  1. Where is it? on Emachines 64-bit Athlons Now On Sale · · Score: 4, Interesting

I give up. Looked all over at their website and can't find the T6000 anywhere. Is it such a quiet release that eMachines doesn't want to give any details about it at all?

But of course there's a converter. Here's one right over at Freshmeat called mp32ogg. Seems to work fairly well, too, but since mp3 is lossy, and ogg is lossy, you might lose a little quality. I never noticed anything, though.

If you are Colorado, make sure you are on the Official Do Not Call list. A friend of mine in Colorado signed up for the list in January, and just checked his status after receiving a call that would have been a violation. To his dismay, the status page said he was on the *unofficial* list, and asked if he would like to be on the *official* list, which would then be effective on November first. As this all happened yesterday, he was not happy at having to wait so long when he had already signed up.

For anyone who doesn't know aboutt his, you can use the same url as in the followup (here), and re-enter your info and use the Verify button to check. Would be a good idea to make sure you're on the official list so you really stop getting the calls, and/or really have a case if you get calls again.

I can't say that surprises me too much. Listening to the media (such as it is), I had the feeling that the rioters were just people taking advantage of the protests to do their own bits of pillaging and looting.... sad that that has to happen, maybe the protests would have gone off better if it hadn't been for the few sour apples who had to take it upon themselves to destroy property and stuff....

Of course, on the other side of the coin, it certainly got the protests more noticed! :-)

It was. But that was 6 days ago. Today is the last one until 1-1-3111.

Now, if there were a November 31st, that would count too, but, alas, there is not. So Happy Odd Day everybody!

Does anyone remember where to find upgrade information? There used to be a site that had upgrade info to replace the card in a PalmPilot with that from a PalmIII, but I can't find it anymore. It might be worth it just to play this game....

I tried that, figuring there was SOMETHING in the console that would help. :-) But I couldn't get there! My Cntl key got mapped to 'w', and w-Alt-F2 doesn't work. :-) Thanks for the xmodmap command, I'll have to write that down for the future!

I tried these out, and the Dvorak one worked perfectly. The QWERTY one, however, kept giving me errors about high end codes being out of range. After I deleted them, xmodmap didn't give any errors, but my keyboard was totally trashed! 'a' would give a '2', 'Enter' would give a ''', etc. Coudln't go back to Dvorak either, it wouldn't change. Had to kill X in order to get my keyboard back. So much for the great experiment. :-)

This is true under Netscape 4.08, I think it's the same under the later versions.

Go to Edit->Preferences->Navigator->Smart Browsing and click on the checkbox that says "Enable What's Related". It should be unchecked when you're done. Then just click on "OK" and it should go away.

When I first got Netscape4, one of the first things I did was search through every menu item until I found out how to disable that stupid thing. :-)

I also got rid of the My Netscape button (destinations), Home (home), and Search (search) buttons the same way, replacing "viewSecurity" in the example with the items that are in parentheses. My tool bar looks MUCH nicer now with only 5 icons in it!

P.S. Also added this one: :-)

  13. Stupid Lawsuits on AOL Sues Over "You've Got Male" · · Score: 1

You know, if judges would just stop listening to stupid lawsuits, they'd stop being filed. It's only because they keep getting press, keep getting heard, and keep thinking that the lawsuits make sense, that people, corporations, etc. think they can make such lawsuits and get away with it. Sad thing is, they usually do get away with it. How much damage to AOL is really going to be done by this lady using "You've Got Male"? Most likely, none. They just have to make a point, but lawsuits are really a stupid way to just make a point. The judge should throw the case out without even hearing it, or even punish AOL for making such a lawsuit to discourage these kinds of things in the future.

Yes, there are legitimate times when lawsuits are necessary. This isn't one of them.

Agreed here. I've been using Google for months now, ever since Altavista stopped returning anything of use.
