"I haven't seen spindles of CDRs for $3 anywhere. The closest I have seen are those scary ones at CompUSA that NOBODY should be buying. The no-brand ones shrinkwrapped without a spindle through the hole, that sit on dusty shelves for weeks."
Why should nobody be buying them? Do they have a shorter shelf life than other CDR's?
I might concede that they have a higher initial failure rate, but that just means you sometimes have do two burns instead of one. Unless the initial failure rate is very high, they're still cheaper than the ones whose packaging you don't have to dust.
"Seeing that you used strcpy() as an example, I can certainly understand why you don't like lint. For those of us who know better than to use such dangerous functions, lint and -Wall are our annoying but useful friends."
char buf[80]; strcpy(buf, "john");
Dangerous? strcpy() is perfectly okay if you are aware in advance of the length of the source string.
If you're not registered for this site, don't bother to just to read this thread. It basically states that some person discovered a slight amount of oil on the outside of one of his drives after it failed and another person noted that it *could* be the bearings. There were no other comments of substance.
Having spent some time in Europe, it's become obvious to me that Europeans trust their governments too much. Sales taxes hover around 20%, income taxes are over 50%, and forget about anything like a Bill of Rights or due process. It's no wonder Europe is still in an economic recession.
Earlier today I crossed the Canadian border (into lower Ontario which uses the 519 area code) and checked out this site and I must say I'm very impressed. I suggested that they could pick up two more US affiliates (UPN and PAX) by setting up remote receivers in Windsor (across the Detroit R. from Detroit).
I'd also like to note that the G2 player is available for Linux at the following site:
All of my passwords are completely random strings. I'm a touch typist, so I learn how my most commonly used passwords feel. Then I throw away the paper they're written on.
Typically you'll find strict laws like this, often bordering on the absurd, in Southeastern states like Virginia. Trouble is, Bible thumping locals in turn elect Bible thumping politicians to rule over them. This is all fine and dandy by me until they start to think they have any juris- diction over people living in saner areas of the country.
Media One at the University of Michigan isn't too bad. They even offer one-way cable modem to residential subscribers in Ann Arbor. Of course Media One was just acquired by Comcast, one of the worst cable companies I've ever used.
Rob, you should probably start keeping your editorials to yourself. The one about not reading books anymore and only reading web pages also ranks up there as one of your worst.

A bit early for April Fool's Day?
The only news groups that seem to be overrun by spam are the alt.binaries.pictures.* groups. Apparently, CmdrTaco doesn't read comp.*. ;-)
"So as not to embarass any employees with the same name Apple has not revealed the employee's name as at now." So his name must be John Smith, right?

The picture is more reasonable if you select the double size option.

Think of the 0 Ohm chip resistor as a jumper. Of
course even jumpers have a non-zero resistance,
but this value is small enough to be neglected.
