I don't think individual apps get any access to the fingerprint thing. I think it will only be used for phone unlock, app store, and itunes store.

The touchID will be cool, but iOS 7 is going out to many phone and ipad models that are older, so most people won't get that functionality. I have a 5 so I'm on an upgrade cycle that will make me eligible next year.

I RTFA'ed. The short version seems to be:
    1) Icons and dialogs are "flat" (similar to Windows 7, etc.)
    2) "iOS 7’s animations are the kind that will prompt an 'ooh, neat' upon first use and then a slowly increasing sense of frustration as you begin noticing that trivial tasks take just a bit longer than they used to."
    3) There's more content on the screen when browsing because common toolbars are shorter or disappear when not in use
    4) Safari's new tabs view is cool because it displays content on multiple tabs at once (think looking down from a 3d perspective on the old tab views)

    5) settings page accessible from home screen
    6) full multitasking and better app switcher.
    7) User can turn multitasking off on an app-by-app basis and track cellular usage on an app-by-app basis
    8) revamped camera and photos app
    9) revamped calendar app)
    10) revamped notifications and alerts
    11) all sorts of API improvements, the benefits of which will only become apparent when apps start to implement them right
    12) revamped app updates

That's all I can think of. Don't listen to the haters who say this is about pretty icons.

I'm thinking of getting one of those visa prepaid cards and occasionally putting $$$ on it (using cash, of course). It's one of the few privacy things I can do.

i don't understand this viewpoint. it's like a kneejerk reaction to protect obama or shift blame. so, the govt was doing unconstitutional practice 'A' when he entered office. He had to choose between eliminating 'A' (as would be his job under the constitution) or going balls-in with 'A++'. He chose the latter, and I think he should be impeached for it. This has nothing to do with Bush or Congress, it's an evaluation of his actions.

dude, that's amazing. in the past three weeks you accomplished more than 99.999% of musicians that have ever walked this earth - you left a permanent record of your work!

It would be cool if you included more details of your recording workflow on your youtube page - I'm sure many people would find that interesting and helpful. If you're open to it, you should think of posting the tab as well. Share the love and share the craft - this is how cultures bloom.

I don't know if there are any good social platforms for musicians to share tunes and tips. is this what people do on myspace now? I'm thinking of something by and for musicians specifically, sort of the internet coffeehouse jam session. I think myspace is more for promotion to fans.

    Good luck to your health!

  23. Re:technology vs. quality on How Amateurs Destroyed the Professional Music Business · · Score: 1

Yes, the music biz is not the music scene.

I have an objection, the trend towards more affordable gear started with midi and pcs, so it boomed in the 90s, while the possibility for distribution through internet boomed before 2000. Plenty of time to witness the renaissance you speak of. It is not happening, quality goes down.

this is actually a very insightful point, possibly the most insightful in the whole comment section - if the "democratization of music" is bringing out a renaissance in new artists and sounds, we should have seen the beginning of this renaissance some years ago.

You offer thoughts anecdotally, but this would be a great opportunity for a data driven study to look for these trends. I'll talk to a friend of mine who's an econ professor. he might jump right on this!

no you still don't get it. you're trying to compare two copies of the same song. a CD master of sgt pepper vs. a dubbed tape. this is not the choice to make. what's really happening is people are choosing between mass-produced high quality music which might not be to their taste and a semi-pro / pretty good song by an indie that they love. they're choosing based on musical quality, not technical quality. do you get it now?
