no one spends $500 on a phone. They get contracts and pay $0 down. Lotta people can afford the upfront costs of a contract and can't afford expensive bluetooth headphones not when they have so many wired headphones that are easier to use and cheaper for little to no disadvantage.

Third is a subscription fee. The site gets their chunk of change, and the rest goes to the content producers.

Dude you're crazy if you think any subscription fee service will compare to YouTube. There's literally no way. First off a massive segment of the YouTube consuming audience doesn't even have the means to pay for a subscription. All the pre-teens and babies consuming YouTube this is not an audience that gets excited about paying a subscription. I concede the first two ideas are perfectly plausible but there's no way the YouTube replacement has a subscription fee.

Treat people like adults and let people choose what they want to watch, advertise on, and make for videos.

The result of this? Is that advertisers are lazy. Easier to just pull out. Maybe if YouTube had considered the problem of monetizing racist and stupid videos before they could have fixed it some other way but the advertisers got burned. Their ads were found on videos that look bad. And as the saying goes one bitten twice shy. The advertisers are super skittish about putting stuff on YouTube now and arguably rightfully so considering the stuff their top YouTubers do.Of course YouTube was going to go heavy handed with their new advertising protocol they had to in order to keep any ads ON their platform

Not to mention the huge amount of work it would require to do any more detailed video categorization. They can't get comments cleaned up, they can't get recommendations cleaned up. No way they're gonna get any sort of advertisement Piccadilly circus organization scheme cleaned up.

Except YouTube/Google and Facebook are the internet. They pretty much decide what everyone in the US sees and hears. If google/YouTube and Facebook remove everything you ever post you pretty much do not exist because it is hard to exist outside of those platforms.

Then these should face more rigorous government regulation. Either Facebook/YouTube is the internet in which case it has no business being completely under the control or private corporations or it's just a really successful usage of the internet in which case you have no ethical legal or moral right to belong to it.

You can't stump for both sides.

What will it take for YouTube to just delete his channel. The CAUCASITY of this dude after losing deal after deal after deal (I didn't even know YouTube had deals like that for Tubers) for literally showing dead bodies hanging in a forest to then come back and taser dead rats? It's sick and the fact that his channel wasn't permanently and irrevocably suspended just shows YouTube (and I can't remember if it's Alphabet's or Google's) doesn't care. It's YouTube just nuke this loser and get on. You don't have to try to explain it to advertisers anymore. You don't have to explain it to the community anymore it's just done. It's not like no one is gonna fill that spot. He literally has a brother. There's 1001 of these YouTubers most of them I imagine don't go around flying to Japan just to disrespect the country and don't mutilate the dead bodies of animals. Why is Logar Paul being treated with such kid gloves. He's a multi-millionaire. His followers aren't loyal they're 12. Let him post videos on Daily Motion or something. Just get him off YouTube.

The memo's so short, its interesting they choose not to reprint it instead of trying to add their spin to it.

From reading the actual memo, it's clear there's nothing in it that reveals anything detrimental to national security. On the contrary, it reveals top FBI officials acting in a way that is clearly not designed to protect US persons rights.

Hopefully this will be the start of a process leading to some much needed reforms of FISA.

If the memo is short enough to reprint it's probably missing 20 pages. These things are usually 30-40 pages long. The idea that a 4 page version suddenly contradicts all the other data suggests deep cherry picking.

I have NEVER encountered a site that requires you disable adblock. I have been to maybe two sites that asked politely to turn it off, and did nothing to keep you out if you didn't.

There are news sites that shade articles until you white list. Just a giant unremovable popup. Some I can remove by inspecting and removing the offending div layer but some change the site itself so it's not hidden beneath an immovable layer.. it IS the immovable layer. I don't encounter those sites often to be fair.

  9. Like DemoLiter3, I just watch YouTube through youtube-dl or mpv with youtube-dl hook.

oh good. There are a few channels I need to watch videos from time to time but don't want to give revenue to like when I'm trying to show someone the moron who went to Japan. I've been downloading the videos and watching 'em that way. I still feel gross but I don't have to worry about having contributed to the problem.

  10. I watch it. It made even less sense than Pitch Perfect. I had to fill in a LOT of gaps because nothing is said just implied at you. But I still enjoyed it. I don't think critics are out of touch with modern audiences. I think modern audiences are morons who only watch Transforms and Pirates of the Caribbean over and over again. Critics have an edge up in that they are strongly compelled to watch lot of varities of movies. Audiences are not. I got a screener for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri and the trailer looked just ok. But I went because not going has apparently put me on a blacklist because I so rarely get screening invites anymore. I had a great time. They didn't really address race but they didn't ignore it and as that's one of my biggest beefs that along with very strong acting and writing lead to a movie experience so satisfying I hadn't had it since Get Out.

If the movies I watched were at that quality rather than every Transformers movie I might be harsh on Bright too. And for what it's worth just because a critic says a movie is bad doesn't mean it won't sell doesn't mean people won't watch it. Bright is so bad apparently there's a featurette video to explain all the backstory they just imply at you. That's bad writing right there. I haven't been that confused since I read Gynocracy having no idea it was part of a series of books just being super annoyed they kept hardcore referencing things that made no sense.

No we found new and innovative ways to use corn like feeding it to grass eating animals we eat and turning into liquid and drinking it. When AI runs thing that doesn't mean we'll have free time. It'll just mean we have more stuff. Machines have ALREADY made us more efficient that doesn't make people work less. It just makes the top of the pyramid even richer. We all still work just as hard just different and we push even more wealth up the ladder. By that logic if we give rich people more money they'll spend it and that wealth will tricky back down.
