Very true. I got my current job (web dev) mainly because a friend of mine already worked there when they were looking for new people. I'll also second that 'people skills' are very important in interviews, below is a site I found very useful for this, hope it helps. http://www.bridge.net/~mawad/InterQ uestions.htm

Man, you'd want to have a machine stay up for that kind of load, it's not even a page a second.
Look at sexswap.com's, (banner exchange) rate of service, how many a second ? 150 or so. Admittedly they would be running fast boxes and it's a different type of application, but I just wanted to get a point across. Second point, no matter how much research you do with MCSE books, tapes (and hookers) I don't think your voice will be too well heard on a site like this.

What playing a game on a computer has to do with you being mentally unhinged, lacking morals of any sort, or not being sane I do not know either.

Seriously, when will people realise you've probably got issues already if a game makes you want to kill people.

So yeah, I took the flamebait (which I wish your comment was) but not everyone's christian who can't understand the difference between reality and fantasy, just as not every christian feels a need to pressgang as many people as they can into their religion.

    >There is no such thing for linux (unless you BUY redhat).

You mean MS 'stuff' is comparable in price ? Excellent. I'll have the following OS/s and pay when I want some phone support. 1 desktop OS with office suite, 1 server with everything I could ever want to do on the damn thing. I'd also appreciate a decent effort at security and openness instead of running away with hands covering ass from the vendor.

    >I consider myself to be quite good with computers, but even I have found it almost impossible to get Linux running.

In other words it wasn't easy the first time and you had to RTFM. If I put someone who'd never used win9x or even win3.1 and asked them to install it I'm very sure they'd have troubles too.
Every day I use it I find myself wondering how a product so fault-ridden can actually _ship_ and have so many people using it with so little complaint. Credit where credit's due MS have done a LOT to get IT where it is today. So have a lot of other companies who aren't as anti-competition as MS have shown themselves to be.

    >Because the average person probably couldn't >even get common apps downloaded, let alone setup >for Linux.

The average person has trouble doing that on windows. I'd hate to be an 'average person' (such as yourself I imagine) in a situation where there are software and hardware errors and conflicts. I cringe when I hear the common "there was a problem with my hard drive so I rang and they told me to reformat" . Screw that.

    >It would be nice to have drivers, but the >drivers that these guys write are the main cause >of Windows stability. I can't believe that their >Linux variants will be any more stable!

Err... what ? I'm not even going to make an attempt at this one. I'm sorry to say I believe you have serious issues you'd best sort through with a trained professional.

Seriously though, if you're a pro-MS user and consider yourself quite good with computers I dunno what your definition of average. It makes me uneasy inside and prone to liver failure.

You're right about the ease of use thing. But something that's notoriously unstable isn't a good thing. When I feel safe in linux and genuinely unsure of when explorer.exe is going to shit itself next something's up. When a company's got to get affiliates to write shit surveys that would fail high school maths due to leading questions that father who doesn't (want to) know a thing about computers or MS says is misleading they lose more respect they never had.

But when MS avocates such as yourself (and I'm sorry readers for stooping to personal attacks but it's just so easy ;) ) consider yourself quite good with computers. Well, 'nuff said.

The Australian government is a joke, and brian harradeen is the punchline. Yeah, there may be some way around it, I don;t know, but it's the friggin principle of the thing. I can't see how you can be happy having choices made for you buddy, I just wish there were less idiots in our country, overhearing some moron everyday make some comment about the internet merely being bombs and porn is infuriating, I long ago gave up even bothering to get annoyed over the issue, (one just gets to hoping they die horribly in a car crash) .

When I heard the killers singled out the 'jocks' I wasn't sorry in the least for those that had been _singled out_ . Jocks are on average, wankers who simply use idiot methods to gain some measure of respect from other sheep. (oooh look at that, I'm a cold prick, so bite me). Heard the line from some Offspring song 'fuck with me and I'll fuck with you', some of you may , others not but the message is clear either way. Schools are full of young people full or hormones, ideas and energy, too bad this more often than not results in the usual sporting popularity BS, and alienation of others. And why vilify Goths/Geeks? The Goth scene is one of the friendliest and most supportive I know of (well here at least), they were obviously close friends, brought together by adversity and they stuck it up 'em. It's sad that there is going to be nothing learnt because of the search for a quick buck, it really is. It's moronic that a band and a game are singled out and used as scapegoats (like the recent killers), but it really shows that people are still just as clueless and pathetic years after school. I'd rant more but I can't be bothered.
BTW: Keep things like this up, open forums are great :)
