    The ability to monitor the government is a necessary foundation for free and open society. It is not a second "wrong", it's a fundamental right that has been increasingly trampled upon.

    Except the GPL has a posse, and GPL violations generate far more publicity than just some guy getting ripped off. Corporations are scared of it for a reason.

    Copyright clauses are hardly a license. If he cares so much about plagiarism that he's now crippling the source, maybe community ownership is preferable to controlling a string with his name in it.

    We should keep our eyes open and our mouths shut. It's a big universe, and we don't know what's out there, or how long it's been there before us.

    Just do what I do: pretend the values are expressed in British Pounds. Then everything seems obscenely overpriced rather than just ridiculously expensive, so you never waste your money.

    It also helps if you manage to get your balance down to a nice low 10 or 20. Then you'll avoid buying things just so you'll never again get trapped in that "oh no, I have points left over!" situation.

    Never underestimate how quickly both of those can change.

    I'm not saying one should never devote effort into design. Quite the opposite, actually. It's because careful design is so important that you want to do the cheap and easy part first - writing code. A prototype will save you many headaches later on.

    Actually, every person on this planet has an equal say in what every company does with every product offering. The companies that succeed usually devote considerable effort to listening to them (or, at least, those who are or might be customers).

    Oh, great and wise Apple guru, what other objects does that action work on? Because so far, I've only found it on the Dock.

    And how is my mother supposed to learn this? Right-click is non-destructive (unlike several meta-click combinations on the Mac) and it takes seconds to discover.

    The selective delusion of you people continues to astound me. The laptops do not come with a second button. The "right-click" functionality is replaced by a "hold down a meta key and click" functionality. Hell, I just now figured out how to empty the trash by holding down the mouse button for X number of seconds. Oh, that was intuitive. That action doesn't do squat for folders or other objects.

    Find a Finder replacement more like Explorer
    Put the minimize button on the side side as the scroll bar (and make it larger)
    Make the scroll bar not look like a smear of toothpaste with aliasing artifacts
    Provide a calculator and calendar that stays on top, but does not steal focus or gray every other application, nor disappear the moment I click something else
    and blunt weapon with the address of whomever designed the Dashboard behavior

    Since I'm asking for the sky...
    Add a second mouse button to the laptops
    Fix the headphone jack to work with standard headphones
    Fix the backlight bleeding around the edges of the LCD
    Fix the horrible viewing angles of the LCD
    Accept the return of new laptops that come with dead pixels

    The Disney movie Ratatouille is already sold with a commercial you can't skip, and the Mac movie player obeys that directive.

    With this kind of crap, I'd rather steal the things I want to keep, and rent the things I'm too lazy to bother. What is the point of owning a disc when it is polluted with commercials?

    The appeal to the lowest common denominator is destroying everything, because they're too stupid to know any better. That's where the money is. Being sophisticated and affluent counts for nothing these days.
