Xi reportedly concluded that the best path lay somewhere between these two, with the country needing to decide "which things can be imported but have to be secure and controllable," which tech can be "absorbed for re-innovation," and for "which things we must rely on our own strength and indigenous innovation."
The reason why Yahoo does not fix things is because the company is "dead man walking". They have been trying to get sold to SOMEBODY for years, but since Microsoft refused to buy them years back for a premium nobody seems to want to buy them.
Spending the time, money and resources to fix an email problem is not a high priority for them considering the position the company is in...
They (Disney lawyers) are not stopping because in their eyes the damage has already done (association with Star Wars) and people will associate the event with Star Wars and light sabers no matter WHAT the event is renamed as.
If they were SMART they would buy the event outright. It's a successful marketing vehicle for their franchise! WHY IN h double hockysticks do they not get it?
It makes no sense to have a legislative body (The Senate) that is not proportionally sized according to population. The way it works now, a citizen in Vermont's vote means more to the election of a Senator than a voter in California simply because Vermont has less people than California.
We already have a legislative body that is proportional, the House of Representatives.
The Senate was ALWAYS from the beginning supposed to represent STATE interests. Since the 17th explain to me HOW a state government is supposed to get a Senator to represent STATE government interests when there is NO leverage on the side of state governments to push Senators to represent them?
That's what the 17th amendment did, it tilted Federalism in the direction of the Federal Government so that States basically have no say over what the Federal Government does. Prior to the 17th state legislatures made sure that Senators voted for Supreme court justices that listened to them (states).
The only leverage states have is Article V which they've never successfully used.
If have any interest in the 17th Amendment, and want to cut through all the stupid rumors (like the lie that dozens of senators were never seated prior to the 17th)
It occurred to me that one thing we haven't seen yet (or maybe?) is some sort of malware or Trojan that infects computers to run as exit nodes for TOR.
Imagine how that would affect the overall TOR network.
Linux is not an OS. It never was. You can't download and install "Linux". You download an OS that uses the Linux Kernel (sometimes modified). BIG difference. There can be HUGE differences between OS distributions that use Linux as a Kernel.
Microsoft writes the Kernel to Windows AND the surrounding software that supports the Windows operating system. That's VERY different from the OS community that uses the Linux Kernel, or the OS community that uses the BSD userspace tools and libraries that they want (MacOS, OpenBSD, FreeBSD, NetBSD)
There is a reason Stallman refers to it as GNU/Linux, he is pointing out that Linus and crew are NOT responsible for the stuff surrounding the Kernel, and shouldn't get the praise or be damned for security vulnerabilities in things like standard C libraries, command line shells like BASH, etc.
What this announcement shows, is that players like Roku need to be VERY afraid.
Say all you want about the fact that the new Apple TV specs wise is ho hum (and I'd agree with you), but the fact of the matter is that all those people who are familiar with Xcode development and the IOS APIs now can develop for tvOS.
What that means is that in a VERY short amount of time the number of apps will go from zero to crazy in no time at all. Roku has struggled for a LONG time to get a good set of apps for people to use. There are hardly that many games for Roku (the major ones though like Angry Birds are there) and everything else are screensavers, streaming channels or Church apps (for the most part).
Say what you want about how the Apple TV sucks, the fact that millions of Xcode developers for IOS can develop for it means it will pretty much sink companies like Roku.

"absorbed for re-innovation,"
Sounds like copying to me...

When and if he does die, hopefully he has a clause donating his body to science so we can see the effect of all those pills
You forgot one more obvious but important observation
Predicting the future is hard, and past does not equal future.
Is there any address to send flowers?
When will the funeral be?
Would it technically be called a "keyboard" if it has no keys?
Wikipedia says VxWorks (confirmed..kinda)
It's running on a RAD750 and probably VxWorks.

if you can't afford an extra 2 bucks a month you shouldn't be paying for netflix to begin with.
As one who rides Washington D.C.'s metro rail every day risking death by electrical fire, shooting and/or mugging I feel your pain.
Lack of money, lack of expertise, lack lack lack
I suspect BART and DC's Metro have similar problems (even though the funding sources are a little different)

It's a VERY good paper on the subject.
In order to replicate NASCAR you'd have to replicate the ability to "bump", "rub" and mash into each other without crashing most of the time.
Rotor blade based drones will probably not cut it.

It's MORE than Semantics.

Or get a Google Voice number as your main number and turn on call screening.
They only have a couple of seconds to leave their names and that's it.
Space is just the quasi-emptiness you have to pass through to get somewhere.
Space exploration is NOT about the exploration of space. It's about the exploration of the stuff IN it.
Mars may not be the GREATEST place to go, but it's what is within our reach. Until something better comes along I say go.
Is it? It's been (except for a spike) not so bad over the last 6 months.

Unfortunately China has no concept of being good neighbors to ANYBODY in regards to the environment.
Are they factoring it the power costs of building all those wind farms and the data center?
I'm sure it' s not small.
What it tells me is that no matter how bad your product is, SOMEBODY (evidently a large percentage) will buy it.
Hmm....there's a money making lesson here somewhere (if not for my morals..)
Yes. You can pry my Model M from my cold dead fingers.
Useful as a weapon (heavy). Sound is great at annoying your neighbors, and it FEELS great!
There is no other choice. It's heaven on the fingers...and will annoy your cube neighbor as well! (always a plus!)

That's actually a VERY good point.
We could see MICROSOFT help fund this GPLv2 lawsuit against VMWare since they have a competing product.
Wouldn't that be bizarre.
