Not in my experience. I have some old 4GB drives that still work. Those things were built like tanks. Good for critical backups, but can be cranky at first working with new systems.

Your 40/80 drives are probably built pretty well- I (personally, no research) didn't see any dramatic decline until drives topped 100G.

Chicago trashing itself after the Bulls won
    Soccer match riots
Watts riot (along with a bunch of others that year)
the riots in France in 2005
    any prison riot

Some of these do have a reasonable starting point, some don't. The problem is that even though the original cause may be righteous, the ensuing damage in lives and property generally vastly outweighs the original reason for the protest. I think the point were I stopped thinking that rioting had any useful purpose was when a truck driver got pulled from his truck during the "Rodney King" riots and was brained with a brick a couple of times. I think I remember people calling it racially motivated, but the real point is that some random guy was hurt (or was he killed?) because a mob was pissed off at someone/thing totally unrelated.

I think that, for the most part, useful riots are a thing of the past, though I'm not well versed in current global affairs so I admit I could be totally ignorant about this. Though with the way the US is going, I wouldn't be surprised to see another revolution in the next 100-200 years.

I guess my point is that riots in general cause far more harm than good, kind of like the US in the middle east.

I run mame on my desktop, which is ok, but I always (and still) want a spin, real joysticks, a flight stick, and the great old games. I've learned you can put multiple simulators on a machine and run stuff like old Apple II games up to fairly recent PC games.

This book is not comprehensive is everything you can do, but it gives you a great start if this is a hobby you would like to do. Well worth the price. And definintly check out their website. You could easily spend hours there.

How many reports/blogs have we seen in the past few years are wildly inaccurate, just wrong, or completely blown out of all proportion? Astroturfing, bought studies, fanboyism.

I'm guessing that the blogs are so popular:

    1) People go to blogs where they get to read stuff that agrees with their own ideas/attitudes

    2) People don't want to spend time to read anything substantive (ie, RTFA)

    3) Ok, this one is good- narrow focus on a subject that you want to learn about

    4) We shall totally refrain from the topic of political blogs.

    5) Main stream media can be/will be/usually are behind in reporting things that have been mentioned on blogs. Supposedly, main stream media does fact checking, plus camera shots, background, live shots, etc. With a blog, you can pretty much just type anything you want with no reprecussions (with the usual caveats)

I know that mainstream media is abhorrent now, but at least (again, supposedly) they do some background into seek before splashing the "bad news" over anyones' walls.
