Okay buddy. I am not a big fan of ecco nuts but... Algae gets it's carbon from the air. It is carbon neutral. Hydrogen as a fuel is a mess. It is hard to store. Even liquid hydrogen has a lot less energy per cubic foot than jet fuel or gasoline. Tank size is an issue in just about all forms of transport. Also hydrogen really does some nasty stuff to many metals, It is really hard to keep from leaking, and as you pointed out it isn't an energy source. I don't think cheap transport is going to go away anytime soon. We will just have to find new ways to make it cheap.
I don't know if it is victim less crime. Altering someones picture without there permission probably should be illegal. Some 16 year old finds a modded picture of them when they where 10 doing something very gross could cause at least embarrassment if not other issues. It could also lead to someone going to jail for something they didn't do. Like the kids parents or a babysitter. Is this law a good one? I don't know yet I have not looked into enough yet. I have seen Via cpu/motherboard combos on newegg for under $50. Really cheap and low power. The motherboard for the GPC that Walmart was selling also runs about $50.
NewEgg or ZipZoomFly have motherboards, CPUs, Drives, and memory. But the big question is why update? What is wrong with the current server? I am sure you could saturate that DSL line with the server you have so why upgrade? Maybe just upgrade the disk? Or maybe more memory.
Your other option is to watch Geeks.com. Every now and then they have cheap refurbished servers.

Well just for some more in site the clergy in our church is the flock and the flock is the clergy. I have only been a member for eight years so I have only had a few Bishops. One was an engineer for a biomedical firm. He designed joint replacement implants. The next one was an firefighter, and one after that worked for Florida Power and Light. The current one is a retired engineer that worked for Pratt and Whitney. We don't have paid clergy. As far as being Bishop you are called to that. Nobody that should be Bishop wants to be Bishop. As to the secrecy that is really limited to what happens in the temple. It isn't really secret. We consider it sacred. We do not even talk about it to each other outside of the temple out of respect for it. If you walked in the simple truth is you would probably find it very boring and frankly dull. To me it brings a wonderful feeling of inner peace. As to 10,000 people that went. They where not sent. In hundreds of Wards around the country a call went out. We are going to help on these days. If you can go bring your tent and tools to the church. Our little ward has about 200 active members. About 20 people went. My doctor wouldn't give me the OK to go:( As to missionary work. It really is a wonderful thing. We do not get that many converts. Maybe two or three will join in a good year. The Missionary program is great for the people that serve. Young men and woman go and serve people they don't even know. 19 year old boys spend two years without out distractions. My wife served a Spanish speaking mission in Southern California, I have friends that have served in Korea, Canada, Chile, France, and Las Vegas. The mission has changed each of their lives for the better. If you ask the people that they taught and joined I bet they would say that it changed their life for the better. I am sure that some don't but then they leave the church which they are free to do. I would say that less than one in three members actually are active in my ward and I think that is about average. Also if you choose to leave you are not shunned. We don't think that treating anyone poorly is very Christ like. Not to sayt that it never happens. We are only human and sometimes people act poorly. But it isn't church doctrine.
That is one of the strengths of Java, there are so many libraries that getting a good application out the door is pretty dang fast. I think C# is much the same. As for the JVM. It should be swapped out to VM if it is not being used and the ram is needed. So it hanging around isn't that big of a deal on a modern OS. Last time I checked that was changed. I believe that Bishops are now instructed that it is between the husband and wife. I could be wrong but even under the old manual it is just a recommendation. If you get a vasectomy that is really up to you. To be honest I am a member and I have not been a Bishop. I know several of them in my ward. Most wards will have several members that have been bishop so this isn't some secret. That book isn't a big secret and everything listed was stuff I knew except one. I didn't know that the church would allow someone that had a sex change be baptized. I feel that is a good thing. As far these ideas being backward or strange? Well some of our ideas are rather old. Have you ever used Java? I do all the time. Try out Eclipse.org, Netbeans, or Jedit sometime. They work really well on both Linux and Windows. I find Java to be a good development system. It even works just fine on the desktop if you write good Java code. The real problem that java had was applet abuse. Applets are really a great solution to a lot of problems. The problem was when people start to use them for things like Hover buttons and other useless stuff that now is often written in flash.. The junk also gives flash a bad name. C#? To be honest I have not tried it. It may be good but the current versions of Java are really very nice to work with.

They hype about "normal" members not seeing it is just that hype. Just about every "normal" member has seen that and other confidential handbook you can imagine. Some will leave and work someplace else and then go back. Some will stay and become teachers or start there own companies. The thing is that more educated people should make the whole world better. It will probably make some African nations better. But as they say on Long Island. It can't hurt.
1. Hire the FOSS programmers that are already working on the driver. 2. Give the full docs, benefits, a big pay check. 3. Send them to all the FOSS conferences. 4. Give the drivers away for free. Not only must you provide specks but you must write the driver as well to make the FOSS community happy.

Yes I have thought about setting up a media PC but then I would have to set up an NAS and then I would want to move over to GigaE. Once I did that I would want to get an IPod Touch and write a WiFi based Universal remote program for it.... It is just more productive to grab the DVD.
Well just how many times do you watch a movie? That is one of the things I never could get. I know people that collect movies. They have a netflix account and as soon as they show up they make a copy. How much free time do people have to watch movies or is just the thought of having them? But right now you can store a few hundred movies a moderate sized HD. What will you store when you have many TB of storage. And of course we have the old slashdot joke about the porn collection. But back to your lazy part. I guess I am too lazy to rip and store a few hundred or even a few dozen DVDs. I will just grab one from the box and go.
No file system likes a power failure. Bet a UPS that will shut down the PC. They are cheap. And if you care about that data make a backup and even better run a raid.
Remember EVERY HARD DRIVE IS GOING TO FAIL SOMEDAY.
But EXT4 because really useful when you have many terabytes of disk storage. With just one or two EXT3 is probably good enough. Now when we have ten TB drives.... Good grief people Yea just keep a few thousand TV shows on your desktop.

In the states the vast majority of missionaries are not service missionaries. There are primary job is to teach new members and to find people that want to learn. Even then they are required to do many hours a week of service to the community. My wife on her mission worked at a food bank as a translator, an elementary school as a teacher's aid, and the Santa Barbara Institute for the Blind.
The LDS church has many aid programs. Some are just for members. There is a continuing education program for missionaries that are from poor countries. The church provides loans for them to learn trades so they can improve there lives after there mission. We also have a church Welfair system that helps members in need. That is funded by our fast offings. Every member that is physically capable fasts one Sunday a month and then gives the money that they would spend on food as a fast offering.
Outside of those programs the church has LDS Philanthropies which is the charitiey arm of the church.
Yes some programs are just for members. But when it comes to thinks like food, shealter, and medical care as far as I know we give freely to those in need without condition.
