    Which states "b. Disclosure of APIs, Communications Interfaces and Technical Information. Microsoft
    shall disclose to ISVs, IHVs, and OEMs in a Timely Manner, in whatever media
    Microsoft disseminates such information to its own personnel, all APIs, Technical
    Information and Communications Interfaces that Microsoft employs to enable -
    i. Microsoft applications to interoperate with Microsoft Platform Software
    installed on the same Personal Computer, or
    ii. a Microsoft Middleware Product to interoperate with Windows Operating
    System software (or Middleware distributed with such Operating System)
    installed on the same Personal Computer, or
    iii. any Microsoft software installed on one computer (including but not limited to
    server Operating Systems and operating systems for handheld devices) to
    interoperate with a Windows Operating System (or Middleware distributed
    with such Operating System) installed on a Personal Computer.
    To facilitate compliance, and monitoring of compliance, with the foregoing, Microsoft
    shall create a secure facility where qualified representatives of OEMs, ISVs, and IHVs
    shall be permitted to study, interrogate and interact with relevant and necessary portions
    of the source code and any related documentation of Microsoft Platform Software for
    the sole purpose of enabling their products to interoperate effectively with Microsoft
    Platform Software (including exercising any of the options in section 3.a.iii).
    c. Knowing Interference with Performance. Microsoft shall not take any action that it
    knows will interfere with or degrade the performance of any non-Microsoft
    Middleware when interoperating with any Windows Operating System Product without
    notifying the supplier of such non-Microsoft Middleware in writing that Microsoft"

    Very Interesting! Does anyone have any information on what happened to the following tidbit from this article?

    "In May, it was Wright's turn. ION Storm fired Wright, they claim, because he tried to incite a rebellion among ION's employees. (Wright denies this.) The two sides sued each other, Wright claiming that the remaining ION partners tried to cut him out of a pending buyout by game publisher Eidos. The case is set to go to trial February 15."

    Is this still pending? If not, what was the outcome?

    Rob said it was a real shame, and it was messed up, but he isn't going to start giving Karma back to those of us who were victimized by this, so tough. It's too much of a headache you see, too much like work. So I have my own solution:

    EVERYONE WHO GETS ONE OF THESE IN METAMODERATION - DISAGREE WITH IT - COST THE MODERATORS A POINT PER POST - FUCK THEM LIKE THEY FUCKED ALL OF US WHO FELL FOR IT.

    How do I compile it into a DLL again? I could just duel boot over to my Linux partition (SLACKWARE, thank you very much) and rip everything there, but I really like using CDEX with the bladeenc.dll...

    Nothing works better than Bladeenc (IMHO) on my system. This really sucks. Does anyone know how to compile it on Win32? I'd appriciate any advice - I have borlands latest free tools and can grab DJGPP or Cygwin.

    This is kinda the writing on the wall isn't it? John Carmack is to high profile for them to just get rid of - without him, id is less than nothing, and I'm sure they know that. Hopefully, they'll get a clue, but I wouldn't bet on it. Most of the people I know in business don't care what other people think - espically if they are doing well and making money.

    I have to disagree with you here. Both SMS and Proxy work very well in the NT environment. I have used them both at work. SMS may not work all the time, but I've found that Proxy does. Espically if you have IPX/SPX (I.E. Novel) on your network, since you can then look up a workstation that way too. Basically, the only machines I cannot remote control at work are one's that have specifically been setup to not allow it.

    If I really wanted to, I could use CDC's BO2k on those systems, but corporate security has had it's sense of humor surgically removed, so I don't think I'll try that one again...

    OffTopic:While certainly off-topic, I whole heartedly agree. I'm trying to get ahold of the script now to help write an alternative - if you are a PERL hacker, PLEASE email me! Bitchslaping trolls is one thing, bitchslaping people who moderate "poorly" (and only in Rob's judgement) is abusive.

    OnTopic: If Quake 1 is now free software / open source, can it just be compiled for Win32, or does not still need the CD? I'd love to play it ( now that I have a machine capible of doing so) but am not much of a hacker - more of a good all around geek, but not a programmer really. How do I get the source, and how do I compile it? I'd like directions for both Win32, and Linux (Slackware 7.0).

    What license was Kerberos released under? Was it GPL? If not, this is an excellent reason NOT to release Open Source/Free Software under any other license. If it had been GPL'd, Microsoft would have NO leg to stand on here. They'd be legally forced to release the source code in thier propriatary extensions, and this whole unfortunate mess would never have taken place.

    USE THE GPL PEOPLE!

    That's SYgate. Not SYSgate. And SYgate is now too expensive. They used to have a good, reliable, and inexpensive product. Now it's pick any two of the above, as long as you're not picking inexpensive.
