    Sorry, no, it's not a moderate typing speed discrepancy, it's a massive discrepancy, a factor of 3 at best and more like 10 in practice.

    And that's what you really need a PC for: to make up numbers.

    So you steal stuff by paying for it?

    His point was that they bought John and now John doesn't contribute anymore. Presumably because he spends all his time on proprietary code.

    I don't know if that's true, but his argument, as framed, is that Apple took FreeBSD's most valuable asset and didn't give back after that.

    If you can believe his resume, he didn't do much (Open Source) coding in the years before he was hired by Apple. Now most of his code can be found at http://opensource.apple.com/

    And yet, after some months, the Raspberry Pi foundation moved manufacturing to the UK -- for the same retail price! (http://www.raspberrypi.org/archives/1925). So why shouldn't Apple be able to do the same thing? Granted, the RP Foundation isn't out to make a huge profit, but still, Apple should be able to source its components and products a little bit more ethically.

    Imagine if Apple shipped iPhones at the same rate as Raspberry Pi.

    Foxconn workers are not a representative sample of the total population of China.

    The suicide rate at Foxconn may very well be above average for people of the age-group, gender balance and socio-economic status Foxconn workers fall into while still being below the nation-wide average.

    According to a paper cited in the relevant wikipedia article "rural suicides outnumber urban suicides by a 3:1 ratio" so we would strongly expect the suicide rate at (urban) Foxconn to be low compared to the nation-wide average even if working conditions are abysmal.

    Well, there have been no reports of suicides at Foxconn for over a year now, so what conclusion do we draw from this fact?

    And the link they reference in that quote (to anther article on their OWN site) says it was vocational interns (16+) and college students (18+). So more accurate would be "16 to 22".

    I don't want to defend the authors, but Foxconn did recently admit that some of it vocational interns were 14 - 16 years old. It was on the BBC, among others.

    Funny thing: Samsung still denies that their Chinese subcontractors employ underage workers (not interns), even after several reports. http://gizmodo.com/5940903/report-worker-abuse-and-underage-employment-at-six-more-samsung-factories

    Yes, sorry, I didn't notice the 2009 Q4 filing date there. Allow me to revise the argument: "not innovative" (I hesitate to write "obvious", since, it's not really that obvious) if a garage tinkerer can arrive at the same conclusion.

    You've brought up a very pertinent point that most people sort of know deep inside but somehow don't wanna to say it out loud ---

      Especially under current patent practices, too many things which are NOT even a bit innovative got patented.

    For example: A rectangle with rounded corner.

    Yeah, especially when others including Samsung had patented a rectangle with rounded corners dozens of times before.

    Or you have no clue about design patents.

    NFC itself is fine, all the published attacks have been against the infrastructure that makes use of it.

    Well you obviously also didn't notice the fact that there's a link in the article discussing the same patent in April 2011.     So will Apple try to licence this technology to other mobile manufacturers, or will it forever remain on the shelf, never attaining sufficient popularity for POS vendors to support it?

    Who cares. It's a patent about a method to passively detect when there is another device nearby (by using sudden changes of measurement of the build in compass) and peering can start using a wireless technology, including NFC. It is not an alternative to NFC.

    I put this in the same category as Apple refusing to adopt other standards, such as USB power. Reinforcing its reputation as an operation that doesn't play well with standards.

    USB3 has charging standards

    Which is 3 months old. Devices supporting it are expected end of the year.

    which allow for much more power.
    I don't think any manufactures have added support for it yet though.

    Profile 1 - 5V @ 2A
    Profile 2 - 5V @ 2A or 12V@1.5A
    Profile 3 - 5V @ 2A or 12V@3A
    Profile 4 - 20V@3A
    Profile 5 - 12V or 20V at 5A (100W).

    I believe the idea around profile 5 is so laptops can drop the custom power connector and use a USB3 port instead.
    It makes things interesting if all laptop USB ports support all power profiles. You could charge one laptop from another and even make a figurative 'energy black hole' by looping the charge back again with another cable.

    All modes need new "PD aware" cables.

    iPhone is made of easily broken glass and have a inferior battery (you can't change it your self)

    Hint: Google "drop test galaxy s3 vs iphone 5" - most of them even have to mention the battery.

    Apple doesn't want you to use desktop computers any more because you're likely to do something besides shop.

    FYI, apps on iOS are more crash prone than Android apps.

    Blasphemy rarely helps with creating a compelling argument. The article you have linked to suggests a gain of 10% in charge time as the reason for choosing an incompatible standard. That is not a significant reason for not accepting the industry standard...and the ethical one.

    Well, thanks for admitting that you are a member of the USB church. It sure explains your almost fanatical devotion to the plug.

    Recently, at AllThingsD, all Eric Schmidt said was "I don’t want to preannounce products, but I can tell you that were we to do that, Apple would have to approve it."

    My guess is they are developing it, but they haven't promised it yet.

    I spent ten minutes trying to get street view to work in the iOS 6 safari browser. No success.

    Then Google must have turned to blocking access from Mobile Safari - take it up with them.
