I must disagree here. I have looked at the Libertarian party, and have been able to summ it's philosophies up in a simple statement: "Do not interfere with my right to do what I want unless I am interfering with the rights of others to do as they see fit." So if I want to stand on my head in my front yard, I can, but if I stand on my head in the middle of the street, I'm arrested.

That's just your own interpretation. ESR needs to definitely stop plugging in his own political beliefs into every Open Source-related discussion. I am sure many Open Source developers don't share his passion for guns. I for one would love to see them all outlawed everywhere.

I agree but also want to add that HTML is not portable not only because people don't upgrade their clients, but also because of incompatability between the comparable versions of IE and Netscape browsers. Whenever I create web pages for some of my sites, I am usually in state of horror when I see how different can the pages be rendered in IE 4/5 and Netscape 4.5/4.6. This is especially true for bulleted lists and tables.

What I find particularly funny is that the word "black," although mostly used to denote "a dark color," in the physical sense means "absence of color." How can an organization for "Colored People" represent "Abesence of Color" type of people? :)

The number appended to the admins last name isn't random. If you do a whois lookup on yourself or your domain, you'll find this is actually your ns 'handle.' The number NS has appended to your last name (usually the entire last name, plus the uid), and is just as easy to obtain as any other piece of info you've registered.

This is clearly not true. I got the mail and it didn't have any numbers appended. My assumption is that they append numbers if they have more than one person with the same last name. Since my last name is pretty unique (only 5 families in the entire world, AFAIK, and I am the only one that owns a domain), I didn't get a number assigned.

When it comes to importance of spelling correctly,
you are preaching to the choir. I am fanatical
about using correct spelling (and grammar).

However, I disagree with you about the importance
of handwriting. I make the effort to spell
correctly when I write, but I also want to be
able to have a machine do the mundane task of
    double checking that same spelling.

If I get a paper that I need to review/grade/read,
I give up on it after the second misspelled word.

Also, someone else made the point that letters
in electronic form have the benefit of being
easily editable and reusable. Maybe the e-ink
    will change things around...

You mean people actually send hand-written snail

someone (once a year), there is no way I could
hand write it. It would take me 5 times longer

After a bunch of news items where you misspelled

    Marc's name.

Which brings another point. Slashot needs a spell
