I think that is a loss to the economy I will be willing to make...maybe they can get a new job as vacuumcleaner salesmen going door to door, that is not quite as annoying as the phone calls.
If the content wouldn't tip people off at the hoaxc one thing would for sure... the Grammar, ITS GOOD and the spelling is good... so everyone knows there is no way Bush 43 wrote that:)
With a company that large support costs would be substancial. We both know they are not shelling out a per computer licensing fee, but probably have site licenses that are actually rumored to be cost efficent. [we use SuSE on all our servers, and some of our desktops but we are also significantly smaller and did not change systems mid stride]
The main cost here would not be the licensing, but rather the training until the same level expertise is reached with the new system for the workstation user (lost man hours, actual cost of training etc.) and support costs.
I don't know what the acceptable standard is of system administrators to users, but lets say 100 users need a support staff of 3-5 people (depending on the field of expertise, shifts, back up personel, crisis management etc.) to gurantee uptime somewhere near 99.9% of the time. The avg. college kid can probably work as an intern in a lot of these when it comes to M$ based solutions, but when you go off into the world of Unices, where people actually need to have a basic understanding of what is happening support costs (and the avg. wage of the staff) would skyrocket. So grudgingly, I have to say that Open source would probably not be the answer for them, unless they phase it in through usual upgrade cycles and develop an efficent system for training (and that is very much an 'if')
I think cause right now is definitely needed but under the wonderful DSEA (Domestic Security Enhancement Act of 2003 aka the worst idea ever) I'm pretty sure there will be no such thing as priviledged information anymore, especially on the Internet. As there are actually incentives for ISPs to screw their customers...
scary thought, if this actually makes it to Congress...I'm scared as we speak.

If you think that post-war Iraq there will be no more Civil casualties due to torture, you may be right but you are missing the much greater problem. Everybody knows Saddam is evil, NOBODY is denying that. What people are pissed off about is the illegal occupation of foreign soil in complete violation of International law and the following
Iraq will be humanitarian nightmare, we all can agree on that. The Revolt in Basra was due to people wanting water. Now imagine this on a much grander scale. Say imagine this little country that 'pacification' was tried in...lets call it Somalia...great success there.
But worse yet is that thinking that the new government is going to truly be democratically elected is somewhat naive.
The concept of the Kurds and the Iraqis staying at peace is about as realistic as an evening stroll on the Moon next week for either of us.
Nobody in the middle east likes the Kurds, the Iranians, the Turks and the Iraqis regularly attack Kurds on their own territory.
So having already established that post war violence will exist, I'll leave you with saying that the US had already put in a friendly regime in '68 the same fellow they are trying to get rid of now, gave the Iraqis intelligence that was used in gas attacks in the '80s against the Kurds and Iran.

So what about lazy parents that need money and have Junior go grab his car and take Dads ATM card to the Bank and get him some money from the machine, used to have to run that errand frequently for my parents. This new system while creating better secuirty is also going to cause quite the hazzel.

After watching the game, reading the media reports of the Telegraph, Sport1.de, espn etc. it seems pretty obvious that Germany actually outplayed Brazil over quite a stretch of the game. (At least the news sources would agree with me)... Kahn made a mistake, he is afterall Human and that was the difference in the game, the second goal was caused by Jeremies being subbed for an attacker that did a rather poor job on defense to create the 2nd goal...and there it was... thats why people started celebrating 11 minutes early... Both teams played excellet, it wasn't as dirty as I thought it would be...nobody collapsed holding their head after a ball touched their hand;)
Good game... contratulations to both...I think Brazil did very well and Germany definitely went beyond what was expected before the tournament started...
Why would any company, especially one which does have a clue and has been around before the "The Net is for exploitation" additude by most companies. Something like this is illogical for the company, I think they were misquoted, maybe even purposely. I could understand if they would crack down on people using their software w/o prior licensing... yeah yeah, Open Source etc. I love OpenSource, but most companies still earn their bacon diffrently.
It almost sounds like a disgruntled programmer who created an image editor which he did not buy a license for and was shut down. So he wants the entire world to take a patent were he does not have to pay royalties and then bring out his software... maybe I'm just naturally distrustful of human nature...but maybe I just might have a point
Everybody that has ever looked at any of the ripped copies of SWE1 will notice that they will not get the whole emotional feeling without having seen it on the big screen. So everybody that took the time to download it was surely disappointed and went on to watch it on the big screen. So there is no loss there. Most people that are likely to d/l the movie have watched it more than once I would bet. So why would he bother? Why would he bother with such court costs? He is doing nobody a favor, especially not his image in the public. The only thing I can see hurt is the VHS and DVD sales but since Lucas wont have them released for a long time from now its his own fault...

Think of how many great products (well mostly for the dos/windows market) there are out there which are shareware or donationware? How many companies SOLY rely on shareware that are now power houses? McAfee and such. People which are just in a "if its not GPL it ain't good" frenzy are ignorant of products which are of high quality but don't offer source code. Such ignorance might very well be what will one day bring an end to the linux movement. I sure don't hope so. But please broden your horizon shareware is the easiest way of distributing small software utilities which have to pay the rent.

Anybody know the bumper sticker "Last time politics and religion were mixed people burned at the stake"
So what does that tell you? Does reading "In God we trust" on this countries bills not infringe on Freedom of Religion? If I do not believe in God(which I do not say I do or don't) why should I be forced to read passages praising god on things I use for paying for beer, food and well yeah I could use those small sheets of paper reading "In God we trust" to to to buy PORN?!?!? anybody else see the irony?
I immigrated into the US, not for religious freedom or anything like that. But in Germany the party I voted for was the CDU, Christian Democratic Union (the ruling party for 16 years). Would you believe that they do not advocate stronger support for Christianity in Government and that a good chunk of their voters are not christian?
So just because Liz advocates censorship because of her religious believes it makes her a good candiate? Yes I want to vote for a candiate that will make this country even more sexually repressed. What She wants is to keep information which she deems to be offensive under wraps for people using Libraries? How constitutional. Could you point out the passage in the constitution the reads "you will have to, against all principales of a democracy, life by the standards of a minority to protect another minority?" Start with Libraries and soon we will have a Senate Task force to eradicate none-G rated material on the Internet.
Did anybody ever wonder why the majority (us which are above 18) have to cater to the minority (those below 18) and hide violence from them or sex. People come on, Sex is a normal everyday thing, no other country is so "closed closets" about sex as the US. If you want to worship your religion keep it worshiping and believing in your religion without forcing it upon people like me. And do not force your moral standards on me either, because as an individual it is my choice to accept your religion OR morals and should not be forced to accept them.
For the last couple of months half of Germany has been looking at the odds of the current Social Democrats & Green party coalition surviving a full term. Most people are betting against it. And there is a reason that they would not win the elections again if those would be held today. Such as crippling the economy, destroying jobs, the 630 Mark Jobs and maybe cause there hasn't been a change. Ohh yeah the hypocritical stand to NATO and Kosovo might have something to do with that too...

I am assuming that this companies staff is already trained in MS Office. Hence, I am considering the re-training cost to another office suite / OS.
