Ask yourself, why would Apple allow 3rd party instant messaging apps when they have a very good one themselves that they could easily port to the iPhone. Probably because AT&T won't allow it on the iPhone.

I agree. Apple calls itself a hardware company. But I've always said they needed to write the best software out there to get people to buy their hardware. They could have been Microsoft. They could have licensed the original Mac OS and Microsoft would have been known as a producer of office apps. But Steve was a control freak. Granted, they make the sexiest hardware now. The iMac is far superior to any PC for consumers. And the Mac Pro is phenomenal, I just wish more affordable. And the MacBook and MacBook Pro are best in class as well.

But I didn't switch to Apple for the hardware. I switched because I wanted to use OS X. And no, I didn't come from Windows. I came from Linux. I still use Linux, but 90% of the time its on servers.

Its amazing how many Americans were suckered into believing they needed a big ol' SUV to drive their kids around. Every day when I drop my kids off at preschool, the parking lot is filled with SUV's. And I'm talking Suburbans, Excursions, and Expeditions. Meanwhile, I pull in with my Mazda 3. I have to laugh at them.

I'm using a Palm Centro right now and while I think it sucks compared to the iPhone, its pretty valuable in that I can connect my MacBook Pro to it to get Internet connectivity. And since I pretty much carry my laptop with me everywhere, the value of the iPhone is somewhat diminished for me. The moral of the story is, when building hardware, open-ness matters. The more your hardware is open, the more people can connect to it, having partners making clones speeds the adoption of your technology, and it places you much more firmly in the driver's seat. Sure, Apple might look good by making IPhones as closed appliances, but you can bet that when Microsoft finally gets its act together, and rallies around a dozen hardware vendors along a common platform, then Apple is going to get smoked, just as it was when, well, PCs slaughtered Apple the first time around.

I agreed with right up to this paragraph. Microsoft won't win this one. The iPhone will eventually lose out to Asteroid. Microsoft already had their chance in this market. The iPhone blew them out of the water.

Yep, Adobe was told that Cocoa was the future for OS X development. And yet, they chose to stick with Carbon. Can't blame Apple for that one. Simple fact is Photoshop is designed for Windows first and then ported. So its not a native Mac app and doesn't take advantage of all the technology in OS X. If you want to see what I'm talking about, take a look at Pixelmator. While its not on par with Photoshop, it combines the power of ImageMagick with the underlying technology from OS X.

While I can't agree or disagree with you on whether you find baseball boring, it is still my favorite sport. While I'd rather watch a college football game than a baseball game on television, I can read about baseball. I can't read about football. I can study baseball.

I find soccer extremely boring, but its probably because I don't really know the strategy in the sport. I understand the strategy in baseball. While the game on the field goes a bit slow, the strategy that is taking place behind the scenes is fascinating. Thats one of the reasons I can't stand the DH. I prefer the strategy that comes from having a pitcher in the batting lineup over watching the extra offense a DH provides.

If you haven't ever watched Ken Burn's Baseball, I recommend you renting it from Netflix.
