Everything about this is a fucking joke. A company that SELLS stuff, is getting a guy who IMAGINES stuff, to try and convince us that we NEED to know what our animals are telling us.
I know when my cats are hungry. I know when they want affection, and I know when to just leave them alone. It's really not that hard. Did you know humans tend to have the same behaviors?! Go figure! Sometimes you can understand things without words. I know! Crazy!
I certainly don't need to know about how they start planning assassinations every time I'm not home on time to fill up those bowls of theirs.
While I completely agree that the level of skill demonstrated by the average developer is not up to par with what it may have been some time ago (I'm fairly new in the sector, with some 5 years experience, but I see the difference in the experienced folks alone), every tech job does not consist of 100% solving hard programming-related issues.
If you're the technical lead in a software company then yes, you would likely be a good fit for the job. But the juniors working under you (and sometimes seniors, but not the ambitious kinds) don't need to know "how a processor works on basic principles" if they just DON'T need to know that to get the job done. When they do face this kind of problem they will either, A) Figure it out and be well on their way to being your replacement when you retire, or B) Work it out as a group, projects are usually a team effort after all.
That these things are in a black box is good because it allows the smarter people to delegate the more menial tasks to juniors, who will either just do it and shut up, or get sick of doing it and improve themselves so they're given harder problems.
and someone (a body of people, an organization, what have you) figures out how to seize complete control of them is when the world takes a sharp turn into something nobody really wants. I don't even think this is doomsday-talk either, we're naturally progressing in this direction, have been for some time now. Our paranoia is going to drive us into oblivion if we don't shift our collective mentality soon......as if THAT'S going to happen!:)
Sure. You still haven't explained to me how that isn't natural. Just because we're doing it, doesn't mean it's not natural, because we're part of nature. Let me guess, it wasn't "natural" for this to happen either? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
If we're not filling the atmosphere with "a deadly gas", something else will, eventually. We're not special, just stupid. Maybe they mean "Extinctions caused by reasons outside our control." sure, but we weren't even around back then, so that's just plain obvious.
You make it law that anything spoken cannot be used to prosecute you. Let them gather whatever evidence/information they want, but they cannot prosecute you unless an action is made.
Is this perfect? No. But without it they'll throw us in jail just for saying you want to "Kill X for doing Y" out of shear anger, as most of us have done at some point in our lives but don't actually mean to do. And this is one of the more obvious cases I can think of. God knows how far it would span if we were stripped of our rights down to that level.
We need something, because barring any world-ending (our world) event, it's coming very soon.
That's because the majority of people don't think in those terms, and in the software development world, are usually the ones who copy/paste a ton of functionality, are never able to provide feedback on implementations, and are pretty much useless unless given exact specs, sitting there doing nothing until you do. These people are, however, quite good at browsing, I'll give them that.
As for the "reading" that TFS mentions, I think the poster can be classified as what I just mentioned. If you can't read FOR_EACH(obj in array) as "an iteration", and you're professionally coding, there's something wrong. Yet I see this shit every day with people who make well over my salary, and I don't consider myself an excellent coder by any means.
In the end I guess it really just boils down to, "is the job done?". The rest is us being elitists.
When people act like humans are so much different than other animals, it blows my mind. Yes we're poisoned from birth with all this "want want want" bullshit. But naturally we are no different than other animals, and instinctively try to do the same. Those who don't, we know would die off within a week of "shit hitting the fan", but to flat out dump on the entire species as you are is just fucking stupid.
From TFS : "The previous five extinctions were caused by natural phenomena."
Why are we acting like human's aren't natural? Yes it might be our fault that this is happening, but we as a species are a "natural phenomena". We're not some extra-dimensional beings or anything special. We're as much a part of nature as nature is a part of us. We just choose to abuse and ruin it for our own means. Not to say any other species that reached our level of intellect wouldn't naturally end up doing the same.
But insulting the people who actively find the game fun and insulting a long term franchise as a fad really just says more about you than it does about Pokemon or its players.
I called it a fad. If that insults you, get help. I played Pokemon as a kid too, you know. I don't hate it.
Why are you trying to justify a product to someone who clearly wants none of it? Half my comment was meant to be in bad taste with an obviously overblown statement, and you attacked it seriously. You must be trolling.
What's wrong with planning stuff? I don't know about other folks but it sure as hell helps me get through tough/dreary times when I know I have something fun coming up.
People cancel yeah, it happens, and is understandable. This article talks of people I wouldn't keep around me very long though, and you know what they say, good friends are hard to find.
I can think of better ways to go out, meet people, join teams, etc. Maybe not to you, but I would assume to the majority of folks this is the case.
User count also doesn't determine if something is a nostalgic fad, don't try to justify this product please. It's Pokemon. Of course it's a fucking fad. I could put my shit in a Pokeball and sell it for $1000 to some kid telling them it's a Grimer.
You seem to have described the common music hipster. I will let you know, Sir, however cliche it might be, that many of us youngings don't subscribe to this way of life.
Ok so I read what you said since I sort just immediately dismissed you.
Yes you can live off the land. There are ways around pretty much every restriction you pointed out. Nobody is going to care if you shoot a big mammal in northern Alaska, heck, nobody will probably even know you're there.
So that being said, you sound like I used to be in that you see the bullshit, you call it out, and do nothing about it. Now I see the bullshit, barely care to call it out unless I'm feeling ranty (tends to happen, you know), and what I've done about it is education on how to distance myself from it all, should I one day decide to fuck off into the woodly nothingness and rely on nothing but myself. Will I end up dead? Yeah probably. Who cares?
I think that makes sense. Friday afternoons aren't always the most insightful moments.

That's a very elitist thing to say.

You just need to feed it enough protons. Trust me, it won't move when its belly's full.
That's the thing I don't get..
Take it from me, it's not worth your mental effort.
Let me go out and buy a copy right now to make you feel better.
Well if this guy says so, what doubts could you possibly have left?
Awesome, I always prefer happy endings.
It almost feels like they're trying to turn us on eachother when in fact we have a natural inclination to look out for eachother.
Because the only thing we show on the news is people getting mugged. People are affected by that shit, why is that surprising?
Damn that's really cool! Who knew you could look stuff up on the internet!

Just stop it.

The hookers and illegal drug companies need to make a living too!

It was a nostalgic fad. The game in question sucked.
