The question shouldn't be about staying alive, it should be about people with genetic defects procreating. I think it's pretty obvious we're diluting our gene pool with a bunch of shit (the rise of nearsightedness seems like an obvious one to me), a huge number of diseases have their symptoms treated without the problem being fixed. When these people have kids.. they're just perpetuating the decline.
You're looking at it the wrong way round. You're seeing the species as important. It isn't. What's important is the genes. More correctly the survival of genes which individuals carry. Every human on the planet is in direct competition with every other human in the race to spread the genes they carry. It's up to the individual to make sure that their genes make it to the next generation, successful ones do, unsuccessful ones don't. The species is just a collection of individuals who's genes are relatively similar.
A banking tld would solve the problem. All owners would have to be official banks or similar financial organisations. The registrars would charge a little bit extra and check that the applicants really are banks.
You're not interested in making money yourself but want broadband? Get together with like minded neighbours and start a co-operative. It isn't local/state/federal government so the state isn't competing with commercial organisations. Profits can either be returned to the members or re-invested in updated services.
It's a much better idea to get NK involved, integrated and dependant on trade with the world. Try to build up a wealthy middle class in the country, they're the ones who have their sights set on political power. America can dump it's unwanted excess agricultural capacity there, subsidise businesses who are able to get in to do business.
Increases serotonin levels, and for guys testosterone completely naturally. You start to look good and feel good about yourself. There are a bunch of other beneficial side effects. It seems that the human body is designed to be physically stressed on a regular basis.
So basically what you're saying is that if all you have is 8-tracks you'd be a fool to buy the nicest stereo system in the world.
BTW, I include in the list of crap plasmas and LCDs; Sky's HDTV system when coupled to an HD ready plasma. High definition? Yes, and completely unimpressive, there were still artefacts visible in the picture.
I had a look at some large "HD ready" plasma and LCD screens the other day. The picture quality is shite. I mean really really bad. You can see pixelation, step changes in what should be smooth colour and jagged pictures during high speed sports events. I wouldn't touch any of them with a barge pole and anyone who has bought one is a muppet.
Sell it off to the highest bidder. Some other space agency may well want to take over the maintenance and running of the telescope. Or maybe Google to grab it turn it round and use it to map the earth down to the smallest pebble.
It's in their interest (at the moment) to produce a low number of high value stones. There are only 3 man made diamond manufacturers at the moment and they all have a substantial investment in machines and technology, they have to cover those costs and make a profit, they are also benefiting from DeBeers restriction on the natural stones.
Don't expect diamonds to be cheap for a decade or so as production slowly increases and the supply follows. In the meantime, spread the word about the artificially high price of natural diamonds.
It's because they have to be trusted and you don't trust your company's information to someone on minimum wage. It is BTW, the same reason accountants and lawyers are well paid.
"Therefore it is likely that there will come a time when restricted migration across national borders will be largely regarded as backward, restrictive, and even oppressive."
Unlikely. There are limited resources in any area, as people arrive they are seen to consume those resources at the expense of the indigenous population. There is therefore always going to be resistance to people moving into an area.
The only time when it's possible that the borders will be relaxed is if all of the countries in the world are equally economically developed and peaceful and there's little economic reason for migration.
Spotlight is fine for desktop use and yeah, it's going in the right direction but it doesn't really provide a structure to hold information, you still have to provide a heirarchical structure to put the files into. It's also not a fundamental part of the filesystem which means that support for that way of organising information isn't built into all of the apps.
Most of the boring stuff we do these days is categorising or filing information. We're basically spending much of our time providing information about information, that's where the next killer application is going to be.
Automatically transforming information from one form to another and categorising it with some sort of tagging file system. It would be handy to have various types of fuzzy classifiers to automate it all.

Only if the banks continue to maintain their existing .com domains rather than allowing them to lapse after 3-5 years.
It isn't random at all. You just have to understand a little psychology.
About 6 feet in length, you can hit people twice as many times as with a short stick, plus they can't get anywhere near you.
[shrug] Works for me.

Google's product is adsense and adwords.

If they survive they can be the first stage of the eventual teraforming of mars.
It uses three to four times as much absolute RAM as konqueror, with far more resident and far less shared with other apps.
This seems to be a general problem with gtk/gnome based applications, but how come the Qt/KDE guys are so much more efficient?
p.s. I'm typing this in Konqueror rather than Firefox simply because KDE+Konqueror is faster and lighter than Gnome+Firefox.

That's the traditional thing to do when demand outstrips your ability to supply.

While diamonds, rubies, sapphires are shiny and sparkly opals are far more interesting and beautiful gem stones.

It would make sense that when you sell a product to someone, it's theirs to do with as they wish, but apparently not...

1: This is basically a market research exercise.
