  1. Re:Impossible!!! on Why Digital Medical Records Are No Panacea · · Score: 1

I was in the Hospital two years ago because of some simple mistakes the doctors made and that I made.
What we both thought was the flu wasn't. I had a terrible case of pneumonia. The clinic gave me my chest xrays on a DVD to give the hospital ER. Well the ER couldn't read them. They had my chart but since I wasn't having chest pains they made me wait.
11 hours later a doctor finally saw me and freaked out.
I ended up with a CAT scan and they had to give me a drug that would cause my kidneys to shut down if I was given a drug that I was currently on within 48 hours.
Well I ended up in the hospital for a week but managed not to go in to ICU.
I was in really bad shape but I tired to be a good patient. Then the nurse tried to give me that drug too soon. I simply told her that was an error and I wouldn't take it. I always ask what they are giving me. The nurse was sort of taken back and said she would check with my doctor. She came back and told me that I was correct and that there was an error in the system.
I don't know if digital records will help. Maybe if there where some good standards and if everybody has the ability to use the data it will.
But I have to worry about what happens when people are rushed and when isn't an ER staff rushed? I was lucky and paid attention.

The latest versions? Not the last time I checked.
"Lots of games (hundreds!) are in apt. Some of them are even good. If you want to run a windows shooter, wine works some of the time, and the commercial variant Cedega makes things even easier."
Some are good most are not. Some games will work under Wine but not the ones I want.
Wine works for some things but it sure isn't an answer it is a band aid. Linux doesn't need a ton of apps it needs a few key apps. It also needs an easy way to "sell" apps. I know that is considered by some high treason but it is the truth. I keep saying this time and time again but it is true. A Linux app store where people can create software and people can find it would really help Linux and the Distros that supported it. It could bring in revenue to pay programmers to improve Linux. It would also offer a choice. If you want to play for a closed source program then you can. If you don't you don't have to. If you want to write a FOSS program you can if you want to sell you little game for $.99 you can as well.
It would also give vendors a way to sell programs like TurboTax, QuickBooks, and Photoshop Elements if they wanted too.

First of all even a 10 MP is good enough for some very large prints and is more than big enough for most monitors.
Second 32MP with crappy optics will still give you crappy pictures. Optics are not driven by Moore's law.
What hopefully will happen is that senors speed, color, and low light performance will increase. Probably will not happen since way too many people are too dumb to see past the MP rating.

Also yes good enough will always creep up. The thing is right now most PCs are a lot more than good enough. Also a lot of PCs are not used in homes at all. Office PCs are a huge market and most of them run Office and a few light apps that of a form and database nature.

Interesting. I see it as a willing enslavement. The government could only use those tools if they work. They will only work if people willingly partake. So I see it as a personal choice.
The goal for controlling people is selfishness. If all that matters to you is your personal happiness your are easier to control. Without somebody that you love then all you need to worry about is you. With no family then the future becomes less of and issue since you will not be there to be part of it. No religion so no reason to do good outside of good for yourself.
At best a person may be motivated by the survival of the species but that is a much weaker drive than the survival of you own off spring.
Once your happiness is that matters to you then yes you are easy to control because any threat to your personal happiness carries a more weight than anything else. Most people are then left with no reason to rock the boat.
Of course there will always be a few individuals that would still not follow but they will be very few and far apart.
