I mean, it's not like the government is spending real money. Most of it's borrowed anyhow. Might as well just buy what we can since the U.S. will default at some point.
Can't repo spaceships, border walls, aircraft carriers. I say buy BIG physical ticket items. LET the chinese try and take em back:)
If they try end to end encryption somebody will invent a "hood" to put over the front of an HDTV to capture it, and within a couple of generations of development I'd bet the resulting copy will look great.
I think it was Jesse Ventura who said something like "the only difference between the Soviets and us is that we have two political parties instead of just one"
Why would they need to do that? Connect a modem to the serial port of the hardware and they can dial in to fix the router.
The only things that can't be outsourced (yet) are stuff that needs physical presence. Who knows, maybe your sysadmin might end up being a walking robot remote controlled by a low paid worker in china.....
There is nothing wrong with science at home IF HE followed all the regs about how you store and dispose of chemicals and hazardous materials. If on the other hand he had stuff there he was not supposed to have, or stored in dangerous ways that are against the law then it's quite acceptable to have the law come in and make things right.
I've seen houses go up in flames because of what people have stored in their garage and basement.
What did governments do before computers? They had PEOPLE who sat at DESKS that used TYPEWRITERS or PAPER and PEN.
If they want to do it, they could. You just sit people down, write checks out by hand and give them to people (obviously recording the checks in a ummm...ledger)
Although people will try to over complicate things, it's a simple of matter of expending more energy than you take in.
How you accomplish that is up to you, but there is no mystery to losing weight. The mystery is finding something that you can keep doing on a regular basis.
The first thing IBM, Google, Microsoft, and a gaggle of companies will do is march right over to congress and say that the earth will implode if this is allowed.
Then they will mention that they may not have money for campaigns, jet trips and dinner engagements.
And..
A bill will work it's way through congress in record time. Gauranteed.
Anything over a 100 lines (and much under) can be incredibly hard to read for non-authors of the code. Especially if depreciated stuff is being used.
It's probably why a LOT of people and biz are going to python instead. Reading it does not make your eyes hurt.
The OS X version of Virtual box does not support (yet) any of the processor specific virtual machine extensions that speed things up considerably.
I guess you have never worked in supercomputing....where Linux is just about what everything runs.

Personally I think I should have equal time to evangelize the Church of flying Spaghetti Monster.

If you have not done anything wrong then you have nothing to hide............
You'd have people dying left and right from steroids and whatever else they could pump into their veins.
Except that you don't see this until your paycheck comes in and it's less than what you agreed to and the employer says "quit and sue me!".
So you do and now...
1. you are out of a job
and
2. Now you have to sue a company while looking for a job.

"When Obama takes office, much of W's shenanigans will end,"
I may be cynical, but I find that statement INCREDIBLY naive.
What makes you think your computer can't be seized at any time or any reason within China?
Not if you are using SELinux that is properly configured, in which case the access controls are set at the level of the applications security context.
Not saying that it's perfect, but it would help and I'm sure that is where most OS's are going to head in the future.

I'd like to google map the place and see what it's like (and what I can see)

It's silly because Al is a Silly person. Period.
It's amazing to see all the super secret agency debunkers posting messages on slashdot to make this guy look like a fool........
In the absence of evidence that there are aliens you can make up any explanation to account for the lack of evidence and be completely credible.
Maybe not, but I posted before you did
Come on.
