    My current phone is almost 2 years old and the battery is just fine.
    I have to say that this is just DUMB. Sorry Apple but you don't understand the cell phone market.
    1. High end phone users often keep an extra battery to swap out.
    2. Many phones offer an extended life battery.
    Cell phone batteries need to be end user swappable.
    I really had high hope for the Iphone but this combined with the closed development environment makes me think they just didn't do enough research. Of course I could be wrong. I never thought that Apple would move to Intel.

    That would be bad.
    For one thing Novell does contribute a good bit of code that most to things like X and like it or not Mono.
    I know some people don't like the Mono project but things like Beagle, Banshee, and F-Spot are very popular.
    SAX which I think is about the best X configuration program around is also GPL. More distro's should use it.
    How much code has Suse/Novell put into Linux? My guess is a lot. Then you have Novell as one of the heroes in the SCO case or has everybody forgotten that?
    I wish people would STOP trying to use software to enforce their political and or philosophical views.
    Bottom line is you can't do it since Novell has contributed a LOT of code to Linux. They are part of the community. Not only that but the GPL so far doesn't allow for this kind of stupidity.
    Next thing you know people will want to restrict FOSS users to just Communist Pacifist Methodists!
    Got to love it. Welcome to GPL 4.
    If you distribute this software you must
    1. Distrubt the source code for the software.
    2. Allow the users of the software to modify the software to better suit their needs.
    3. Allow the users of the software to redistrube the software freely.
    4. Must always wear the robes of the church of RMS.
    5. Must spit when saying the names Microsoft and Bill Gates.
    6. Must vote for the political canidates that RMS feels are not evil.

    Nope but then 8+ core systems are not cheap systems. You really don't need one to read your email, play games, or surf the web.
    Okay if you are running Vista and outlook then maybe you do :)

    An AMD 8 core system with four duel core chips will beat an Intel 8 core system with two quad core cpus.
    When AMD ships quad core chips things could get very interesting.
    Simple truth is that AMDs new X2 3800s really seem to be a great CPU for 95% of the market. It is cheap, fast enough, and very low power.

    Yea and then we can and clause that if they do anything evil you can revoke the license! That would be great no more Nazi web sites using Perl and running on Linux servers! And then we can stop the ACLU from using Firebird because they support the Nazis right to use FOSS! And then we can kick the republicans off FOSS because they support the war on Terror. And then we can kick the French off FOSS for blowing up the Rainbow Warrior. And then we can kick the Democrats off FOSS for supporting the DMCA....
    Great plan I love it but only if I am the one to decide who is good and who is evil...
    In other words I really think this is a bad idea.

    Okay so you will save on average 2.11% on a fill up.
    I drive a small car and a fill up costs me about $36 and I use about a tank a week. So it would save me about 70 cents a week give or take. Lest just say $25 a year. Humm $25 x say 50 million cars located in the south and south west works out to what? Around 1.25 BILLION DOLLARS A YEAR!!!!!
    Even if this is wildly optimistic cut it in half and you will see that the oil companies are making an extra 750 MILLION dollars.
    Not chump change by my standards.
    Also notice that in Canada where it benefits the oil companies they do have temperature monitoring systems on the pumps. I really don't see much happening from this except a big class action law suit where the law firm if they win will make a few hundred million dollars and everybody with a car gets a check for 3 cents.

    Well for one I don't think Intel is dominating right now.
    In the 8 or more core server market AMD is still the better choice.
    On the desktop AMDs X2 3800s are a great choice for about 95% of the market.
    Where Intel really is dominating is the Laptop market. That is an extremely important market that AMD just can not seem to do well in.
    As to wanting AMD to fail. Good greif I hope not. If Intel didn't have AMD we would still have P4s and be paying through the noise for them!

    Funny but I have found Applets underrated and over-utilized!
    I think the HUGE number of trivial Applets "Hover buttons" ruined the reputation of Java.
    Things like VNC show the real power of applets. Too bad they where so rare.

    It is just FUD. Linux offers you options for your GUI at every price point from free to expensive. GTK is free and LGPL isn't a big problem for commercial software people unless you modify your GTK lib.
    Windows is a huge mess as anyone that has worked with it knows.
    I can not comment on Mac since I don't code for it.
    I other words it is the same old "Linux sucks because..."
    Now here is an interesting question. Are the "Free widgets" in Microsoft and Mac OSx really free?
    The end user is paying for them just not the developer.

    Radar systems in the 50s didn't use color phosphors. It would have been white or maybe green. First like first factual error. All data from that point on is in doubt and it is nothing but text. That is no evidence.

    Again bad data. Air traffic control radar at that time wasn't doplar radar. The only way you could get a speed would be with a ruler! That is right you measured the distance between blips with a ruler.

    The meteors in the sky they reported seeing. I would guess where those very F-94s that your story says where launched to take a look at the mystery blips.
    The F-94 was the first production planes with an afterburner. Guess what they would look like from a distance. Notice that in my earlier post I specifically mentioned the F-94 as the cause of a lot of UFO reports. Nothing here makes me think that it was a space craft more likely a classifed test by SAC of some ECM gear around Langley messed up the radar and then people mistaking the the F-94s for UFOs.

    Nothing in the way of proof.

    "a) The asteroid will hit us at any second." Asteroids have hit us. And will continue to. I never heard any scientists say a big one will hit to tomorrow. Want proof that they do hit the earth? I suggest a trip to meteor crater.
    "b) We're real close on nuclear fusion." We have nuclear fusion. We just haven't passes break even plus enough of a surplus to make it practical. This is a large long term project.
    "c) We'll have nuclear power in everything from planes and ships to cars." We have it in ships and space craft. Yes I remember it seeing nuclear power cars models. BTW these where not scientists these where engineers. We do have nuclear powered cars just plug your electric car into a grid with a reactor. Bingo.
    "d) A cure for cancer is right around the corner." I have never heard this from any scientist but the rate for Cancer survival has gone up ALOT in the last 50 years.
    "e) We've mastered bacteriological illnesses and we're real close to conquering the virus." Between vaccines and antibiotics we have done dang well.

    h) Global warming will cause more hurricanes. "I have heard it would cause less as well"

    What you and just about everybody else don't get is that good science doesn't give you fast and easy answers. It can not because it mist FIND the answers. If you want fast answers just keep looking to alternative medicine. You will find someone that will channel Lord Whathellgivemeyourmoney the 5000 year shaman and tell you to get your aura aligned.

    That small business program is really nice. BTW just one suggestion. How about letting people "develop" with the GPL version and pay for the the commercial version for the release. The current restrictions are at best unenforceable. My company paid for the licenses because it just wasn't worth the risk to us and the cost was low enough.

    Then Use GTK and consider it your standard GUI layer. It is really that simple. QT is really the best solution for multi-platform. GTK is a very good took kit.

    Well for the Windows tool kit I think you get what you pay for. QT is much nicer than MFC.

    We feel that the time QT saves more than pays for the software.
    As to "the little guy" I would say it all depends on what you consider little. My company isn't Microsoft but it isn't two guys in a basement.

    Get back to me when there is a FOSS CAD program that is as good as Solidworks. Heck get back to me when there is one as good as TurboCad.
    Sorry but that product model is live and well for many segments that FOSS just doesn't work for. There isn't on solution for every problem.
    PS I develop under Linux using FOSS tools. There are some that are very good.

    No QT is free if your software is free.
    It only costs if you charge for your software.
    Frankly the price starts out at 6600 for Mac, Windows, and Linux for the first developer I think. Not all that expensive for a such a great tool.

    It shouldn't be. The solution is really simple
    Qt if you are going to GPL your code and want to code in C++
    Qt if you don't want to GPL your code and code in C++ just pay Trolltech for the none free version.
    GTK if you want to code in C or C# GPL or not since you can use it under LGPL.
    GNUStep if you really want to use Objective C and don't mind being different.

    I mix Qt and GTK apps at will on my Linux desktop. For many applications your choice between GTK and QT really doesn't matter. Okay I hate GTKs file dialog Qts is a lot better IMHO but even that isn't a really big issue. I use Eclipse CDT which uses SWT-GTK for it's interface on Suse 10.1 running KDE. No big problem.

    The lack of a standard windowing tool kit just isn't a big deal. Frankly I suggest just going with QT and then you can make your code run on Windows, Mac and Linux with very little effort at least as far as the UI goes.

    But you don't get what I am saying. I really doubt the reports. I have heard people make reports that sound almost identical about Pitts Specials. These reports are at best vague to down right flimsy. There are about a million other explanations.
    In the 50s the ADC would practice intercepts on airliners at night. An F-86D or F-94 Starfire would intercept the airliner from behind. They would then fire up their afterburner and pull ahead and above the airliner. Without fail the pilots would report a strange light that would fly away at an unbelievable speed. I promise you that if you saw a modern fighter at night with out it's lights on you would think it was other worldly.
    1. People really suck an measuring speed and distance of flying objects the farther and faster the worse they are.

    Hate to tell you but the X-1 was evaluated as a rocket interceptor along the lines of the Me163.
    Sorry but I am very good at identifying aircraft. I have seen all the pictures and junk on the web and in books. Not ONE would I call proof. The worst proof was a TV show that took some drawings from Inca or Aztec ruins and made model airplanes from them and flew them.
    I can show you more than one flying snoopy dog house, witch on a broom, and lawnmower. The models they built where modified and way over powered.

    I have seen no proof of UFOs visiting the Earth. What I have seen is a lot of really fuzzy pictures and fakes.

    1. It is already forked it is called webkit http://webkit.org/
    2. If KHTML moved to LGPL3 then it would loose the benefits of the developers working on webkit. It is a sword that cuts both ways.
    3. As many FOSS project have proven a small team can do a lot of good work. Apple could carry webkit all on it's own for a good long while.

    Why.
    If movie theaters wanted to do it they could do it a lot cheaper. just coat the walls with hardware cloth or chicken wire and ground it. You could put wall board or even the sound damping cloth they already use over it. Cover the ceiling as well and ground the metal doors as well and your done. They could do it now with little effort. And yes it would work for EMP unless you had anything plugged in to a power line :)

    Yes they where more dangerous to the Germans than to the Allies that is for sure. As I said I am not even saying that is what happened just that I find it far more likely than an interstellar space craft crashing. Maybe it was a 263 then. The USSR found one of those and test flew it.
    Or it really was a balloon.

    So the US only got one? Don't you find that odd. The Germans built a lot of them. The UK also had one but it crashed before it could be tested under power.
    Seems just so odd that the US would only have found one. There where at least a hundred made and most of those where not shot down. Some did explode or got strafed.

    Heck I am not even saying it happened since I have the same amount of hard evidence that the UFO people have. I am just saying it is just a lot more likely than a spacecraft.

    How can you steal code? The code is still there after all. Kind of like stealing Music or Movies.

    Interesting do you have to notify people that the code is available? What if you make changes to the library and try and contribute them back but they get declined?
    All interesting wiggle ways to get around the GPL.
