mine is bad from laziness. why im not a member, though they get to negotiate the CBA that i do fall under. they're negotations only "got us" the mandatory 3% raise mandated by the contract with the government anyway. congratualtion guys, you got us something already garunteed to us.
the detroit ones are bad because they drive up auto prices. sure, dude's hourly wage may be "normal". but tack on retirement and medical benefits worth >100k a year and you see where it comes from. (for reference, my medical benefits are very generous (premium entirely paid by the company), and only total ~14k a year) total compensation for a guy whose only job is to insert a bolt here and here all day exceeds 130k a year. not bad for a blue collar low skill job. the same guy at a plant outside detroit makes closer to 40-50k a year.
previous place i worked had a "good" union. they emphasized worker safety, made reasonable demands (no 20% pay raises and 5 month vacation a year), usually got what was wanted, and also emphasized worker productivity so that we earned or justified the added expense ("we cant demand these benefits if we have no justification").
He means being forced to join THE union. no choice. even when they fail to represent you and go against your wishes. want to set up your own competing union that better represents you and your fellow workers? TOO BAD.
Theres good unions and theres bad unions jus likes theres good companies and bad factories. and unions had jack all to do with slavery.
they did however have a lot to do with the avg teacher in chicago making >75k a year in salary (more than engineers with masters), and with the average auto worker, even the guy who just tightens the same bolt all day, making >130k a year in total compensation. the guy who tightens two bolts all day gets 160k in compensation.
it may seem like common sense, but that's after years of work creating it, during which some men probably died before it was figured out. Hell we make revisions to tactics after nearly every big engagement. It's called an After Action Report, and everything, every little stinking thing, is written about and analyzed.
And while it may seem common sense to us, it frequently isnt to many combatants around the world. the majority of the taliban and iraqi insurgents have no training whatsoever, and those that do have very little discipline. many many of them emply spray and pray tactics, full of bravado and give em hell, but little thought, little planning, no tactical sensibilities, etc.
Bingo. The persistent AC calling this "evidnece for which people need to hang" doesnt have a clue what he's talking about. He, like most people on/. constantly pointing to it, has no clue what the actual content was.
This is not civil court or criminal court. They do not apply. When you join the military the UCMJ takes precedence. It is not kangaroo court, and Federal law provides no protections to Manning or what he did.
Rightness has nothing to do with the legality. And the legality he falls under is not civilian or crimial court that you know, byt the Uniform Code of Military Justice, a special code of law that applies to all military personel. And what he did was very clearly illegal, regardless of what you think Mr. AC.
And there was no evidence. If you had actually looked at teh leaked stuff, you would know that. But likely you're one of hte same people that just assumes you know what's there, that assumes all the miulitary people are criminals, that Bush was assassinating left and right like I see some/.'ers post, etc.
In short, you dont have a clue what youre talking about, Mr. AC, so all you vitriol can be flushed down the toilet where it belongs.
The UCMJ exists for a reason. And if you know you're history, this isnt the first time that someone voluntarily and knowingly violated an article (or 6) of the UCMJ, knowing it would end their career, even result in prison time, because they felt compelled to. Many time such individuals dont even contest the charges. Usually in the nature of refusing to obey an order, deeming it unlawful, and taking it to courts martial; sometimes the presiding officer's have agreed, and sometimes disagreed.
Manning stepping up and taking responsibility is a good step, and frankly what I would expect him, myself, or any other military servicemember who willingly and knowingly violated the UCMJ.
Honor, courage, comittment, all boil down to integrity.
Unlikely? Maybe. But the mere fact it's a possibility means the EC has outlived itsusefulness, especially since it's purpose no longer exists thanks to modern technology. If we are to retain the (horribly horribly flawed) simple majority system then the EC has got to go.
Think about it. They are giving someone the full blown HIV virus. Modified, but still the HIV virus. You know how people sometimes get sick with teh flu after being given flu shots? Same deal.
Do you really want to be responsible for giving someone, who was healthy before, HIV from your experimental vaccine? So you test its initial or macro scale safety on people who already have HIV.
You're hte one talking about multi-decade conspiracies, and having wars just for training the troops and sating bloodlust and telling me what I really meant by putting words in my, when I point out and applaude when a President does more than just order troops in by trying to be diplomatic?
But I'm the one full of BS, Mr Coward?
The only thing you got right is that being diplomatic very often comes down to making a threat. What else would you do? Bribe them? That never works or lasts. And making a diplomatic threat still better than just going over and nuking everything in sight at first provocation. So I'm sorry, but you're a fool.
I am not unaware of it, but that has absolutely nothing to do with blaming the wrong people. Seriously? Explain to me that. Explain it. Explain how the fact the C hates A is relevant to the situation that B killed A and B != C.
Simple. You can't. It is irrelevent. That would be like being attacked by someone backed by the Afghanistan government, but invading Iraq instead.........Is that you Mr Rumsefeld?
The MB is not our worst enemy. They are certainly no worse than Ghadafi or Mubarak (sp). We see a sudden outbreak of people wanting their rights, to overthrow oppressive dictators, and we're supposed to prefer the dictators who kill and trample over their own people? Again, much like the other racist, you are lumping everyone over there into the "terrorist" category, even when they do not warrent it. Your brush is too big.
They are far from useless. The reason its rarely seen is because they simply are rare. They dont have a lot of these things in thei possession. The ones they have largely dont work (if they did they would use them). And they largely dont ahve the resources to make them work. But they are far from "useless against modern combat platforms". There's nothing special about "modern platforms" that makes them immune to Stingers and the like. In fact they still date from the same time period other than the stealth craft. the difference is we have the capability maintain ours, they did not.
And you did you really just say (further down) the RPG is more useful than a SAM? Wow. I wish people would stop talking about military kit who have no clue.
Yes because there were no other conflicts or factions within afghanistan following the soviet withdrawal. It went straight in an unbroken line from the 80s to the 90s, from mujahadeen to BAM Taliban, just like that.
Except thats wrong. In fact, the taliban emerged as a force that fought against and replaced the mujahideen rulers.
So yet another history fail who doesnt know what he's talking about. Lot of them in this thread.
Or perhaps you should read what he posted here and in other places? And do you even know the definition of the word? I've railed against overuse of the word before. But even I'm pretty sure labeling all middle easterners terrorists qualifies.
AC's strawman of redirection is hit for 9000 critical damage. AC loses.
copying a config file is too hard?
and another woefully ignorant flamebait post from girlsintraining
there are bad unions and good ones.

i dont see how you get to mandate that non members pay anything. if im not part of the union and have no interest in it, i aint paying jack schmitt.
He means being forced to join THE union. no choice. even when they fail to represent you and go against your wishes. want to set up your own competing union that better represents you and your fellow workers? TOO BAD.
That's what he means. Dont be so ignorant Mr AC.

cause no one wants to live in those states.
cause no one living there goes to college, or gets a masters in things like physics or engineering.
city slicker moron flamebait troll gets modded insightful. shocking.
Here it comes!

He didnt just publish an inflammatory article about a government.
He illegally obtained classified documents.
He committed espionage.
Big difference.
This was covered before, and you were proven wrong then too.
Espionage is an internationally recognized crime.
His citizenship is irrelevant.
He got played and turned just like a classic textbook espionage case. Only in this case it wasnt a agent (of a government) doing it, but wikileaks.
