I'd rather all our taxes were like this. How many of us REALLY are gonna get any of that welfare money? Or social security? I believe we should have a choice in where our money goes, since we don't have a choice about giving it up.
Hell, I'd probably pay all my taxes to NASA, except that I like having drivable roads and military protection and all that...
Yeah, but the song sez "In the not too distant future..."
Maybe Joel found out something that da feds didn't want everyone else to know. Maybe next year we'll shoot a guy in to space and make him watch cheezy movies, the worst we can find... la, la, la.
Long live MST3K! The show that toght me to be synical... -------------------------------------
You can get new releases for like $9-12 USD. Also, aren't there good deals online? I really disagree with Wherehouse (used to be Blockbuster Music), Sam Goody and others charging $18+ USD for cd's. Yeah, I know Wal-Mart and others only sell censored copies, but most of what I like doesn't need to be censored:)
I mean really, of course you're going to lie, cheat, and fight against anything that you see as taking money away from your pockets.
They can see the beginning of the end this Christmas season. As Jon says, those Rio's and other MP3 players will fly off the shelves this year. This is gonna be one of those times when the music industry is going to have to make what we want, not what they want to shove down our throats.
And I can't wait. They can still make money with MP3, just like Red Hat and others can make money with a "free" OS like Linux. They will just have to change their tactics. I think this whole thing will be better for us, and the artists.

Yeah, but remember back 10-20 years ago when people thought the same thing about PC's. Now they're (basically) easy enough for everyone to use! I'd love to learn about them, but just to know. I'm not a prgrammer, I just think the possibilites are way cool! -------------------------------------
Have you tried to open a.pdf file in anything other than Acrobat?
Freehand kinda-sorta opens it, and the upcoming Adobe InDesign will use a great deal. But that is in the future. As of today, PDF sucks for any application that you couldn't use paper for. Like the guy said, these are dispaly display, not creation formats.
I do disagree that you can't open a.doc file without loss of data. You can't open a.doc file in Word Perfect. But you can open in it a simple text editor (vi, BBEdit), but you get all that crap at the top. If you can strip it all out, you have a plain text document. Of course this wouldn't work for excel or powerpoint. -------------------------------------
Not that I would like it happening to me. Actulay, stuff like this is why I still don't have one. I get jittery about my cordless phone at home... -------------------------------------
Wow... Why are you all so bitter? Remember when pick-up trucks were out there because they could work hard. Nobody really cared why they looked like for the most part.
Then Dodge came along and made the Ram and Dakota sexy, and stylish. Why can't computers be the same? They still do their job for the _majority_ of people. I think most of you guys on here don't like the fact that more and more new computer users are popping up everyday. These "newbies" want something they can check their e-mail, surf the internet, and play some games on.
Not all of us program, not all of us care what else we could be doing. We buy the computer because it runs the software we need. Whether Macs for us Graphics people, of PC's for you coders, hackers, and hardware tinkerers. I love both equally, and I'm a big beleiver in "the right tool for the right job".
Whew... I guess my main point is this: There will always be the basic beige ATX boxes for the hardware enthusiasts, there will always be an OS to fit your needs, and there will (and should) always be a choice on aethetics.
I've read that somewhere in the next couple of years, all the planets are supposed to align. Has anyone thought what might happen if one of the other planets get creamed?
Say Mars or Venus, wouldn't our orbit change? What if Venus got bumped into us? I'd be interested in seeing projected orbit for the inner planets as well...
And I thout it sucked that I misplaced a $20 bill today...
Why not tell the word processing and solitaire playing public that there is a way for them to do just what they need, with out shelling out the $ for Windows?
Even my parents are interested in Linux, and they don't have a damn clue about programming, they just want to check their email, play some games, and write some letters. They're tickled to know that they won't have to pay $100+ for the next upgrade to Windows!
And yes, I'm sure the non-technical thinking might change as people in general get more comfortable with Linux, but that may take years. Remember how long it's taken for just 50% of Americans to have a computer at home? And that's with the "user-friendly" interfacs of Windows and the Macintosh.
What a great freakin' idea!

It would really rock if someone could do this with plain ol' CRT's. I'd get all my monitors done.
That way, you could just peel off the film or whatever, just in case you lost your glasses.
Speaking of which. With this system, are each pair of glasses tuned to the LCD, or is it a generic thingy?

Why not also require that cars are able to run on leaded gasoline?
Say Mars or Venus, wouldn't our orbit change? What if Venus got bumped into us? I'd be interested in seeing projected orbit for the inner planets as well...

Not only that, but does anyone else think that it really, really rocks that Apple has based a marketable, commercial OS on *nix/*bsd?
I was just thinking about that this morning...
Let M$ suck on that one...
