Have you ever had change to work with high-end IBM servers? We've about a dozen and a half of them at my work and I can assure you Linux couldn't handle the load these servers have to handle on any hardware Linux supports. We're talking about 365+ days uptimes with load average ~20, peaks at ~80. 4-12 processors, 1-4GB of RAM per server. Though you really can't compare load number of RS/6000 to your Linux desktop box which starts to crawl after reaching 5 but you get the idea.

I mean I really love Linux. I have a web/router/gateway server at home running Linux. I have a desktop at home running Linux. I have a desktop at work running Linux. But still I admit Linux isn't as strong as AIX when it comes to high-end enterprise-level computing. And this is something IBM wants to change. And it's very cool, we should be happy about it. But let's acnowledge the current facts.

It's damn easy and quick to create good-looking GUI-apps with Perl/Gtk with just a few lines. And besides the usual C, C++ and Perl you could also choose Python, Scheme, Lisp, Objective-C, Ocaml, ADA95, Pike or Pascal (did I miss something?). Impressive list, eh? With KDE you're pretty much bound to C++.

Which development tools are you talking about? KDevelop maybe? It's cool if you like IDEs but who needs'em when you have vim or emacs or + a couple of xterms? It's the same compiler behind the binaries anyway.

Last few presidents of the States have shown that at some point, they all have to fight a little war to insure their bright future after the precidency and at the same time, gain some more political and economical profit to their country.

So let's play a little guessing game.
What will be the first target Mr. Bush or Mr. Gore attacks and when will this happen?

If (and when, unfortunately it looks like that at the moment :( ) Bush is elected, I'd say it'll be sooner rather than later but it's hard to speculate about the target. Though I'd guess Middle East since if we're talking about Middle East, we're always talking about oil either directly or not so directly, but oil is always related to Middle East issues somehow and Bush sure knows something about oil.

If Gore is going to be the new president, he might wait a couple of years but someday he'll fight too. Clinton has shown that also Democrats can arrange nice little attacks. The place? Just a lucky guess... Some small Central American country where extreme left guerrillas have captured some important Americans (say, the senator of California and his family) but the commando operation to bring'em back fails and this is discovered by the media. So the president have to do something in order not to loose faces entirely and that something could be finish off those commies. Not entirely directly, though. Of course the operation would be led by corrupted local officials. But at least the Government of the USA would cry it loud they're involved with the instability in the area, unlike a few decades ago.

    What's your bet?

There is a new Mesa for XFree86 4.0.1 that has builtin support for DRI; however, there is a problem with this package. It does not include the libGLU(a subset of the Mesa library) static library or header files. This means that you must manually extract libGLU from the existing Woody Mesa package and copy it into /usr/local/lib/whatever if you plan on running 3d apps that depend on libGLU(almost all!).

    > Helix GNOME. Plain GNOME is not good enough. No sirree. And you can forget about GNOME 1.0. Fat chance of that working.
Helix GNOME is plain GNOME. It's just bunch of pre-compiled packages for several distributions. There's absolutely no magick in it. It's just a way to distribute GNOME.A bit like Debian, RedHat and SuSe are ways to distribute Linux.
And what's wrong with GNOME version 1.2.4 that Helix GNOME is based on? It's the latest stable version, you know. AFAIK binaries compiled against GNOME 1.0 libraries will work perfectly fine with GNOME 1.2 libs.

Besides why on earth are you bitching Mozilla here? I thought this was about Nautilus and GNOME. Though you are (or will be) able to mix GNOME and Mozilla...
And why is it so terrible if Mozilla doesn't work with glibc 2.0? Now that Debian 2.2 is released, how many new glibc 2.0 based distros are there anyway?
