I have been using linux now for one year. I started off with Mandrake, which great it configured all my hardware (except the winmodem). Setting up the internet, printing, firwall, and other programs was easy. But alot of the CLI grunge work is taken care of by Mandrake, so when you need to do something in the CLI you really have to learn at pace. With SuSE 7.2 I had to do more CLI work and configuring.
On real big difference with Mandrake is that all the programs are polished for the distribution. Most RPMs have a "mdk" designator, and should be replaced by updates from Mandrake.
Suse on the other hand uses the native programs, no special modifing.
The technology behind the typical HD has been around for a long time. Sure there have been advancement on size and speed, but it is too mechanical for the speeds of todays computers. Now the RAM and processors are puming 1's and 0's faster than a HD can even dream of spinning. Lets delve into biochemical storage, or even 3D storage.
Didn't Win users realize the great potential when Win 98 ME, or Win 2K SP(?) ? Who can you create such a big project when your still pumping out service packs. So how the Passport working for them?
Ok all the super knowlegable, and fasionably environmentalist can argue about what the causes are BUT what do you do to help? You recycle cans-good. How about paper, plastic, glass? Hell you know in Italy they even seperate dry goods from humids, like food scraps. Were does that go? Into the mulch, fertalizer for the farmers.
This could be a great start.

This can be great for remote location or war recovering areas to bring back the library and help the education system get on track.
These schools have a hard enough time to get M$, a program they already know. You introduce Linux ( which is a great idea) then you have to find somebody to hook everything up, and do the administration on it. Sure some of the kids will know it well but do you want a kid running your schools network? Any how go ahead and give them Linux, but make sure they can use it too.
Ok with all things set aside, like Russia complaing now that we want a missle defens PLUS nuclear rockets for space travel. Look at some of the quotes in the article.
"But a change in public attitude towards nuclear power would take the heat off NASA,"
Since when did the public start accepting nuclear power? I know Dick and George have changed thier "public" opinon.
"There are some legitimate safety and environmental issues if the spacecraft were to crash during launch,",
I can see this now-at 30,001 feet the nuclear engine kicks in, but an o-ring breaks and air gets into the rocket and BOOM we radiate ourselves and our coast line.
I think that it is good for people to still practice using the slide rule, it might help solving some problem down the road just like people who learn Latin can understand some words in an unknown language.
So now people are crying about BB can see you?
Well first of all if you think this is bad look at what they can see from the sky!
Second this is like any other tool out there, it can be misused in the wrong hands like an olive fork.
Like a quiet spring breeze forcasting a storm the users flew in proclaimed M$ turff, created some diversion and left with out a conflict, just a question in the minds of the non-linux users.
Nothing can make an adverary more angry than to walk away with out agression.
This Steve and Bill combo, they are the true fathers of the technologicaly imaipred. Not only do they want us to use what they deem "worthy." They are going to help us stay out of trouble by trying to copyright software in a more "safe " way, but they will make sure we use the right programs by making us register them for approval. What is quite funny is that they said DVD's could not by decrypted...O.k.
I can understand such a request. After all I have downloaded MDK 8.0, and have given it to five friends. And MDK didn't recieve any money. Yet it took plenty of hours to complete the distro. They have families, jobs, and other things. Look at Eazle, no money, no product.
I bought four games and they are great! Loki is going to suffer the same fate of the Amiga with people pirating the games off!

So since AOL and Amazon partner up, and M$ and AOL are tring to hash it out...does that mean Amazon will stop selling Linux stuff?
It will never be the same. Specialy when they start charging for the service.

Don't worry I do more than that. I just hate people who talk the hype then throw their soda/beer can in the garbage.

Put a M$ EULA and you'll get some security.

It seems as if M$ is following its own circle of life. One issue after another untill they can get it right and keep it out of the Media.
