In case anyone wants to read a little more on the actual case used for this, here is a link to the actual manufacture of the case
it is made by Future Power, and I have to say, they do make a excellant case. (being a distributor for them I am a little biased though) I have this exact same case without the watercooling. Nice setup from them and a nice case. Think they did i great job
I have to say, I have mixed feelings on this. On the one hand, a devoted Adams fan, I look forward to reading anything that he wrote. Being that this is a "unfinished" peice of work, is a little insulting, (wrong word but cant think of what to use) and at the same time, seeing as i cried when I read that he had passed. I want to read it, to see a little bit of the raw material that he worked with, to help get a little closer to the man who agonised over every word to ensure that I the reader would love it like the last.
No matter what form, or shape this is in, I am sure it will be a enjoyable read and will earn its place in my libarary, not for the actual words on the paper, but for the dedication and commitment to his fans.
Why not get all your info on your wants and needs and then find a local computer shop that has been around for awhile and have it either 1 built there or buy your parts from them.
Advantages are numorous. One no shipping charges, you have a very open and informative dialog with the actual person who builds your machine. returns are generally quick and painless.
Also in the current state of the market, prices are also Right about where the onlie guys are.
Limited anonymontity, No longer are are able to just hand a buddy 5 bucks to help him out, or loan your neighbor 100 bucks without having to report Each and every transaction to the good Ole IRS,
Yes to most this i trivial, but just think about it, if you play the lottery do you report all the small little winnings? How about the 10 dollars you found on the ground?
I for one do not like the idea of Big Bro or anyone else for that matter having access to my entire Spending habits with a click of a button.
The main diferance here is the tape in the Rodney King incident was taken by a private citizan on his own, not some wide spread use of a video system by the police.
New York is a big state, I'm far upstate, so I'm not driving 6 hours just to protest
Ok then don't. I myself would. This is part of the problem with Our society now. Nobody wants to lose what little shrad of the first adminment we have left and will tell that to everyone who will listen. But when it comes time to take a stand, if it is an inconveinace to them they say sorry.
When saying that you are all for free speech and such, one must ask themselves how dedicated to the cause are you? I myself would do it if I felt that the 3 day drive from IL would be worth the effort in as much as it might actually do something. Instead I think I will look for another method of accomplishing the same thing. Such as finding someone close by that is going to be there and trying to get video of the hearing or talk to the lawayers and send it live via the net.
Sorry it rambles a bit, still on 1st pot of java...
I agree. There was an artical in the chicago tribune newpaper Yesterday on a company called copyright.net that is using a peice of software, little bot anyway. To scan the harddrives of users that are using the service of napster or gunata(sp) looking for Songs that are copyrighted. The link to the article is HERE
Once is finds a song title on your system is sends of a letter of demand to your ISP, demanding that your connection be terminated until you remove the offending title. This is very much like breading and entering to me. They are not part of any of the services that the user uses, but they secretly invade a system and scan the hard drive. There needs to be laws protecting us from Blantant attacts on our privacy like this. I posted this to/. yesterday but it was rejected as an article so figure is sorta fits here.

Good idea, Imaigan a world that links the two games together. Not only do you build(destroy) the simcity, but also the mindless sprites that live in them (sorry about the OLD reference to grahpic blocks from my C= days)
It would be nice to have a perfectly running city, all happy sims in it, then suddenly you blow up the main road in front of your sims house and shut down the bus depot, then sit back and watch them try to figure out how to get to work. They cant get to work, causing them to lose there jobs, then they miss there house payment, it gets forclosed, they are now homeless and hungry and the utimate city planners just sit back and watch and act like it doesnt happen. YAA just like real life then.
In any event, never talk serious before third pot of coffee.....

Ok now, this is a little off topic by not by much. In all this talk about the illegal trading of copyrighted music and such on area is left out of the talks. What if I already own the CD/Cassette or even LP in question and I have no idea nor do I wish to learn how to rip a track of of it? As far as I remember, the copyright laws state that I am allowed to make as many copies of copyrighted material that I own for my own personal use and archivial purposes. Now by blocking the trade of mp3's from one user to another isnt it in effect limiting my ability to make a backup of any such media that I already own?
Or what if I have the cd but it is scratched so bad it is un playable, so I want to d/l a few tracks off of it to play, perfectly legal but The RIAA has now foreced me to either go without that mucis or buy another copy of it.
I think napster is a dead horse now anyway, its just a matter of time before the body stops moving, and as for the CDDB, I only hope that the start tryign to figure out what exactly the mass users of there service want and somehow find a happy place for all in there business model.

Privacy vs Paranoid? That is the question. It is a very thin line to walk. On one hand I can see the ACLU's view and on the other I can side with the views of the program itself. I have no problem with figerprinting for lunch, in and of itself. In fact this technogly has been used in many other areas for security, credit cards, Access to ones workplace. Even for access to files on ones computer via a scanner in a keyboard. The problem lies not in the technogly but in the garding of the data itself. I had stated in another/. article the same thing.
What I beleive we need to focus on, and the ACLU should as well. Is not stoping the use of techonlogly but making sure that the oprogram is used ONLY for the means it was set out for and not abused. Inheartly I think most people would not have a problem with this if it were not for the fact that throughout history we have been shown that anytime there is a wayto abuse a program or system, the govertment or even private business can and will do so for there own gain.
Also using the "bully" examples to me just makes me want to grab a soap box and start the "Parantal Responsibility" song and dance all over again. I have said it many times and will again, we ALL need to be more pro-active in our lives, weather it is concerning, what our chirldern do, see, or hear, to what is going on in our communities as well as the country as a whole. Once we start taking action, and here it would be making sure that the information being used for the lucnh program stays stricly for that program only, we will become a more stable and unified body. To many times do we lose a peice of our privacy simply because we were too busy or distracted by something else to notice. we must Fight for our rights, not just sit and complain wihen they are gone because then it is too late.
Few can be heard, but Many can not be ignored.

No no no, this would be the perfect test ground for a slashdot team to build a totally recyaled mobil, wireless, laptop that could roam on its own to search the junkyard for even more useless and usable devices to better it self. By using the Paper phone and the paper laptop as controlling devices, it could easyly just use household glue to constantly upgrade it self with even more sharmin (tolit paper) to become the biggest Mobil trash ball in the world!

-Didn''t you hear I come in six packs now!
Privacy, has long since been a dead horse. Not just on the Internet, but in our everyday lives. I can not speek for those overseas but I am will to venture, that they ar just as bad as we are. There is an entire town in England that is wired with outside CCD caramra's with police stations every few blocks to monitor everyones movement. Here in america we are tracked by our banks, supermarkets, video stores, credit cards and our phone calling habits. Almost all of these have No privacy statement at all, and most do not even know that they are gathering and analyzing our habits.
The main problem with Internet and web privacy is that the internet allows for one to visit or shop or browse a much larger base of information, thus allowing for a greater degree of data to be gathered. This is the lure of Market Makerers everywhere. When it comes to internet privacy it is up to the user to make sure that they are aware of the infomation being gathered and to protect themselves from unwanted storage.
Even with a company's Privacy Police on a web site that strickly states that the information will never be used or sold to outside vendors for any reason, we can not be assured of that. As is the case with pets.com, who recently filed for banckrupcty protecting and is try to sell of its massive customer database. Privacy groups are attempting to block this sale and hopefulyl will succed.
I beleive that in order to prevent the unwanted and often unanounced trading of our personal information that there should be steps taken to allow the user to better understand what information is being gathered. I for one would like to see that the entire cookie issue be redone. No more encryption on the cookies themselfs. Thus allowing me to actually see what EXACTLY they are storing on my system and what is being sent back to them. No more just posting that:we only store your user name and preferances" then hide the actual data in a encrypted cookie. Of course they do want to do that because it would open there infomation up for viewing by other marketers as well. But there should be a happy medium there somewhere.
We as a whole have to fight together and unifidly to help stop this and to ensure our privacy both online and off. If we just sit back and observe without doing something proactive to prevent it it will only get worse.
:) We in true new century style, I would have spelled everything correctly by o either:
1) Taking responsibility for my own thoughts and correctly the mistakes myself
2) Using one of the many spell check prorgrams available, thus fullfulling option one as well
But since these we my thoughts and not those of others, I was unsure as to how the EULA of the spellcheck program covered "using the software in such a way to produce rational and logical thoughts contrary to others, mainly the goverment". So I choose to use a link to a ready available spell check program on the internet that is Open to use, of course since M$'s dns is down and my links reside on a MS site you are stuck with the unedited, fairly comprehensiable version.:)

An even better method would not only allow restricting, much in the same thoery as Adult magizines are not available at liberys and schools, access to adult meterial at schools and librarys but would also also Better and more secure access overall. This method would e in implament a Smart Card, embeded with your name, age and login information. Equip the computers with a very inexpensive reader for the cards. In order to use the system one would have to "log in" using there access card, then depending on the "rights" that have been given to that user access would be granted. No filter, no censorship. If you are of legal age to view it, you can. If not you dont.
There are many ways to use the same ideas accross the entire Adult area (which is the true purpose of filtering) to allow access to only those who are permited to use it.

Call me crazy but I could have sworn that I alredy had one of the best filtering programs available to mankind. PARANTAL RESPONSIIBILITY!
Being a parant it is my job to teach values, morals and common decency to my kids. It is not up to there teacher, librian or goverment to raise and control my kids or myself. That is a growing problem in the world today. To many people either dont know how or choose not to raise there own kids, instead allowing others to do it for them, either directly or indirectly, as in this case through censorship. I surf porn on a daily basis, my kids surf the internet almost daily as well. The differnce is that they are responsible enough to know what is approate for them and what is not, (according to ME the parant). Yes they from time to time run accross a site that is qustionable, and for the most part they either close the window or ask either myself or my wife about the page.
I think that before we start mandating filtering programs that we should mandate Responibility amoung parants.
