    yeah i get a bit worried about it being last on the port list but i guess the bugs will be ironed out. I'll take a slightly dated version that's stable to a new 'bells and whistles' version any day.

    nice to see they use the ms and sun shock troops to give the prod a good thrashing before linux version though :)

    i know that u can use cli for bcc, delphi but what about jBuilder? does win32 jBuilder allow for command line compiling?

    owl was cool, it (for those who never used it) wrapped up the win32 api in some very nice objects with full inheritance...competition with microsoft killed it off. as for bcc5 i never stopped using 4.52

    What can be worse than a proprietary language owned by a company?

    i think the difference with borland has been that they have been willing to develop langauges for the better good. i remember hacking out code learning pascal in cs101 using borland turbo pascal at college and wathced as the language matured....i left pascal and used 'c' (puffs chest out) but come backl to it when delphi was released. In that time pascal v3.0 morphed into object pascal. The differences are significant both language wise (and tool wise). borland aint no microsoft!

    well i found on the ms site an ocx (spirit.ocx) u can use the following languages (win32) wait for it,
    • visual

    • visual c++
      borland c/c++
      borland delphi

    i checked out a number of sites (including the one above) info's okay but plzzzz, when you create a site take into consideration contrast. If you have everything on a black background and don't take into account the vLink, text and link colors the sites are diffucult to read (except possibly in the dark....

    i went thru a couple of sites on the webring and they are pretty much the same...good into but difficult to read. if yr going to copy a format try (black text on white) or (black text on yellow) but please not (nearly black text on black)

    ms, has just been released in '.au' and looking at the price it's going to be hard to justify the price to SHMBO ... but i reckon i could get the young bloke to do a crash course in programming (9MO) and see what happens...

    how many other languages aside fm perl can u use to prog the rcx that are open source? i know there's the mob at 'http://www.multimania.com/legos/doc/index.html' with their .....LOGOS... -0.1.7 is released under Mozilla Public License. Original code © 1998-1999 by Markus L. Noga. but is their any open source c/c++,java libraries that can be used under gnu?

    this poll reminds me of steve balmer talking about m$ and the time they had with ibm & os2 (revenge of the nerds, m.kringley) where the ibm suits ranting about KLOC (thousand lines of code) and how they would pay m$ per KLOC

    it aint about the amount of lines of code u generate. programming is more akin to writing hiku(sp) than say telephone books, so those in the high KLOC's are either very fast programmers writing very big systems or telephone book coders featuring up their next release software...sound familiar?

    it's a fair comment to say that ms is good for business. every time a new product is in beta, then sold on the shelf new features are added, and developers have to upgrade their skills/understanding....hence more money is spent hiring/training programmers, purchasing software and licences...but to say open source is only good for word processors etc?

    i think he means, 'linux sucks, i dont make money and i loose as the supplier of software'..

    I'd like 2 know what tools yr using...(win CE sdk)....one of the advantages of palm, development wise is the availability of free/high quality development tools (as well as a lot of commercial ones). I was reading in a visual bastard journal ( VBPJ, AUG,98,V8 #9)the other day about the inability of MS to create a VB dev environment for development....

    another advantage of palm developers is they are also advanced enough to programme in c and handle gcc, gdb etc...betcha MS is kinking themselves at the moment 'cause there's a lot of VB programmers out there in win32 land a heck of a lot more than there is VC++ :)

    impressed with the depth/details (parts,suppliers etc.) on the website there mike. wrt to the HUD, have u checked out if there's any way u could canabilise mil surplus HUDS?

    i guess lightness and durability of the HUD come with extra bucks..is there any way to grab the image (i couldn't find descriptions of how u capture the optics, private eye?) fm the machine using 'optic fibre' and projecting this on the glasses?

    getting the interface right is the 'spit 'n polish' of the project, getting to this level is an achievement yr average '/.'ers should be applauding!

    far from it...i use m$ at work 'cause business pay for it..but my choice of os weapons is u*ix 'cause it's free. i'd use freeBsd for hm use but it's not my choice (not that it's inferior..gotta love that picoBSD)...

    as for running more os's, the more the merrier ,diversity rules ...who knows M$ might go open source fix all their bugs and give their os for free :)

    so take that back you swine!

    this is a good idea and worth looking at. but it does not take into account of human nature (the lazyness inside us all). to many features and to much user work equates to user laziness...better to let a machine do the grunt work and only allow score choices on comments where they are obviously a 'me-too'...

    self moderation is desirable but can be manipulated...minimal adjustments should be allowable for 'less enlightened' comments.

    that the 'qwerty' kbd was designed to make u type slower!..back when the original type-writer was designed (what was it again..remington?) the fan layout of the hammers jammed if the typist typed fast. so the 'qwerty' layout was chosen as default...never tried dvorak..where can i get a kbd with it ?
    the feedback loop of adoption meant that the qwert kbd has reigned ever since...sorta like MS on the desktop :)

    forget the issue, (after SEP'1997). One of the most interesting thing I remember about the article I remember was digging holes for the cable going thru SE Asia. They laid the cable down something like 2 metres of rock for entire lengths of islands...why, 'cause everyone and their dog has a 'back-hoe' :)

    the division of M$ happens every once with adjustments that occur as a result of management reacting. This is to be expected. Remember the M$ turn-around wrt the web in '95?

Re-organisation of M$ simply re-focuses the company wrt the market. sell-offs or re-organisations wont stop the monopoly..anyone remember ibm?

    it's obvious that what the linux community needs is a 'software god/programmer' they can worship. M$ has bill: too microsoft, bill is the 'programming-god' incarnate. His job is to communicate a clear vision of microsoft's objectives. The worshipers follow the vision. How they acheive it is left to the followers (this scenario worked wonders in WWII with a certain bad guy)

    it seems we need someone who represents the forces of good to provide a clear vision and focus point to further the l*nux cause .....but we dont need an anakan s. (turns to the darkside) type
