    I have no trouble with OMG, lol or LMAO because they were around when I was in college and I use them myself. TTFN appears in Winnie the Pooh which is over a hundred years old. Who the hell says "ta ta" anymore?

    So if these are legitimate, why not the others?
    It also bears mentioning that before printing (and even after printing) many words had several variant spellings in common usage, so I don't see what's wrong with 'every1' and 'nos.' Hey, at least she went to the trouble to add the silent and completely superfluous 'e' to the middle of 'every.'

    CYA and l8r are examples of rebus writing. The Mayans and Japanese did it for thousands of years. Why can't we?

    If you go back to 6th century Japanese especially, the way they abused the Chinese writing system was just insane. My favorite example is the use of the number 16 to mean a wild boar.
    4 is pronounced 'shi,' so shishi (boar) == 4*4 == 16.

  4. So what does this mean? on Double-Slit Experiment in Time, Not Space · · Score: 4, Informative

    I thought the meaning of the double slit test was to prove that the single electron actually passed through both slits, and in essence interfered with itself.
    But in this case we're dealing with two different electrons fired at different times, so it's not quite the same.

    Even so, if the electrons create the interference pattern, that means they must have collided... in time? So the second electron reached the point of collision before it was actually fired.
    Does that mean that every electron travels every possible path in space AND in time? So whenever it is possible for an electron to be fired, it does, and interferes with all other electrons fired at all other times?

    My head hurts. Damn you, Science.

    The police can do things like this, the media doesn't have to report it, and in the end it has zero political impact.

  12. Re:More on sinks on Unexplained Leap In CO2 Levels · · Score: 1

    The "other side" tends to be people like me - informed scientists who recognize that the surface temperature of the planet, and the patterns of those temperatures, have naturally fluxuated since the beginning of time, long before human involvement.

    Mass extinctions have happened since the beginning of time as well. There have also been civilizations that overfarmed or otherwise befouled their natural environment and managed to effectively wipe themselves out.

    I also notice that Ice ages, magnetic pole reversals, and the rising and falling of the oceans are also natural processes.

    What does it matter if the temperatures fluxuate naturally or not?
    More CO2 == warmer planet == flooding. Why accelerate the process if you don't have to?
