We are talking about the C64 not the Pet. The C64 had better sound, and hardware sprites. The AppleII did have faster drives, slots, and a CP/M option. I liked both machines but the C64 was much easier to write games for.
I have cable. I love Wheeler Dealer on DIY, and I watch a good amount of animation. Frankly I really miss news. CNN used to be a way to find out what is going on. Now it is all talking heads. It is really terrible that almost everybody has lost the ability to know what are facts and what is opinion. I used to like the Daily Show until he invited a right to lifer on. My opinion on abortion is in the middle and is likely to tick both sides off. I think it should be legal but treated like any other medical procedure. If your under 18 you must get your parents permission. How ever this gentleman wrote a book about why he felt abortion was wrong. Stewart was freaking foaming at the mouth claiming that this guy was pro rape and implied not allowing a woman to get an abortion was the same as committing rape! The author of the book was polite and well spoken. At that point I realized that Stewart was also just a talking head. He really was no different that Rush except that I tended to agree with him more. That made him all the more dangerous. It is sad because I really did enjoy him. It was like the last of my innocence leaving.
"I call BS anyway. There are only 50, is it too much to have some schmoe simply look the damned tax up on a sheet of paper? WTF?" It isn't. Each county and even city can and does have different sales tax. In the county I live in the rate is 6.5% in the county north of where I live it is 7% In the state any amount over 5000 is taxed at 6% multiply buy.... Then you have to send the money to each county, city, and state......... Then you have tax exempt numbers and different items can be taxed at different rates and they some places have tax holidays...... If it was only 50 states rates and they only changed once a year it would be simple. Oh I forgot that they can change at any time.
The real problem is that it wouldn't be so bad if it was just state by state. It really does get down to the county level and sometimes even down to the town. So suppose I work in one county and live in another. If I order something online does my home county or my work county get the money? Suppose I order it from my cell phone when I am in a different state? Okay you could just say that I pay the tax where it is delivered? Suppose I guy a game on Steam while I am on trip? Frankly it is just a HUGE mess.
They had a working system on Hawaii a few years ago. I just like the idea because it seems so elegant. Of course you then have to worry about the effect of the nutrient up welling you would get with it. But it really is such a cool idea.
I didn't say that I know that it would have an impact but so many things that we never imagined would have an effect have. Cities change weather patterns, aircraft contrails "not the wacko chemtrails", the farm practices that caused the dust bowl, and the example I gave of Dams. A few windmills here and there will have no effect. What happens if we start extracting mega watts of energy? I wonder because I think nobody else has questioned it.
Yes and no. Just how many idiots bring up Chernobyl on Slashdot when talking about US, EU, or Japanese nuclear power plants? They are just as wrong. Or people that are convinced that Bill Gates is the most evil person on earth? Or people that think vaccines cause autism? Or that think that anybody that goes to church is stupid? Or the people that protest when NASA launches anything that uses an RTG? Or the people that thought that Bush was a new Hitler? Or the people that think that Obama is the Anti-Christ?
Let me go back in time for you since I am old. Back before we had 200 channels on TV and the Internet most people got their news from one of three networks and or the news paper. The news coverage was limited but they where actually pretty careful to report facts or report nothing at all. A lot of people grew up trusting that if it was on TV that it was based in fact. The downside is that you where limited in what facts you could get without a lot of effort. Now we have the Internet and 200 channels of TV. Now a person can find out a huge amount of facts but there is no gatekeeper. With that vast resource of facts comes an even bigger flood of opinion, ego, and fantasy all pretending to be facts. The problem is that not one of us knows everything and each of us can be fooled by a trusted source that is wrong. It is the worst kind of ego that looks at these poor people and writes them off as stupid. They have simply put their trust in the wrong source and way to many of us look at that movie and the other crap about 2012 and don't take the time to say, "It is fiction". It is a mistake that everybody will make at least once in their life. For most of us it will end up being a minor mistake that is soon forgotten but for others it can a terrible error. So stop calling people names and do something that helps.
I didn't forget it. Symbian does have a large market share bit I predict it will fad much as Palm OS did. Nokia looks like it is shifting to Linux and away from Symbian. I am going out on a completely unsupported limb with my next opinion but here it is. I think Symbian, RIMs Blackberry OS, and WinMo are going to become at best small players in the smart phone market. Just like BeOS and AmigaOS they will have die hard fans but they will end up failing long term. RIM might survive because of it's history in the Enterprise space but other phones will become just as good email devices as the Blackberry. Android will become the Windows of the Smartphone world. It will be what everybody uses because it is cheap and you can get it on a lot of devices. The iPhone will be the iPhone. Palm is interesting. There hardware is great and the OS is as good or better than the iPhones. The problem is the SDK is crippled. It really is terribly limited. It is easy to make simple applications but it just falls on it's face with anything complex. WebOS is in need of a great SDK. If it had one I think it could be a world beater. The wild cards are Nokia and Microsoft. Nokia makes great hardware and has interesting but quirky software. The N900 looks great except that it has a resistive touch screen. Maemo is interesting but it isn't as pretty and easy to use as WebOS or the iPhones OS yet. Will it get the developers and the apps? Will it be available on a large range of devices? Windows Mobile 7 really is a make or break for Microsoft in the phone market. WinMo 6.5 is a huge yawn. Only the fan boys care. Microsoft doesn't make it's own hardware so it depends on other companies to make "halo" devices. That is the problem. There isn't a single big player that is betting the farm on WinMo. HTC, Samsung, and LG are all doing Android phones as well as WinMo now. The best WinMo phone is the HTC HDII. When you read reviews on Endgadet and other sites they all say the same thing. It would be great if it had Android on it. Guess what? Odds are that you will see it with Android very soon. If the Android version sells more than the WinMo then I doubt that you will see any more WinMo Halo devices from HTC. Then you have Motorola. They used to do WinMo but not any more. They are putting their effort into Android and the new Clik and Droid look great and I think they are going to sell like hot cakes. Microsoft will have to knock it out of the ball park with WM7 or became at best an also ran. The thing is that WM7 is a year away. I honestly wonder if anybody can make a Mobile OS that good. My opinon is that Microsoft would have to make the hardware so they can make a perfect Halo device and I just do not see that happening. Of course everything I said was pure opinon. I could be completely wrong.
1 Where have not been any new Uranium mines opened in many years because of the low demand and price. In fact a lot of uranium mines have closed for that very reason. 2. We have not used much of the stockpiled Plutonium of which there is a a good amount. 3. We have a lot of un reprocessed nuclear fuel which contains a lot of usable fuel. 4. We are not using breeder reactors on a large scale which will greatly increase the supply of nuclear fuel. Peak Uranium will happen but we also can use Thorium as a fuel and even peak Thorium might happen but with breeder reactors and fuel reprocessing we should have at least a century or two of nuclear fuel to get us to workable fusion and solar. Personally I am a big fan of OTEC as well as nuclear. Wind I worry about the environmental impact of extracting that much energy out of the weather system. I know a lot of people dismiss that but then a lot of people used to think of Hydroelectric dams as the perfect clean source of energy but look at the impact they have.
Nope this framework is for mobile devices and the 360. Microsoft is really dieing in the mobile space right now. WinMo 6.5 Still doesn't have native support capacitive touch screens and the Mobile world is on fire with Android and of course the iPhone. HTC, LG, and Samsung are all developing or have released Android phones. Palm and Motorola are now dropping WinMo and going with WebOS and Android. This is one space where Microsoft is at best an also ran and really is dropping in the race for mind share.
I just took a fast look and of the 20 top websites Google owns 7 of them. As you go down the list how many of the others would be willing to risk getting out of the Google index? How many already use Google Ads? Yea a million dollars seems like a lot of money but I would bet that it is not worth it for say the 100 top sites to drop Google.
Nice. So you want mandatory identification of those that you do not think correctly.... That is so enlightened and open minded of you. I mean what could possible go wrong with that idea?
It also could be an errata that the Atom has that the some other Intel CPUs don't. The reason that I feel that it may be an unintentional act is because it was in a patch. If Apple really wanted to kill Atom netbooks why wait for a patch? The latest version of MacOS/X isn't that old and they could have put that into the release version. My guess is that when they built the patch it broke on Atoms and they choose to not fix it because they don't sell any PCs that use Atoms. Last I checked MacOS/X doesn't work on AMD or VIA cpus and they are also Intel compatible. I would guess that Apple just got lucky.
That is 250K SLOC. SLOC stands for Significant lines of code. Heck I have seen applications that rival that. Multics was small and looks pretty light. To bad it was impossible to have written it in c instead of PL/1. Had it been in c it might still be around and useful. Multics predates c BTW so it couldn't have been written in c. It could have been ported maybe but by then we had Unix.
That and they like what Multics offered but didn't have the hardware to support it. Of course the Current version of Linux or BSD is probably more "bloated" then the last version of Multics.
Not exactly. I have been programing for a long time. Way back when the PII came out our application blew up. We used Borland Pascal and there was an issue with the CRT.o unit that blew up on the Intel PII. At the OS level the Atom is not 100% identical with the Core2Duo, P4, i7, or AMD line. It is possible that their is a bug that only happens on the Atom and Apple didn't test for it because they do not support the Atom or plan on supporting the Atom with this OS. You think that they did this to be a pain but to be honest if they where going to do this then why not break all hackintoshs and not just netbooks? They may have done it intentionally or it could just be a side effect that they didn't test for and frankly don't need to test for. What I am saying that I can not say why it happened or what exactly did happen. But then nobody outside of Apple can know for sure. But since Apple never officially supported any none Apple hardware it seems funny that people are saying that they officially stopped supporting Atom netbooks.
I don't think that OS/X ever had official atom support to start with. The interesting question is this caused by intent or because Apple didn't test the update on an Atom. Of course they have no reason to test the update on an Atom because they do not sell a single computer that uses the Atom.
Not really. The people that love Beck thinks he speaks for them and reenforces their world view sometimes with the truth and sometimes not. The people that hate Beck feel feel that he challenges their world view which he does. Sometimes with the truth and sometimes not. Those that love Beck on convinced that he is always telling the truth and those that hate him are convinced that he is is never telling the truth. You can swap Beck for Moore and it works the same. Both sides really are annoying as heck and both pretty dang foolish. What is worse both are sure they are the sane ones while both are as you put it bat-shit insane. The reason that both are insane is because they care way too much about what a talking head on a screen says.
While my views differ a bit from yours. I tend to agree. The problem is the arrogance on both sides that is every where. I know people that think I am extremely liberal. I know liberals that think I am extremely conservative. I am think I am probably right where I need to be. There is no problem with people having right or left views. The problem is the bad manners and polarization that is happening.
An awesome tool gets results. This gets no positive results so it isn't an awesome tool. I suggest that before you start looking down on others for faulty thinking that you check your own critical thinking skills. Parody can be funny and if well done can cause change. This was pretty tasteless and not well done at all if the goal was to inform. If the goal was self aggrandizement then it was very effective. I don't watch Beck or any talking head at all. Frankly most of the people that follow Beck and those that hate Beck seem to be just different sides of the same coin. Kid gloves? Yes I think people really should start treating each other with kid gloves. Maybe instead of venom and ridicule you respect and discussion was offered then both sides could learn and become more enlightened. Their is an old saying that a wise man can learn from a fool and fool can learn from no one. I would say that just from what you have written that you are not currently part of the solution.
PS if you want Beck off the air STOP talking about him or watching him. If you really know he is so bad then you must spend a lot of time watching him. If you are so sure his wrong and have spent no time watching him yourself you are speaking completely out of ignorance and arrogance. As I said I don't know if he is good or bad because he is one of many people spouting political opinion I listen to none of them because I can think for myself.
iPhone users also have the right. iPod touch users even more so since there is no network/carrier issues involved.
We are talking about the C64 not the Pet.
The C64 had better sound, and hardware sprites. The AppleII did have faster drives, slots, and a CP/M option.
I liked both machines but the C64 was much easier to write games for.
Actually most maybe but almost all netbooks have a single core CPU. So yes I would say that most modern PCs have one or two CPUs.
I have cable. I love Wheeler Dealer on DIY, and I watch a good amount of animation.
Frankly I really miss news. CNN used to be a way to find out what is going on. Now it is all talking heads.
