  2. Potato? on Debian GNU/Linux 2.1 Released · · Score: 1

    Next one is 'Sid'.

  3. Lignux on Help Beat on Our New Server · · Score: 1

I've liked Lignux (or LiGNUx or liGNUx) but GLinux is good. We really need a way to avoid the kernel/whole system confusion and both 'Linux' (nonono _DEBIAN_ 2.1, _LINUX_ 2.2!) and GNU/Linux (easy and catchy - not) is bad. Why didn't RMS go for one of the 'GliNUx' or 'LiGNUx'?

  4. Immortality? on Wired on RMS · · Score: 1

There is also a lot of 'software' created during life (such as memories and knowledge) that makes up the one that call yourself me. So genes is not enough.

But I do hope and think that by the time I'm getting old there is a way to preserve that information (like freezing in some smart way) and later run it (me) on an artificial brain in the body of my choice.

  5. Why serial number at all? on Pentium III serial # soft-switchable · · Score: 1

I don't understand what use they will have for these numbers. The ones I read here is

    1. e-commerse
There would still be ordinary software sending the number wouldn't it? Then it can easily be faked and would be useless for reliably identifying someone.

    2. Prevent illegal copying.
Most protected software gets cracked within days of release. Why not programs using this number?

So, what is the real difference between this and intel sending pIII buyers a paper with a number and the text "Please read this nuber to anyone who asks for it"?

  6. I like Debian, BUT... on Debian 2.1 on March 2 · · Score: 1

"samba 2.0 has been released over a month ago and there is still no dpackage for it."

    Err... yes there is.

If you have missed it, Debian has a very nice package search.

  7. Danes are cool. If only they could ban kiddy porn! on Light Traveling at 38 Miles an Hour · · Score: 1

For some strange reason too many people don't see the difference between

    1. Raping children, recording it, trying to squeese out as much money as possible.

    2. Beeing a pedophile and arousing yourself with sexual images of children, not produced using real children.

For me, people can have whatever strange sexual ideas they like, as long as they don't hurt people by, say, raping them.

So, what should be outlawed is of course not 'child porn' (wich can, for example, be drawn or computer animated) but raping or otherwise hurting children.

(Unlike here in Sweden where we have a new law since 1999 outlawing even the owning of any kind of child porn. Oh, they are so stupid! And over half the 'liberal' party voted for it (twice) and the largest 'conservative' voted against it. Just shows (again) that all they care of is votes/money/power and that ideologies and morals definetly comes in second place. Sigh.)

  8. _President_'s Day??? on Windows Refund Day update · · Score: 1

Well, I don't know if this is what it sounds like but if:

Is this really a holiday about a damn politician? A live and even a currently ruling one???

Wow, I can see them try something like that here (Sweden). A day for Göran Persson hahahaha, he wouldn't dare to set his foot in the country for 30 years, and I wouldn't want to be them the next elections...

  9. Saying ///.. on Beware of the Slashdot Effect · · Score: 1

  12. Another Buggy Release on Linux 2.2.1 · · Score: 1

No, it takes Microsoft months to admit there are bugs, more months to investigate them, and then they decide it's more profitable to add cute animations instead of fixing them, and then they charge for it and call it Win 98.
