    Actually redmond called their .1 release windows 98, Second edition was .2, and .3 is codenamed "millenium"

    At least RedHat gives bug fix releases away for free (well, they practically have to...) while our friends from washington state call it a new version and charge you mucho pesos for it.

    It would be nice if these kid-friendly laptops could also be wallet friendly, and Linux Compatibility is nice too. Meanwhile, I know, that when i go to Uni, i'll prolly be packing something from Linux Laptops Ltd. and even they are a tad above my league, but they have the best prices for laptops that are guaranteed to run linux.

    BTW, what ever happened to VA Linux's Laptops, I swear they used to make them.

    AOL is making plans for cable access, their new beta client AOL Plus, was designed for multimedia over broadband. I wouldn't be surpirsed if their was a merger between AOL and a Cable Provider.

    Meanwhile, when can I get a cable modem???

    watch as this gets moderated down, meanwhile, I applied (last year) to do a MS Beta test, (uart pre linux) and now they are accepting me, what should I do? I don't really want/need "Millenium OS".

    Harvard will make him a doctor in 10-20 years, or so, they want to get the full amount. BTW, I don't think that my post was flaim bait, It was true, if they thought that he was worth a doctorate they wwouldn't be taking his money, they will let him buy it, but only after they have enough of his money to build an International Airport.

    ...for my ISP, I pay $15 bucks a month, and there are more POPs everyday. They only provide software for Windows, and Mac, but when I called and set up my account, they told me all the info I needed to configure my Linux boxen, And since I rarely call long distance...


    Also, you said Linux Users use AOL, probably true, but they only run it off of their Windows Partitions. Or they might run an older version of the AOL cient in WINE. With AT&T WorldNet, (check out www.WURD.com) you are officially supposed to use their software to connect, and to sign up, however, there are instructions on www.wurd.com, that tell you how to connect to their registration server without their software, and how to configure linux to access their systems, (MS-CHAP for handshake if I remember correctly)

    Thats probably because the artist's will make the money back when the people who got their MP3's come to their concerts, which, BTW, the Record label doesn't profit off of, they make money when its played on the radio, or sold in a music shop, so, an MP3, hurts their sales.

    Cool, My submission got posted :-) Gates has been trying to get his doctorate from his alma mater (harvard) for a while now, and even though he donated millions of dollars each year, they keep passing him up. So, even Harvard knows he isn't worth it.

    But, a nice donation to any state run school, or non-ivy league level private University would probably buy him a degree.

    Exactly, look at all the good stuff that's come out of NASA and the Military, The Internet, Global Positioning System, Cellular Phones, ooh ooh and don't forget thespace program, and that cool freeze dried food stuff and the Space Pen that writes upside down!! whoo hoo!

    But seriously, the Military, and NASA, develop soo much cool tech and we just take it for granted. And Frankly, I feel safer knowing that when they point their Nukes at Naval Weapons Station Earl (two minutes from my house, practically its where they keep all the weapons to arm Navy ships on the east coast) that something will stop the nike before it blows up the east coast and me with it.

    Disclaimer: I'm a Linux Usre, but I hate FUD either way, so...

    Microsoft released something called WSH (windows scripting host) a year or two ago, and you can basically write a script that does well, anything a Unix script does, there is also a scripting language called Kix, which my school uses, (its a high school, and, no, they won't listen about Linux) and then, there is the good ole *.bat file.

    Meanwhile, where can a bloke like me, got to learn how to write scripts for linux?

    ok, well, lemme see... The FCC was designed to allocate the airwaves, nothing more, if they give that right to an international organization, then they are done. They do all that censorship crap too, however, they can only do that by leveraging the fact that they can take away your broadcast rights (MicrosoFCC, anyone?)

    There are plenty of non-church associated schools out there. second of all, you wouldn't be paying for Jesus-coditioning, you would be paying for a real education. Frankly, I would like to not pay taxes too, but, well, it just can't be that way.

    And most governent agencies are quite inefficient, except when it comes to brainwashing the public, wasting your tax dollars, and stripping you of your constitutuional freedoms.

    So, really, you either care about your freedoms, or you don't. You either care about you kids/nieces-nephews/neighbors kids, futures or you don't but please, in the future, think before you flame.

    I thought it was UCLA and UCB, but, hey, I wasn't there, so i don't really know. Yes the internnet existed before tcp/ip, way back when there was only one computer connected to it and it was based completely in UCLA.

    Every american pays school taxes, whether they send kids to school or not. Why not let parents use this money to pay for a (mucho better) private or parochial education. If a particular family is soo poor that the can't afford to pay taxes at all, let alone private schools, then the taxes of people without school-aged kids will pick up the slack, and many private institutions will provide financial aide for good students who can't afford it. Anything run by the government usually doesn't work, including public schools.

    This is such a scam, first of all, They have 10 employees, second, the website is run off of some script kiddies ADSL line, and It looks like it was designed in Microsoft Word 2000.
