    If you're so afraid that the post PKZ NAI PGP is tainted, don't use it.

    PGP 6 and PGP 5 seem to run just fine on my PowerMac 5500/225 under OS 8.6.

    I'm currently using PGP 7 Pro.

    If I'm not mistaken, PKZ is now at PGP, Inc and seems happy enough with their implimentation of PGP.

    Actually, since this past August, I do.

    I became a convert to the multi-button & scrollwheel mouse earlier this year. I found an Elecom mouse designed by Shirow Masamune on eBay and I've been really pleased with both the mouse and how well it works under Mac OS 8.6 and USB Overdrive, a third party USB input driver. http://www.usboverdrive.com

    What's amusing is that with both iCab and IE 5.1, it's the LEFT button that does all the terrible image copying dirty work. Hold the pointer over the image to be copied and hold down the left button. Up pops a menu and just click on the "Save Image" option.

    So let them write all the "disable right click" javascript they want. My 1337 mousing skillz are unstoppable!

    Think of the hilarity that would have ensued at Albion and the spamhouse if he'd sent them envelopes that had unscented talcum powder in them.

    Imagine being shut down for a few days, having the police poking around your establishment, having to reimburse the fire and police after the 4th or 5th time they have to come and deal with what may or may not be anthrax.

    If you're the spammer, having to leave your home while the mysterious powder is analyzed, and maybe hacving the cops poking through your home and files.

    No one should actually DO THIS, as it would be illegal and get you into serious trouble.

    Amusing to think about, though.

    Yeah, iCab doesn't render CSS 2 perfectly... yet.

    After all, it's still in pre-release and the iCab folks tell you that some features still need work or are yet to be implemented.

    Oh, and by the way, as I use a Powermac and iCab, yes, that DOES make me better than anyone else!

    I have one. I quite like it.

    Aside from being a darn good mouse, it's also a striking piece of desktop sculpture/art.

    Despite what it says on the website, it is also compatible with Mac OS 8.5 through 9.2.2, even on older Macs with a USB port card in a PCI slot.

    For OS 8.5 and 8.6. you do need to download some extra software from Apple, Apple USB Card Support 1.4.1 and GameSprockets 1.7.5.

    And you really want to get USB Overdrive. Seriously, if you're on a Mac with USB and want to use a multibutton optic mouse, USB Overdrive is the killer app for you.

    Sounds like a pretty decent setup, all things considered.

    My Mac is on the coffee table in front of me, as that's the only flat, horizontal surface that's suitable. The other Mac and the Sun SPARC 20 are in the bedroom.

    I don't have a wireless mouse, but the mouse I use (see http://tinyurl.com/vgva for what I'm using) has a nice LONG cord, so I can lean back and use the mouse on the top of my thigh. Most of my email and surfing can be done with just the mouse. I know Steve Jobs considers it heresy of the blackest stripe, but a multibutton mouse with a scrollwheel on a Mac rocks very hard. Let me plug USB Overdrive (http://www.usboverdrive.com) as the killer USB app for input devices on the Mac.

    If I can get the apartment I want over in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston, I WILL have a proper setup with all the computers in one area, networked and with a wireless Internet connection.

    There is no such thing as TOO MUCH surface area.

    I have the ideal desk waiting for me in New Bedford, MA. It's a Steelcase as I describe in the previous message.

    Except it's on the 3rd floor of an old office building... with no working elevators,,, and the only stairs are the staircases that wind around the open framework elevator shafts... and the stairs themselves are ankle deep in demolition rubble in places.

    If I had the money, I'd gladly hire someone with a strong back and a pickup truck to help me move it down the stairs and to my apartment in Boston.

    What you want is one of them big old Steelcase desks from the 50s/60s!
    Surface area the size of a small aircraft carrier. Get the desk with the swingaway typewriter platform for the flatbed scanner or just remove the platform mechanism and stick the minifridge in its place. Or a couple of computers. Some of these desks had a 30" X 60" or larger desktop surface area

    Man, that PoeticTech thing looked like something from a cheapass Sci-Fi series.

    Until this past March, I was happily using System 7.6.1. When I changed out the 5400/180 logic board for a 5400/200 board, I jumped directly to OS 8.6.

    I'm really happy with 8.6. Although, now that I have a 5500/225 logic board installed, along with a Sonnet 400Mhz G3 upgrade card plugged in the logic board, along with 128MB of RAM, OS 9 might be an interesting experiment.

    But I digress.

    What I've got now suits my needs quite well. Eudora still works. iCab still works, Graphic Converter and Photoshop still work, SoundJam MP still works. Text Edit-Pro still works. I do regret that I can't access the iTunes Music Store, but as I don't have an iPod yet, I can live without it.

    If I had a suitable Mac that could run OS X, I wouldn't mind paying the yearly upgrade fee. After all, it works out to something like US$10.00 a month. People pay more than $10.00 PER DAY for two cups of Hot Cup Filler from Charbucks!

    I think that the average OS X user can squeeze out $10.00 a MONTH for the annual upgrade.

    Maybe it's just me, but I don't get your point.

    My suggestion was to those folks who are offended by the DRM and the file format of the iTMS music files. The solution of buring a CD and ripping from the CD is a waste of time and money and blank CDs.

    Intercept the data as the downloaded is playing and save it as MP3. Voila! No DRM, No playlist buring restrictions, No networking limtations.

    You've leagally downloaded music and used your right to make a backup copy you can use anywhere.

    You don't need to burn a CD full of AAC encoded music from iTMS, and then rip it to MP3 if you use either of the following:

    Total Recorder for Windows and Wire Tapfor OS X.

    Both intercept and record an audio stream from inside the computer (to put it simply enough for all to 'get' the idea) and save it to the HD or RAM disk AS AN MP3 file.

    Import that MP3 file into your "music" folder/library/portible digital player of choice and away you go, unencumbered by DRM.

    I beleive that either of these applications mayl also work with WMA files, regadless of how DMR bound they may be.

    For the True C=64 geeks out there: I also have a 1351 mouse, Suncom Icontroller, 'Lbow two slot Expansion Port extender and SwiftLink modem interface and cable.

    The C=64 and C=128 were amazing machines. hacking them was simplicity itself, and add something like SuperSnapShot, with the ML monitor, you could actually enter and mess with running programs, exit and see the results of your ML hacking.

    As much as I like my Macintosh, my C=3 SHIFT S belongs to Commodore, now and forever.
