I dig the switches. Granted, thermal controls can kick up or lower the RPMs of really loud fans automatically, but there are certainly occasions when you may want to override them for some reason or another. Manual controls are also nice for those who have lighted and windowed cases. No reasonot run the neon during the day, but at night it can cast a perfect amount of light onto the keyboard.
That one got me laughing too... I was quite impressed with that detail - but you have to wonder whether SETI was running under the directive of the "Commercial Folks" or the tech setting up the computers.
Ummm.. Perhaps you are referring to Mini-ATX or Micro-ATX; the ATX form factor is not new - and the several computer's in house all seem to at least 5 PCI slots..
Nic
Sound card
Scsi controller or raid card
Video Card (but any decent x86 board ships with an AGP slot (unless the integrated video stole it)
on me, but only after about 3 years of continuous service (pretty good for inexpensive consumer hardware anymore). The only solution worth my time? Another HighPoint controller. Anything else will make you cry and wished you just shelled out a few bucks in the first place.
Unless I misunderstand - your system *is* broken without the controller anyways right? So why not just replace it?
Keep in mind that you *expect* a product to work, not to fail. If a product works as billed, you may be happy, but the likelyhood of posting all over the web about it isnt as great as it is if you buy something and it fails miserably. Even a fantastic product with a very low failure rate will generate more complaints than praise.
The big bonus for going the projector route is the flexibility of the image size. You may pay $5000 for a nice projector, but it will be a long time before you can buy a 180" plasma display, let alone for a mere 5k!
The parent was advocating/implying that watercooling is ready for the masses. However I highly doubt that Mom and Pop are able to configure MoboMon, or even leave it alone if it came preconfigured. Water cooling is not yet ready for integration by OEMs. That's the point. And I didn't even have to call you a name. Kinda like the fact that Linux really isn't ready for the consumer desktop, but it's good for those who *can* use it.
This is why watercooling is stupid. The contingent of people using it right now are telling everyone that it's more reliable and much better than aircooling. They might as well be linux zealots spouting off about how ready linux is for the desktop. The simple fact is that at this point in time, watercooling is only viable and reliable on a comsumre PC if you can babysit your system and are familiar enough with the internal components to do something when one begins to fail. Mom and Pop don't need it. When you water cool, you are using high quality parts no? Why not just pop off the OEM video card fan and use a high quality aftermarket one. You'll experience about the same failure rate as watercooling then. If the fan on your video card dies, only your video board dies. If the wterpump dies in a water-cooled setup - Everything Dies.
Sure. As long as you don't want to make or receive calls when inside a building.
Cell phones are a commodity item now anyways. What do you think you're gonna have to pay for an "all network" phone? A metric ass load thats what. And don't forget the golden rule of multifunction devices: They'll do most things OK, but won't do any one thing *good*. Why not just purchase separate phones?
You have heard about the concept of personal responsibility, right?
Yup. I know where the money goes. And I don't think Disney is inherently evil, but like I said, and argument could be made. But you obviously have never thought of the pain involved in trying to explain to your 5 year old son why he shouldnt want to see the new Disney movie that his friends are talking about. There comes a point when you have to "be one with reality" and realize that no matter who you give money to, it aint going to the best use and cause it could go to.
Haha, no (I'm not that devoid of rational thought!). I just work in world where several carts carrying my equipment have tipped over throughout the years, causing me many headaches in dealing with a mixture of warranty and non-warranty claims.
Exactly. You can purchase a "car charger" adapter for most laptops, an this would be the least lossy way to transfer power. (Don't forget fuses and voltage regulation!) As long as you don't go with a GIANT marine or RV battery the weight will be anywhere between 12 and 20 pounds. Also, you absolutely should use a gel cell battery and not a lead acid. The gel cells do not outgas like the typical lead-acid batteries, and in the unlikely event of a cart tipping over, acid will not spill out the vent holes. Also, good gel cells can be mounted in any orientation: upside-down, sideways, etc. More flexible mounting means a more flexible install.
Now comes the "difficult" outside-the-box thinking; It's all about logistics right? So, why not junk any carts that would be difficult for the nurses to wheel around (assuming a load of 30-40 pounds) and get carts that are easy for them to wheel around.
I've wheeled tons of equipment on carts, and I can say that without a doubt it is the quality of the cart and its appropriateness for the task that is more important than the weight. Shitty carts make wheeling around a 20 pound projector and VCR a pain in the ass, and a good cart makes wheeling around 100+ pound loads much easier than you would think!
Factors to consider when buying carts:
average and maximum weight to be hauled
Flooring to be used on (will it be hard floors, soft carpet, parking lots etc.)
wheel size? rubber or hard vinyl? locking wheels?
places to lock equpment to
height. (will nurses be using laptops on the cart or hauling boxes of tampons?)
metal or plastic cart frame (plastic sucks)
enclosed cabinet area on lower portion of cart? lockable? (great places to keep the battery out of sight and worry)
What the hell do you mean that it will take equipment and modifications? It's a damn camera! Aim that little son of a bitch UP! Don't be a bastard. If you had that camera pointed at my house and I asked you to move it, you would move it. Or I would break it, and turn into one of those neighbors that makes the neighborhood a much less freindly place. Have some consideration.
Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. It's time to grow up and behave like a civilised human living in close proximity to other civilised humans.
The pixels are only apparent when everything is setup wrong. Any combination of:
wrong lens for the throw distance,
improper soft focusing,
UNtuned equipment (straight out of the box),
improper screen,
or poor setup (video signal cabling that is laying on top of a gigantor surge protector/powercords).
DLP is in many ways a vastly superior display technology, but as with any paradigm shift in a large industry proper and correct adoption and implementation will take a while.
yes, that's right. If everyone here went to go see My Dinner With Andre ~ the very universe would collapse onto itself. A very bad thing indeed, unless of course you have a reservation at the Restaurant at the End of the Universe.

Windows?
Well, I don't know why I would be using a *shell* account on a Windows box, but it is an intriguing thought.
You wrote a bash script for downloading mame roms? I'm sure you got extra credit in your high school computer class for that. Good job.
Come to think of it, I've used ftp to transfer large quantities of files many times. It never ocurred to me that it was some sort of special event.
Perhaps you had clue yourself in first, or troll better.
A pretty distinct advantage for those of us who use shells often or have to repair machines at a command prompt.
That one got me laughing too... I was quite impressed with that detail - but you have to wonder whether SETI was running under the directive of the "Commercial Folks" or the tech setting up the computers.
I'm really not seeing a shortage of slots..
Actually, I'm from Oregon. Regardless of the impression my text gives, I can speak English rather fluently. When sober anyways.
hahahaha....
I got out of there in 98! One of the best things I ever did was get out of that shitty company.
Unless I misunderstand - your system *is* broken without the controller anyways right? So why not just replace it?
Gee... maybe thats's why some companies want people to pay for it...

Or better yet, buy a good remote: http://www.gyration.com
Duh.
Really? I just tried to read through a few groups, and it appears the "stupid" people are out in full effect.
That said, I know what you mean - Very few people that have only been online in the last 3-4 years even know what a newsgroup is.

Maybe the corporate empire is evil, or at least an argument could be made... But did you really think the animators were evil? I like Disney movies.
