    Actually, If Bill had stayed in Harvard, OS/2 Wouldn't exist, remember, it used to be a Microsoft/IBM joint venture.
    If bill had stayed in college, there wouldn't have been BASIC on the altair...
    And we would all be running CP/M-86 and GEM

    I bet i could shoe-horn OSx onto POP. You allready have the code for the backend (Darwin)... port that over, or wit for the NetBSD project to do it for you, and run the frontend from OSX on top of that. You'd need to buy OSX, and it would probably be a pain in the ass, but I bet it would work.

    Why do you need a cell and a pager? My Nokia 5100 series does everything I need, and why don't I have a pager? Because it's a waste of money, if someone needs to tell me something, they call me, if I forget to turn my phone on they can leave a voice or a text message. And I don't need to worry about battery life, I ony recharge every, oh, 3 weeks to a month...

    Free BSD is the Direct Descendnt of 386BSD, it is Intel only.

    NetBSD is the mos portable BSD, While OpenBSD is the most secure, and is probably pretty portable, but FreeBSD is the least portable, but I'm sure that speeds it up.

    Not that it couldn't be MADE portable, I believe Linus used to say that Linux wasn't portable, and now its prettymuch everywhere, so there you go. NetBSD is there now though, which is why apple "borrowed" from it for Darwin/OSX. (you have to give them credit for re-releasing their improvements)

    I Would Lose all respect for UCB if they went MICROSOFTIE,
    They own one of the largest Unices in the world, BSD, even the free/open/net
    strain is based on the original, SunOS used to be called Berkley Unix
    while Bill Joy was studying there.

    Yup, they did have a "DOS-compatible" Mac, that included a x86 processor, but the actual operating system ran on a PPC, the 386 was to support the compatibility. (I think)...


    The only port of MacOS between architectures EVER was the Motorola 68k-PPC transition.

    some system of making sure that no matter what platform I'm using, I can run ANY software available with no compatibility issues.


    Its called Java, you get it from SUN microsystems, its not perfect, but its what you are speaking of.

    It is sold in europe because (I believe) because almost everyone owns a wireless there. Esp in Finland, I believe that 80% of Finland has a cellphone as their ONLY phone.

    Other than my 1 line for web surfing, I am PCS-exclusive.

    Anyway, back to the point. They probably built GSM phones for the european market, where they knew they could sell them, however, in america, Our digital standard is PCS, and TV/Web/cellphones are a harder sell.

    So it has nothing to do with HDTV.

    This has a lot to do with why America needs to completely start over. We need a new bill of rights and possibly we need to edit the constituion to add a branch of government that's job is to whacketh the officials who dareth to offend the all mighty Bill of Rights. AKA Clinton, half of congress.

    Then we need to shut the bible belt out of congresss, because they want to force their super-hyper conservative views on us, then we need to appoint howard stern as chairman of the FCC, that would kill tv and radio censorship.

    I like an Industry feel. Industry is what drives this world, and an Industry IS a community. Industry can advance technology, and make cool stuff. Community is a great thing, but a trade show IS an industry event. Meanwhile, I DO wear a tie monday-friday, but its for school.
