I think the value of a bachelors degree is that it's in fact hard to get and requires investment in time and money.

A large part of the point of a degree - particularly a batchelors - is that it requires you to think, and to work outside the area that you're comfortable with. If you're looking for a qualification that only requires time and money, then you are looking at something more akin to an apprenticeship or a work placement. Which the OP seems to have done already, with his years of successful employment in the field.

If he's just looking for something to puff up his CV and justify a higher ticket price ... then one avenue that he could consider is volunteer teaching in CS at $LocalCommunityCollege$. (Or, as my father has done since I was a teenager, at the workers Education Association. But if the OP is in America, that would probably get him a holiday in Guantanamo or something equally desirable.)

That sort of thing looks great on a CV ; it speaks highly of one's communication skills ; it's a sign of a well-rounded and grounded personality, rather than a spotty-faced youth who'll leave the project half-way through for a higher-ticket job. And it only costs the investment of time and money (at least, as an opportunity cost).

Of course, there's always the possibility that it'll expose areas where the OP's practical experience in programming doesn't give him the theoretical background to carry the teaching load. Which itself would be useful knowledge to the OP, allowing him to target his learning more closely.

That sucker was first published back in 1949, so in the USA it's still in copyright for like a billion years or something, but it's pretty easy to find, as even the smallest public libraries try to keep it on hand. Heck, it was required reading in several of my high schools.

1984 is the how-to manual of the Government of the United States of Amerika. In the early morning hours shortly after sunrise a single gunshot was heard. The media reported the assassination of the Bill of Rights and the Constitution of the United States of America. How did a single gunshot kill two targets simultaneously many people asked themselves. A double-barrelled shotgun fired in unison. The railway boxcars began rolling into the stations soon to be filled with those in the populace deemed enemies of the state. A chill was felt but the People were helpless against the Government for the Government had been allowed to become de facto master over the People whom were now relegated to the status of servant of the state. George Orwell's scream from the grave could be heard around the world.

To some people, this is acceptable compromise. To me it isn't.

Decentralized governance is the ONLY real solution to the tyranny that is inevitable otherwise. The problem with Decentralization is that progressive politics doesn't fair well on a micro scale, and leads to tyranny on the macro scale. When I was in third grade, we didn't write out the times tables, we wrote out every single number between one and a thousand in numbers and in letters by ones, one and ten thousand by fives, tens, and fifties, and one and one million by hundreds as homework. It took about a week. That is a form of rote memorization and it works.

You talk about Common Core producing "confused, bitter adults.. or the worker drones they really want", yet the current curriculum is based more on memorization and parroting back the "correct" answers and gives partial credit for utilizing the correct method even if the answer is wrong (that, by the way, boils down to "it doesn't matter what you get as long as you do things my way") rather than critical thinking which many say is a hallmark of Common Core

It really sounds like your "bright" kid liked science and school when it was easier and as he has gotten older he has, like so many kids, started to dislike school and you are blaming Common Core instead of actually finding out why your kid doesn't like it. Maybe you should start spending more time with your kid and helping him with his studies, something called "being a parent", instead of making excuses.
