    Then let them win that battle. It is obvious that they either don't know about the other unofficial servers, or they don't care. All they want is to stop Napster (official) from operating, and this is a perfect way to do it. It will drive everyone unto the unofficial servers, Napster goes byebye, the RIAA claims that internet distribution is doomed, blah blah blah, and everyone is happy. The users because there's no more RIAA breathing down peoples necks, and the RIAA because there's no more Napster operating.

    In the past year, there hasn't even been a story a day on /. I'm all that interested in. The comments are usually shit, and after all, the stories are all found elsewhere, reported better, and reported earlier.

    Now, Sluggy Freelance is a different matter.
    But there is no way I would pay 120$ a year for /.

    Well, there's loading the icons from disk, including the image thumbnails, there's rendering them in antialiased and other shit I can't be bothered about...like I said, I'm content with it, and I'd expect it to be getting better, but it's not a slooooooooooooooow thing.

    but yeah, maybe I do have low expectations, but I'm content with them.

    Bullshit.

    I'm running it on a Celeron 466 with 196meg, and after the initial startup time of about 7 seconds (which you only need to do once...) it takes 5 seconds to open a window with my home dir that has 100 items and a nice image as a background. The AA text stuff and translucent selection indicator don't slow down very much either.

    So, yes....bullshit it's too slooooooooooooooooow. It's running slightly slower than GMC, and does a hell of a lot more.

    And as for RAM sucking...it's only using about 20meg, which I think is pretty acceptable.

    Bit like Deja.com, which went from a amazing way to search Usenet, to a really shit portal about buying stuff with their unique service relegated to a small "search usenet" link at the bottom, and now, it's back to being the usenet search engine because EBay bought out the shit part.

    I'm certain that spammers automatically spam random addresses at yahoo/hotmail anyway.

    I have an address, no-one else knows it, and it wasn't published anywhere. It gets 3 spams a day from sexamp.com. It's also not an easy to guess one.

    Either spammers spam random addresses, or hotmail is selling addresses to sex spammers.

    Maybe one day I'll set up a uuidgen'd address like
    29f03ca7-8f26-4675-b1a7-b61ebb13bb8f@hotmail.com and see if it gets any spam.
