I would recommend that you set clear rules with clear consequences if the rules are broken.
After that, I would recommend that all of your children access the internet via a single point. Setup a small home network if you do not already have one and then use a proxy server with a filter.
I run the internet filter at my work and we use Squid and Dansguardian. Dansguardian rules as a filter since it does true content filter. This will also help you out by logging every site with the user, ip accessed from.
Most of all, be fair, upfront, and consistent in your enforcement of the rules.
However, does anyone know if they have released a Groupwise client for Linux or if there is an open source alternative? My work is looking at possibly moving off of win95 to linux, but we have to be able to use groupwise.
After reading this article, I'm now very interested in building a cheap SMP system. However, I want to get the most bang for the buck.
In your opinion, what is the best celeron to buy for the money (esp. considering the overclockability of the chips). I saw pricewatch advertising 300a PPGA's for $51 and 400PPGA for $76.
Also, what is the best mb to buy for the money? Is there a good one that has sound and video integrated and works well with linux?
Anyway, I'm trying to keep the price close $400 (not including shipping) so I can do it before summer is over.
Accelerated drivers for my Nvidia TNT. Now that will truely rock. I just hope my STB AGP TNT card will be able to use them. If not, I'll just have to make room for my Creative labs PCI one.
This is very cool, but the price is way to high. I mean, I would pay a couple hundred for it, but at over $900 I would rather just get a laptop and play mp3's on it. Besides, it would have a cdrom so I can use my mp3 cd's that I burned.
Why hide the box? I had both systems sitting on the desk, and had to help the "techie" setup the ethernet card in the win95 box, since I had 2 ether cards in it. Moved it to linux right after they left, and never looked back. Now, if only I hadn't had to move out of that town.:(
------------- Are all mac users this slow? I had to do this with my Linux box and the @home service. Sure they dina know jack about Linux. I hid the box in the closet , and put a win95 box on my desk. They came. Did their thing(4 hours) and left. Out went the 95 box , in went the Linux box. Done and done..
Any word if they are going to improve RPM's?
on
Red Hat 6.0 and Arm?

Since where on the topic of Redhat 6.0, has anyone heard if they are going to improve the RPM's? I left the redhat camp due to how difficult it could be to update/upgrade the system.
It would really be to thier advantage to get something similar to dselect that will update/upgrade a package & all it's dependencies in one step.
The cases look cool, but don't have near enough bays for my drives.
I'm still looking towards building a custom case (If I could find some good plans). I'm thinking of putting multiple fans in the side to help vent the heat of all the cards - these new video cards seem to run exceptionally hot.

CmdrTaco and Hemos,
If you could change 1 or 2 things about what you have done with slashdot.org, what whould you change, and why?
This is really good news if Novell is serious.

the memory price was from pricewatch. PC100 - 128 megs for $70 a piece

Here is my tenative(sp?) plan:
2 - 128meg PC100 Dimms - $140 ($70 a piece)
2 - 300a Cels - $102 ($51 a piece)???
1 - m/b ?????
1 - 8 gig drive free (already have)
1 - 10/100 d-link nic $30.00
1 - cdrom ~$40.00
Anyway, any advice on how to do it/what to buy would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Very cool idea, and I really like the fact that a linux version will be out be for the winnt :)
Anyway, I wonder if this will allow you to bind an os to a particular cpu in an smp type system. Now, that would really rock.

Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly is ALSA? Also, where can I read up on it?
Just wondering. I'd test it my self, except my 5.1 gig drive died Friday night. Life kind of sucks right now w/o it & linux.
