When did NH get an income tax?
The rules are simple. Your state credits you on taxes paid to another state. However if the other state has a higher tax rate... you lose.

Bitterness may be unavoidable. I try not to be. I too have been laid off a couple of times in my career.

Lifelong employment will not happen again unless you own the company.
So remember to keep your resume and (portfolio, if it helps your job) up to date. Not on your work computer.

Save your money and keep your skills sharp. You will survive layoffs. You will also survive these sermons.

    Best of luck former AOLers

Yesterday the Wall Street Journal on-line (sorry a subscription service) had an article on this very subject. They also had Mr. Anderson, the Best Buy CEO congratulating himself on being able to pigeon hole customers, Affluent Men, Affluent Mothers, Small Business owners and early adopters. They steer these people to the big ticket items.

I don't know what stores he was talking about, but my local store seems to specialize in ignoring customers like me (I fit three of the categories), feigning ignorance about products, and opening boxes before one leaves the store so that if the item is a gift, it's return is subject to the restocking fee.

There's nothing wrong with aiming toward the big spenders, but remember someday the young couple on a tight budget will be the people with a lot of cash. They will remember how they were treated when they were poor.

Best Buy is always the last place I would shop for anything.

The story of a mismanaged government program and it's the fleecing of America. No two sides, just one.

The rest of the broadcast is "Health news", a heart wrenching story or two and ten minutes of commercials.

The problem with any tax - in any country - is that the money often gets diverted to other purposes. Massachusetts instituted an additional tax on gasoline a some years back. The idea was that the money would pay for road and bridge maintenance. (Road contractors were the biggest supporters).

Needless to say, the money went to other places. Soon they will want to add a gasoline tax to pay for what was already supposed to be covered.
