That'll be AVC-HD. It's a reasonably new codec and only supported by a few applications so far (a list can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVCHD).
I can't find a way to purchase the CT disc from Australia - the only link I could find on their site refuses to sell it to me. Oh well, I guess it's Bittorrent until they deign me worthy enough to give them my money.
A friend of mine has a PS3 and an HDTV, but no movies. The TV is only 32" so he doesn't see the point in buying the more expensive discs. I think he's wrong and he'll figure it out when he gets a bigger TV, but I'm not going to tell him how to spend his money (or adjust his picture on his set, which looks atrocious to my eyes).
Out of interest, have you tried a Mac trackpad? I find, for reasons I'm not quite clear on, that they feel more responsive than on most PC laptops. Maybe it's the material it's made from, the more generous size or the better mapping between the pad and the display, but I can work on a Mac trackpad all day long, whereas I'm always plugging a mouse into a PC.
No offense, but your display is really too small to see a big difference. I assure you that a high-def movie looks far better than an upscaled DVD on my 92" 1080p screen. On a bigger screen the difference is even more obvious.
You may only have a 40" display now, but do you want to rebuy all your films when you get a 60" or larger display in the future? It's your money of course, but I won't be buying another DVD again, just as I didn't buy VHS when a laserdisc player was available, or laserdiscs once DVD had arrived.
I'm sure part of the fun of the Tesla will be speeding away from somebody virtually silently, and watching a cop notice the noise they make when they try to catch you...
I've been using rsync to backup now for a couple of years without problems. Resource forks really aren't used for anything important these days beyond a few system files (fonts mostly), and I can get system files back easily enough without wasting HD space on backing them up.
32bit PPC is actually supported in Leopard. It's just the *slow* PPC machines that can't handle it - get an 867Mhz or faster G4 and you're still in the game.
Just out of interest, have you tried the Mac touchpads? I dislike most PC touchpads, but the Mac ones always seem to be very responsive. I'm not sure if it's a driver issue, better hardware or just how Apple sets the acceleration settings.
Yep, the Mac OS used to suck. Then OS X arrived. I hated the machine too, now I own three of them. Your dislike of the Mac is about 6 years out of date...
You probably should try comparing them to better headphones some day. You'll be surprised what you can get out of an iPod with decent headphones (I use Grado SR-80s for critical listening).
Sure. Fuel is made with electricity too. Electricity doesn't NEED to be made with fossil fuels though, and even if it is, it's still more efficient to have the coal plant produce your energy than your old, worn-out internal combustion engine.

Agreed, 480P looks pretty average on my 92" screen...
And by the way, are you Americans trying to say 'bollocks'?
That's why you import a player and watch US discs. No awful rating on the front cover obscuring the artwork, no OFLC censorship, and far lower prices.
- Microsoft exists
- Slashdot complains
I loved both of those films. Guess I must be a critic.
A little more than what? DRM-free music costs the same as DRM-ed music on the iTMS these days.
Maybe I am confused.
Ouch. That's a night-and-day difference from the PS3.
The manufacturers swear the standalones will be 'nearly as fast' as a PS3 later this year. Doesn't really help the early adopters though.

PS3 and Xbox 360 add-ons are not included in these numbers.

No, they settled with the Beatles last year and Apple can use the name in relation to music safely. The settlement specifically covered this.
You paid $300 for XP Home? Mate, it's $90 from NewEgg...
Unless that app is Postfix.

My Oxford dictionary agrees with the parent - which dictionary are you using?

You should get your keyboard looked at - none of mine have an issue with the right Shift key.

Yup, sounds to me like young Justin should invest in a UPS...
