    do you think the employees of the site shouldn't get paid? or shouldn't have aspirations for themselves or their families? maybe you think they should take a vow of poverty to provide you free content that you read when you should be working.

    I think what this conversation is really about is the role of US in international affairs. It's a nationalistic thing - "we invented X! Y is teh bestest nation!" and so countires play tug of war with different accomplishments. I say let's leave politics to the politicians, and keep the facts where they belong!

    It's so hard to evaluate tablets looking at specs. it's such an intimate experience that the only way to buy is one is by trying them out, preferably for an extended period (borrow from friends?).

    would you choose a pair of pants based on features, or would you try one on before you guy it?

    I want this, but I swear I've heard this before and it is rare I've seen anyone pull it off. It is almost always "here is a huge collection of options you are free to do what you want!" or the Apple-like way of "Please select from these sane, but limited options." Both have their advantages, but I just want the best of both worlds.

    best of both worlds? both options limit the plane of limitless muddy choice to two small sets of possibilities. you want to step back into the plane of muddy choices? I don't think you're getting it.

    i'm glad they're fixing it, and i'm glad they took the time to do it right. look at oracle how they're always scrambling to shove out security fixes, without taking time to think broader - maybe there's a larger structural problem that needs a holistic solution?

    as my father said, if you can't afford to do it right, how will you afford to do it twice?

    choose one: 1) situation as it is now or 2) situtation as it may be some point in the future if particulars of a patent are implimented. hmm?

    i'm telling you that as the sitation is right now, dispite your insistace to the contrary and your refusal to see what's plainly visible, there are no barriers to sharing or reselling purchases from the itunes music store. the greatest challenge is finding a marketplace and payment mechanism, which is the exact solution that the patent proposes.

    if you gave me your email address, I could send you any itunes file that I ever bought. there are no barriers. there is no drm. apple is not involved. my understnading from the summary is that the patent is for creating a secondary marketplace where anybody could buy and sell. currently i don't have a marketplace where i could easily sell my songs. perhaps ebay, but i'm not even sure if thats allowed there.

    double-technically, the itunes match service is free for all of your songs purchased from itunes. for $25/yr you can extend it to your entire collection. So for the GP's specific point, dealing with old drm'd tracks from itunes stor, using the free itunes match service you can download new unlocked high bitrate versions of songs you purchased from itunes store earlier.

    Wait - I was always told that if you buy a song on iTunes, it's yours to do with as you please... was that a falsehood?

    when you buy a song on itunes, you download a 256kb aac file with no drm. you are free to do what you please with it. hope this helps.

    Only on music (and only on recently-purchased music; it's not retroactive)....

    using itunes-in-the-cloud it will replace your local music files (even old drm'd ones) with drm-free 256kb files. all for free. hope this helps.

    This approach MAKES A LOT OF SENSE! You have to admit, regardless of your feelings towards apple, this is a step in the direction of breaking down artificial barriers.

    WTF MONEY CODE???? that would have been helpful in the early and mid stages, but once I got to the final stages I never had a problem with money. What's the threshold for megalopolis, like 500k? I think I got to 490k but could not cross the finish line.

    I played the snes version of simcity TO DEATH. Never achieved the megalopolis, but came absurdly close. By the end my taxes were 0% and the entire map was blanketed in green police and fire coverage. I had abandoned all roads and had rail running everywhere. Eventually moved from an industrial economy to a commercial economy, which really helped with pollution.

    i dont' know... office 2007 was 10x better than office 2003. 2010 wasn't that big of an improvement over 2007, but brought some nice features. i'm not sure what they can do with 2013, but I'm curious to find out!

    I think this is a good decision on the part of microsoft. I for one buy a license to use in a virtual machine, and if the licensing stood as it was originally described, once I cut my virtual machine loose I wouldn't be able to install it elsewhere. Still kinda a pain to re-activate it elsewhere, but better than nothing!
