    It compiles fast enough, frame rates in games are good enough. My Cable modem doesn't really care about the CPU. I'll probably upgrade to a TBird 1G this summer when I can get it for under $200, but I may not. There really IS NO reason to upgrade for >97% of the population

    First of all if you're fat then go lose some weight. I lost 40lbs this year and I'm the laziest thing our there. If you can't lose weight it's because you don't want to.

    Second the physicaly fit human body is beautiful. There is a reason DaVincci's David is a classic. If you're fat and don't have the will power to lose weight than deal with that fact, don't call me evil or shallow. If your ugly, well that does suck, but you should accomidate it with your figure and personality, and save your money becasue plastic surgeons are doing AMAZING things with lasers nowadays.

    About time. The task of implementing DirectX on top of native interfaces will be a moderately difficult task, but with proper funding not impossible.
    What I find interesting is the buisness model. Subscription based services seem to be the only model that works, and hopefully we'll see movement in that direction to really push some of the open source projects ahead.

    My Astronomy testbook ( Astronomy Chaisson McMillan 1998) states that this may be due to Neutrino osillation. Basically neutrino's change form on their 8 minute trip to earth. We are only cable of detecting 1 form at present, hence we only gdetect 30-50%. If there were only this small amount of neutrinos the Sun would be 1,500,000 Kelvins cooler than we thought. Not a terribly likely explanation.

    Hotfixes are the updates to the specific files affected. Most are available to d/l off the web. If you don't do this your boss should be fired.

    Incompetence is the >87% norm in the world of nt admin. It's amazing how unprofessional these self-styled "engineers" (who have never taken a physics or calc. class ) can be. They completely lack the ability to analyze problems, devise solutions, and implement them correctly.

    Microsoft DID toughen up the standards for the Windows 2000 MCSE test's. Hopefully this will flush out at least the bottom 1/3.

    Please, using terms like "synergy" presupposes a person who is unable/unwilling to think. This is an example of the classic "old school" buisness philosophy of: "When you can't grow anymore on your own, buy a smaller company with potential." The sad thing is that RedHat is showing that it needs to cannabalize smaller companies because it's out of internal steam internaly, and it hasn't even made any money yet.

    Last night I downloaded the new Gnutella client, BearShare and set off looking for a few files. First of all there were several false hits of 23K gif files that I'm sure were phony. And when I finnaly got valid hits I couldn't get anything downloaded. I tried a dozen different users and they all timed out.
