My issue is not with the science that reports human activity is warming the planet, it's with the POLITICS surrounding it, and discussions about what should be done.
From what I've read, all of the current initiatives, regulation, etc will not do squat to change the situation in anything under 200 years and even then it's marginal at best. The only real solutions seem to imply (or say rather directly) that world GDP would need to be rolled back significantly. I simply don't see that happening. With all that in mind, it seems like politicians/corporations are using climate change as means to consolidate power.
In general. I'm against concentrating power in government or corporations. It never seems to work out well in the long term when that happens.
I may be naive, but it seems to me the way to save the planet is to develop space and other worlds so that people can leave and take the stress off of the planet. I'm pretty sure we can do that in under 200 years.
I think the developer is on the right track. I'd LOVE to have a workable emulator in the browser that is good. It's not there yet but keep working on it! Good job!
I wonder how much more successful Krebs would be moving his site to a sites.google.com?
Sure, he'd have to deal with the awful feature set there, but I'd like to see anybody DDOS google successfully. I don't think it's actually been done has it?
Just look at the cable card debacle. They purposely underfunded and under engineered support for third party devices with their cable cards.
What do you think will happen with this? I guarantee you there will be "delays" and it will be a bear getting anybody to help you if your app on Roku for comcast does not work right.
Call me cynical, but do you think they will WILLINGLY give up that cable box revenue stream?
Even after they are forced to do so I'd bet they will "roll" the loss of those cable boxes right back into your cable bill. Maybe not all at first, a buck here, a buck there and 5 years later everybody is paying an additional $20 bucks a month. It will be called "Internet HD TV access charge".
FYI...in Gattaca they did not edit DNA. They simply chose from the pool the parents provided (egg and sperm) the ones they wanted to get the characteristics they desired and then did in-vitro fertilization.
Editing DNA is just too creepy for many people to consider it.
BUT.....
Selectively choosing sperm and egg for specific properties from a large pool created by the parents (like what was done in Gattaca) is something I could see done. People would simply see it as taking the randomness out and picking the best characteristics from what they (the parents) contribute.
I guess people were right that when MS buys up a company chances are it might be where that company goes to DIE.
If any product they acquired should be integrated with Skype to compete with Slack it should be Yammer...but I didn't hear a peep about that..
You say it isn't a solution, but the world is FULL of examples where competitors have gotten governments to subsidize an otherwise failing business model. And rather successfully at that.
Look, SIP works. It's just a signaling protocol. Facetime uses SIP even though it's closed to anybody else.
SIP is a standard, everybody could use it. It's not hard to implement. It's well known and well supported.
Just to re-iterate SIP is a SIGNALING PROTOCOL. It has nothing to do with call quality directly. There is no reason why vendors can't implement it. There is also XMPP, but I prefer SIP myself.
"Ultimately, an important factor that may help more thoughtful individuals combat their lower average activity levels is awareness," said McElroy, according to The British Psychological Society. "Awareness of their tendency to be less active, coupled with an awareness of the cost associated with inactivity, more thoughtful people may then choose to become more active throughout the day."
Seems like the correct prescription would be mindfulness meditation.
I ride the D.C. Metro on a daily basis for at least 20 minutes at a time. LTE/3G availability occurs generally when you stop, and barely works if at all in between stops. If I could download..or Hell even CACHE 20 minutes of a show that would help a LOT. I'm not sure why Netflix will not allow it. I'm wondering if it would take having to re-write all their legal contracts with content providers.
If he likes Thunderbird so much, maybe he should sponsor its development with a little bit of that wad of cash in his pocket now that Mozilla.org is looking to jettison Thunderbird to the curve.
He probably would make back in interest on his cash horde the paltry amount that it would take to keep Thunderbird alive and developed..
Come on! I NEED to move around more, not LESS! It's hard enough sitting at computer desk all day in a cubicle. That 40lb box of cat litter provides me with free weight training. Plus Walmart stores are so BIG I can get my steps in.
totally agree. Although having that cash horde is incredibly wasteful (cash depreciates with time) they could EASILY buy their way into it without any fuss.
When you have that kind of cash on hand you can bleed until you get it right or are back on your feet. Just look at IBM in the early 90's.
We are using Skype for Biz with office 365 and I've NEVER been able to get my work Skype for Biz account to ever successfully call my Skype consumer account.
Yea, our company got hit by that too (crashes) it took them a couple of weeks to roll out a fix.
FYI..skype for business is NOT actually "Skype".
It's Lync Re-branded to fool you into thinking that Lync is now as cool as Skype because it's named thus...
IF I was able to receive DTV broadcasts and/or digital radio and be able to record shows to my phone directly I can say I'd probably watch more shows as they would be on my phone ready to watch when on a subway, back seat of car, etc.
Too bad the broadcasters can't convince the smartphone people that is worthwhile...

Libertarians are against Crony Capitalism.
Is not just the corporation's fault. It's government's fault as well. It takes TWO to tango.
Now that you've done your best Don Quixote thing.......do you feel better?
Some of those shots look surprisingly like parts of West Texas with a color filter over the lens.

I want the opposite. Eleven reasons NOT to be excited about technology. It's MUCH more fun delivering doom and gloom than happiness to my co workers.

2001 was also made for Cinemascope, which I'm sure makes those first 15 minutes much more cool than watching those minutes on a small flat screen.

Has any demonstration been done using Linux instead of Windows 10? I don't run Windows on my T420
