Internships are usually in the summer, when school's not in session. What are you supposed to do if there are no relevant internships near you, and you've been accepted to one that's too far away to commute?
That's so true. Meanwhile, the less well-off are working regular jobs every summer to pay for school, and reducing their chances of success in their field. Pretty damn hard to get a decent job now without an internship in your history.
I was thinking that with the noise cancellation features, an autistic person could cancel out other stimulus to focus on a conversation with one person at a time.
There was an electronics store that really did something like that. Think it was Best Buy.
They'd show customers the prices of certain products on their websites, only it would be a different version of the site with higher prices. All to convince the customer to buy the product in-store instead.
Wasn't on a mobile phone, it was on their store computers. Still, pretty similar.
Exactly. Especially with smartphone features like the Amazon.com app, where you can scan a UPC or take a picture of a product, and it shows you Amazon's (almost definitely lower) price for the same product.
I must have been thinking of a different study, there have been multiple studies on this subject. Either way, it confirms that cellphone conversations are more annoying than face-to-face, which was my point.
What about for the recipient of a modern hang-up? You don't hear a dial tone on cell phones when that happens, just silence.
Kind of takes the bite out of someone hanging up on you.

I mean who would they execute in the company? CEO? COO? Every culpable person? That could easily be dozens and dozens of people, if not more.
And it's RIGHT BEHIND YOU!

One can only hope.
I really hope you're wrong. Not necessarily optimistic, but still holding out some hope.
Exactly what it brought to mind, for me as well. I wasn't even aware of the other usage for the term.

I'm no expert, so correct me if I'm wrong: Isn't autism essentially a constant, overwhelming sensory overload? This seems like it could help.
They disperse LSD as a fine mist into the theater and then you start smelling the colors on the screen.
LSD takes 90 minutes to kick in. I realize it was a joke, but... still.

Hahaha. Hoping that was a joke, because otherwise that's the most ignorant thing I've read today. And I was just on Huffington Post.

I'm sure that's true in many cases -- but I still think there are a lot more businesses out there jamming signals than we realize.
Cell phone conversations are more annoying to people because our brains keeps trying to figure out the other end of the conversation, and make the conversation seem louder. http://www.boston.com/lifestyle/health/2013/03/18/study-proves-that-overhearing-others-phone-conversations-annoying/tmCr9o4wDLm7dmGfdybnYN/story.html
Seems like a LOT of businesses do this, unless it's a coincidence that I lose service right after stepping inside tons of different stores.
We don't have a lot of options. It's either "vote for this d-bag" or "vote for this other d-bag," both of whom were picked out by the rich elite.
So their joke is making their articles completely illegible? This is ridiculous. Way to drive down site traffic while smarter sites are driving it up.
