    It is what it says in the tin, immigrants are not getting it.

    They are lumped in this horrible living conditions in gethoized parts of big French towns and are discriminated when they apply for jobs or try to access higher education. In many situations a foreign sounding name in a CV is enough for them to be wedded out from a job interview.

    Do men get stoned to death in the US when they are unfaitful? For any offense, mind you, but since you brought child support into the mix, well, try staying in that context.

    Do men in the US are ever subservient to their mothers, their sisters or any female relative?

    Are men in the US forced into forced marriages when they are children?

    Can men in the US go anywhere on their own?

    Do men in the US need to cover themsleves head to toe or be arrested by the police?

    Is absolutely espectacular that somebody tries to make a comparison of lives of women in Saudi Arabia and live of men in the US.

    Only somebody completly ignorant about life in Saudia Arabia would attempt to do such a ludicrous exercise.

    Was prophetic (it happened) and as a matter of fact, historic as well (Sarkozy added to the flames of civil disturbance in France refering to poor people, mostly people of foreign decent ignored by French society, with appaling names. No wonder there were several violent demonstrations after the election).

    The King of Thailand has regularly opossed military coups (which are saddly too common in Thailand) and comes from a lineage of liberal Kings that hadm little by little, introduced liberal reforms in the conservative Kingdom.

    Something else that explains the Thai psique is the fact that Thailand has always been an independet country, never colonized by Western or other powers (not for lack of trying, mind you).

    These stupid laws are put in place like politicians, who are the ones that legislate.

    The King is the head of state but his role in politics is severely limited, nevertheless he has earned the moral authority he has in Thai politics, not to speak of the reverential love of his people which is part of Thai culture.

    If you want somebody to blame, direct your anger at Thai politicians, which could aboilsh or modernize such laws, but don't do so since it is quite a good populist tool.

    People wrote music, poetry, books.

    You point is frankly mooth.

    People could become popular by giving away work and then the good ones on their field would be comissioned for ad hoc work. Also performing could come back with a vengeance (good poets nowadays make lots of dosh in poetry recitals for example).

    It is called patronage, and you would not need to be rich to join the game.

    1000 people paying 10 bucks could encourage a writer to write a new book for this group of patrons.

    Everybody and his dog have to work day in day out to make a living, but many people doing copyrightable works want to be benefitted for a piece of work for the rest of theri lives, the lives of their children and a bit more of their grandchildren.

    And I frankly do not understand how it can be put any clearer in the English language.

    The GPL is an intermediate practical solution using the current legal framework that approaches as much as possible a situation in which copyrights will be minimal or non existent.

    Most geeks and nerds (are they synonymous terms?) should read Nelson Mandela's autobiography, he talks about how any revolution should start first trying to subvert the order of things using the tools provided by the existing legal system. That gives your struggle legitimacy and the moral high ground you could not attain if recurred to means of fighting the system illegally.

    Doing illegal things is the mark of an unprofessional employee, I am amazed that a few folks are trying to find any justifications, specially in the full knowledge that there are cheaper alternatives out there.

    If your company can't afford Office there is absolutely no excuse for them to use something else. This horse has been beaten to death in /. so I will not elaborate how this could be done.

    This is not an ethical issue, it is a legal one.

    One should must send an email like:

    "Can you remind me in how many machines do we have to install X? I would like to remind you we have no license left, please advice on this regard"

    People that bend their ethics, well, they don't really have any, no matter which excuses they give for it, as I have said elsewhere on this thread, doing the right thing is just that, nowhere it says it must be the easy thing to do.

    I worked in several countries that are well known for corruption.

    I never ever installed pirated software for anybody.

    Working in a corruption ridden place is no excuse for you to become corrupt as well.

    If you have no morals, values or respect for the law of the land, fine, but your stance describes an illegal action, no matter how you want to spin it.

    It certainly is not a hineous crime, but each person has to fight his own fights, a Systems Administrator has this kind of battles on his way.

    As did my dad before me.

    He instilled into us some moral values, a sense of what is wrong and what is right and of how doing the right thing is very often not the easiest thing to do.
