    Don't laugh, I owned a c-64 with a 300 baud modem. I can recal my first upgrade all the way up to 1200 (?) baud. and then I thought I was speeding.

    Oh, how I could recal the days of blue boxing ....

    those were the days.

    but there is hope. I'm going to dig out some real old boxes. I bet there are still some old bbs#'s and some old printed text that I could give to the list.

    I'm willing to wager that a person that knows how to block advertising has an income of >40K, has an e-mail list of 25 people with simular income or greater. And when discovers a new product that they like, they create HUGE buzz within their little circle. And that circle will most likely have people with the money or authority to purchase the product.

    so give me a way to target them I'll do it. ( google dies it best I think )

    I like what you said, and to make a better point of what the future may look like. I would like to point out a small project I'm working with.

    This small web site will not let users in from certain IP address ranges, and will not let the content be viewed if cookies are set to "no". visitors must be over 13 years old. Simple as that. It's not paid content, but the site owner want's to know that each person got their "dose" advertising.

    What I did like is 2 things, that over time ( 25 page loads ) no more ads came into view. That was it for about 7 days, then it restarted. and if you clicked on a link to another site. No more advertising from both sites for 7 days.

    So in a way, I think, I was paying the test sites by understanding the advertsing rules of those sites.

    I liked the idea.

    and yes, I live close enough to the WTC, saw it from my home also. Humor might be the best cure for what ill's me.

    No offense, Are you sure of this? I was told ( and I could expect ) that the mass of the buildings were siting in this pit ( the seven levels from the concourse down).

    As interesting your comments are, these words "people are able to justify revolution" is permisable within the constitution. SO yes, we can go to war with ourselves and we can loose all our inalienable rights.

    I will say this. I am greatful that I have these freedoms. I know of others that don't even have half of ours.

    I think Katz is right. and he was reading my mind.

    I'm just a bit north of the WTC, and those that are not around these affected areas your life go on, you lost maybe one or two people. (look at the insensitive remarks by TV preachers ) Myself I know atleast 25 people on the missing list. I Went to a funeral for one person already.

    But welcome to the real issues. What am I willing to give up so that I can go to work, play with my children and look at people on the beach.

    I can not even think about what I'm willing to give up.

    I was wondering when someone was going to state something that everyone knows in NYC. Not that anybody could get a job, but if you are a sysadmin in Unix, the odds are that you'll get a job ( decent paying ) within 3 weeks. High paying if your willing to wait 2 months.

    We get very small quakes in northern NJ (USA) depending on the depth you might feel them. A 2.2 2.6 hit just recently and was very shallow, shook some glasses in the wash rack

    a 3.? hit north of my house not to long ago and split the foundation of my car port.

    Real great way of saying it. But how to move the customer from I to A. Well if you were around in the early eighties you might have heard this in the system room " we'll never get fired for buying IBM ". This may apply to Intel and AMD.

    The only way to do the change if you can get wall street power houses to buy the systems. Once wall street gets hold of something they keep with it for a while.

    Does anybody see the general direction of the internet in relation to whom or what you can read about and on how free it might be.

    Information seems to be heading towards a paid service. Look at what just happened. If the site had TOS stating that all suits are subject to USA law and not any other nation then they might have been ok.

    Next we have the Gator or Surf+ applications taking revenue for web sites. Again if this becomes a big problem then sites will shut down or go subscriber.

    So long free internet infromation, hello paid services :(

    just wanted to point this out. the turn 4 sign was OK'ed on the broadcast contract with CBS. Most major network contracts have cluase with staduim that partake in stealing the slot/space for a certain amount of time.

    The big problem was when Nascar had it's ad's over-run by the network w/o OK. All hell broke loss and the drivers almost walked. ( would you sponsor a car if the car got no air time.

    when you get a chance look at the winner's circle after the race. you'll see a guy to the left of the winner. He will have a hat on with a sponsor logo on it. that guy get's paid to stand there and make sure he get's himself into frame.

    Want to get your office moved, dibbs on some old furniture in your building, give the maintainence guys a case of beer on a hot day. You will be amazed at the goodies that they come by with as gifts.

    examples of what I have: Fire proof file cabinets, chairs, A huge wall mirror, and tons of other goodies.

    If large web sites deny access to Gator, the product will die. People want there content and are not willing to change their surfing behavior.

    yes why not, I can run a small script to check If they run gator, and post a sign that states " since I can't run an advt to you, you can not see my site. Plain and simple. Now let's spread the word to other web sites that make there money with advertising.

    big blocks rule, be it Ford, Pontiac, Chevy, MOPAR.

    427 side oiler Ford
    455 HO Pontiac
    454 ls6 Chevy
    426 Hemi Mopar

    the above 4 motors were the nastiest off the production line. Now you could argue about anything you like, but stock, these motors were the street kings. If my memory is right the weekest motor was the 455 HO at 440HP and the top was hemi or ls6. They both could from the factory in a simular setup would have about 500HP

    btw, all the above, I've owned in one way or the other. All could move me down the line between 11.2 seconds to 12.5 seconds. All have been stock.
    and for us motor heads ... some have been shoehorned (ever fit a sideoiler in 'stang ).

    The true shame is that, We, the readers of /. have knowledge and see the errors in the M$ systems, We know how to deal with errors and solve the problems as they happen.

    Sadly the general public will thank M$ for making the patch to there software, The M$ media machine will turn and grind the "good" things that M$ has done. Again fooling the public.

    How often does the few know the truth and the masses know nothing.

    I got to admit, the Aeron chair that I sat on in a pals office was great. But I could not justify the price. I have a nice 145.00 chair that I adjusted just right for the past 3 years.

    But one day I'll own one. I have a goal # for it, when my new company makes 250K, that's the only gift I can think of buying for myself that is not to selfish.

    As for desks, I would advise anyone always look at the used market. Some great bargans are avalible. I now own a 1931 roll top ( cost $ 93.00 ) that I keep at home and 1926 Hudson desk ( 250.00 ) that has leather and inlays. I spent 70.00 for the glass top so as not to mark the leather or the wood. I have moved the Hudson from firm to firm and most of the time it's the biggest desk in the firm.
