    KDE might be butt-ugly, or at least non-impressive, but you can keep it running for weeks. I remember having to start Gnome a lot, but those borderless transparent eterms almost made up for it....

    Yeah, thank God those guys in Waco were well-armed, and thus able to defend themselves against a tyrannical government. No, wait, that was in an alternate universe. In *this* universe, the government brought in a damned army and killed just about everybody in the compound.

    Your little handguns aren't going to do a bit of good, up against a determined and committed tyranny. Hey, I support private gun ownership, but let's keep some perspective here. Let's worry about keeping the Hitleroids out of power, instead of thinking about how we're gonna bust a cap in them.

    I don't think it matters what CPU they use, as long as they manage to do something Amigariffic with it. That's going to be the hard part, seeing as the cheeziest box out there can do multimedia the original Amigas could only dream of.

    Why is this flamebait? It seems pretty correct to me, and I'm running 2.3.15 24-7 on my home machine. Netscape is showing its age in a big way, Mozilla is far from catching up, IE5 works fine (dare I say that on /.?) KFM has some holes, but like cameldrv says, it's stable and going somewhere.

    So, where's the flamebait?

    Moderators, a post doesn't become flamebait or a troll just because you don't agree with it. If it's on-topic and contains valid opinions and/or information, try to hold back on the downmoderating.

    Black Leadership has always reminded me of Labor Leadership (I've never been black, but I've been in a union). They seem to be awfully happy to increase their own income at the expense of the constituency they claim to represent, while accomplishing little or nothing.

    Racism adequately explains why the average US black person makes less money than the average US white person. However, if you compare internet usage between white people and black people with comparable income, and there is a significant discrepancy, then racism does not explain the difference. I'd like to see the stats on that, myself.

    Does this surprise anyone? It's been years since I was involved in the use of such material, but Sagan sure looked like a stoner (or fellow ex-stoner) to me....

    As for the movie theaters, I know in Miami as late as the '80's you could pick up an excellent second-hand buzz.

    I liked the Chairman Mao/Billy G comparison; it seems valid to me. They both had that face of inscrutability: you could look at both of them, and have no idea what was going on in that head, other than the fact that you probably weren't going to like it. Also, your writing style is among the best I've ever seen here (simmer down, Katz, you're pretty darned good, too!). I get frustrated at the Noise of the Masses, sometimes, but discussions like this are the reason I keep coming back. Thanks again!

    ...and they'll get moderated up, and you'll get moderated down, again. Hey, LOOK!, you're already down to zero!

    This moderation does suck, in a big way, but hey, it's not my site, it's andover.net's. Back In The Day, pre-moderation, the jerks would often try to drown out the conversation, but now they have moderation powers. It helps their cause a lot. I have my threshold set at zero, and I find myself reading negative-index posts more and more....

    No, in the Olde Days, Microsoft was one of the few companies that actually seemed to care about the PC market. Of course, those days are long past, and Microsoft is all about monstrous profits, and screw turning out good products....
