I was playing with the idea of a battle bot for the show, It would have been subtle - but most of the weponry is classed as illegal. Eg how do you 'poison' a robot - simple Coke injector... I had a adia for a black widow bot - webs , 'poison', and sting (shock) is all illegal damn! It would have been a walking bot too - *sigh* too bad
It would be cool to go at it in virtual space and see if your favorite bot could win hte match it might have lost in real life(tm) Wait for it it will come.
IMHO, it's the corporations that have too much power. They use their money as power and hire fleets of lawers to trick and confuse the judges. Take the Microsoft monopoly case for instance. They dragged out that case, and are still doing so. Diverting the issues away from the real problems at hand. (As someone mentioned the bootloader issues)
I'ts coming I'm sure. Personally I would love that. Then I could watch a movie/event I had done Pay-per-view on when I wanted to. It would skip the 'When do you want to watch it" syndrome. I talked to someone almost 5 years ago with this same idea. Cable companies would be able to use the bandwidth more effectively that way, and offer more movie choices per month.. Can you say Multicast?
That is until the BIOS is hacked as well. Alternatly; the compressed kernel image on HD could be replaced with a modified one. Give it time it will happen
Precursor to scripted animation movies?

Maybe just maybe - if its simpler they could add a feature. eg. as you advance thought the levels you could see the movies bits rendered in real time, (like a replay) (can't... get... ign.. activating anti-blocker hack)
I now have the best of both worlds. A 21" KDS CRT for my gaming. It looks better and is brighter than my LCD. I Now also have NEC 15" LCD (paid $320 for it new - Whoo hoo!) the NEC even has a laptop like lock slot (the 1/4" one) I use the NEc for my system monitor, LAN parties, and when I travel. May not be the brightest, but it is crisp, quiet, and gave me back some desk space. (I'm even thinking of wall mounting it on a swing arm)
That what I did not remember about it was the size. It was great for the proggramming mag. and a easy waay for a publisher to provide source code. (without a disk)
It was a strip reader. Saw in some programming mags about 5 years ago. Idea was to print on paper, and scan with a special device. (3"x3"x12" in size) It was robust enough to survice copiing and faxing (If I remember right) It was a neat idea that just seemed to die.
Imagine this thou, mp3 by fax, and use scanner to read.
Until the loser who wrote the virii is caught and tortured^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^Hprocecuted, this will not end. eg. end-user sues ISP, ISP sues (MS/CISCO) who in turn sues the l-uzer^H^H^H^H^H^HPlaintiff. Like anyone is going to get any money out of it.
What about all the users who have been infected from inside a gateway? eg. all the internal traffic. Won't help them at all. They would have to block it at the Megapop itself. (I am not a megapop expert) Besides, I just got connected on a new ISP and had 120 hits in one day. My Apache just laughed at them!
I want to be able to move that filtering up to the ISP's side. That way my bandwidth is not affected. (at least not down my DSL line) I have a 640/256 line, and I still see the packets down to my cisco.
This both sucks and blows as it messes up my Q3, and UT scores.;)
I never had as much trouble with the 2.4.5-9 kernels & support for the Athlon CPU. Talk about buggy. I finally had to switch to PIII as CPU before I had a stable kernel again.
We only had Apples in schools. The 'mainframe' conenctions was too sacred for us mere students to touch. I had to _pay_ for a compiler for my C64, and PC (when I got one). It would have been great to be able to copy not only your source code but the tools used to create it. This is what we can do in our schools now. BTW, how many times have you re-used or even looked at the code you wrote in high school?
I think this is a great thing. I allows the student to learn even when not in school. Hurrahh! for Linux!
I do have a problem I am looking to solve with a mini-beowolf. Has to do with real-time music recognition. I've been in the process of setting up a 4 node beowolf (as cheaply as possible) with one controller pc.
One could also calc PI now on a beowolf now. So yes, I would like to see a beowolf programming class in the college courses. Have is as intro, hardware setup, software setup, programming, advanced topics (weather).
No, they don't have to be backward compatable - they just stop supporting old versions of Win. Then just watch how many CEo's will bail that dead pony just because it is 'no longer supported'. Never underestimate the stupidity of a CEO.
Even ISP Reports (A DSL rating site) did not have a easy way to find all the ISP's connected to Qwest easily. So still have to visit them and do some more research *sigh*
Is this how they do buisness? If you don't choose us we'll buy out your ISP? Bah. And I, like the internet, will route around this problem by switching my ISP. Wonder how many others will follow?
Did you notice if your static ip + officeworks was any faster using the same speed line? The techs I've been able to talk too either don't know or can't say.

Back on June 23 I proposed the same thing. Now I'm in the process of building it.

Maybe they could moderate the junk out of it as well. I'd be curious to know just what the signal to noise ratio is.

Beacause an ISP is not a law enforcement agency.

Say I'm a mac user - Cool. they already think I'm a Windows user.
