Acrobat reader is considered essential by just about every business that maintains an office. Maybe not to you (geek), but business people (end users) demand the ability to read acrobat files. Don't bother listing the alternative pdf readers, I know they are there. Does emacs read pdf files flawlessly? I've never tried it out. Why would that be more acceptable?

The mafiaboy chapter is one of the more interesting pieces, especially the wiretaps that revealed that his father was going to have someone "dealt with" to protect a big CDN$ deal he was working. The other really interesting stuff (in the book) is the kid who hacks for satan. hehehe.

  6. Re:such cameras deemed unlawful in another state on Traffic Cameras in D.C. · · Score: 1

In San Diego, CA (just last year) these cameras were disabled. The reason was that an outside contractor (TRW) received a fee for each license plate image they processed and delivered to the state for a ticket to be issued. Many rumors of shortened yellows flew, but people just like to run red lights down here.

  7. Sponser-less film festival? on Lucas Restricts Fan-Made Films To Documentaries, Parodies · · Score: 1

How 'bout the creative, non-fans (by their definition) submit their films to a separate festival not sponsored by the dark side? Seems like there's plenty of talk about the event as it is. A little bad publicity like this right before the Episode II release could make for an interesting event. Perhaps we'd see LucasFilm step in and shut down the event for IP theft related reasons.

Fuck George and his definition of true fan-dom. If people weren't so rabid about the original films, he'd never have been where he is today.

I've felt this sensation several times myself. I took a folklore class in college and came across a phenom known as "The Old Hag" (named because people frequently saw or heard an old woman and felt her sit on them). It freaked me out. I got chills reading other people's accounts of being paralyzed by a female sitting on their chests. I wrote a paper about it for class, interviewing students and staff at Indiana U. I found a few people who were willing to talk about it. I found several dorms on campus that had a history of people who experienced this. Every now and then, I get a visit from The Old Hag (and I now live in SoCal). Still scares the shit out of me!

I'm sure the scientific responses are more believable, unless you've been visited by this old woman.

I'm sure that Taco actually paid for all that music and the musicians were properly paid for their effort. :)

The recording industry does not own all of the music in the world. Plenty of bands allow fans to record their live concerts and distribute them freely. I'm sure you were being cute, but if you're gonna make Taco jokes, you should know what you're talking about. Have you ever read Taco's website? He's a DeadHead. He can copy live Dead shows and give them away without paying any royalties, funny guy. Not all music is owned by the recording industry.

Microsoft definitely grew as a result of the competition to sell the cheapes machines around. Not everyone rushed out to buy a $4000 PC to play Adventure or program in BASIC!!
