    For a mere $8.5B, wouldn't Apple have run up the bidding to protect themselves?

    Probably because if Apple eliminated FaceTime tomorrow, it wouldn't barely make a dent in iPhone sales.

    The only prediction you make that seems likely is that WinPhone gets a skype client.

    Still, you could be right. Stranger/dumber things have happened before.

    Oh, wait, it always was about the eyeballs. I remember when you could attract an audience with factual reporting and insightful analysis, based on investigation and jornalistic reporting. Now it's mostly sensationalism and opinion made up like news.

    You are probably (mis)remembering a mythical golden age of the mid 20th century. Prior to that you had plenty of yellow journalism. After that... Well, we see where we are today. The fact of the matter is that 2011 is not the anomaly; 1950 was.

    So, they disabled the preference, but didn't remove it completely? I'm sorry, but that's just not responsible. There are some things which the user should have to do without help. If he wants to open the file, fine, but automatically opening random files that have been downloaded isn't something that should be allowed, with or without the users approval.

    Wait, so this week's problem with Macs is that they offer too much control?

    In some cases it's even easier that typing on a regular keyboard, like when you need to enter something specific such as a number.
