    Whether it is useful depends upon your usage. Maybe you'll be wanting to access the server on your desktop also from your laptop.

    With Linux, the client and server could be the same box. You could choose whether to install services or whether to use someone else's server.

    The CDC Cyber computers had a wide operator's display with a desk top in front. Just above desk level on the left was the Big Red Button. Just behind where many operators put the log book in which various activities were recorded. Eventually a cover was put over the Button after too many log books got pushed into the Button.

    By "create their own maps" they mean they'll drop build a sphere and drop all the unwanted stuff inside, making the sphere larger when necessary. Eventually it will have its own landscape inside and enclose the Sun in the process.

    He did go back in time, but he couldn't warn himself because his cellphone didn't work. So he had to invent the shopping mall so there would be a place where he could buy a new cellphone. And he forgot something in the meantime.

    Remember that a lot of erosion has taken place. The desert floor is not the crater floor. What may be crater floor is on top of cliffs several hundred feet high. Is Black Rock Range higher than the crater floor, or could it have formed due to eroding less than the surrounding area? Or is the crater so old that tectonic folding has compressed it east-west (making it elliptical and raising Black Rock Range)? Invite a geologist to dig around.

    Yes, I often do use a web browser as a script GUI. A web browser changes a few HTML text strings into a pretty display.
