The GIMP UI Redesign
·
· Score: 1
Ask yourself this: if they clone the Photoshop UI, will you switch from GIMP to, uh, Photoshop? Paying to do so? Nope, I didn't think so. There's pretty much no downside to them doing it.
The market has spoken. Given that the GIMP does nearly everything that Photoshop does, and costs nothing, but hasn't managed to displace it, then just clone the damn Photoshop UI. It's not a difficult concept.
It doesn't make "some" (i.e. one) thing faster, it makes four concurrent things faster. These are server processors. Servers do lots of things at the same time. Even on your desktop, a dual core chip is useful; you can ask stupid questions on Slashdot without slowing down encoding your goat porn home movies.
You, sir, are dumber than a retard's nutsack. The issue isn't the NDA, it's that AMD are claiming de facto editorial rights over the publications. They're not stifling all information; you will see articles, but the only ones you'll be allowed to see are positive ones. Do you get that? Once you agree to this NDA, if it turns out that the product sucks, then you're not allowed to print that it sucks, and you're not even allowed to print that you're not allowed to print that it sucks. If you don't want an empty front page, then you have to print "OMFG AMD is teh roxorzz!!!111!". Is that clear enough for you yet?
I Am With The Penny Arcade; Thompson serves a useful purpose. Whenever the media need a quote about the latest case of a sociopath going disco 'because' he played Pong as a child, they go straight to Jack and get an absolutely barking mad, howling at the moon tirade that no sane person would take seriously. If Jack vanished from the public eye, then he might be replaced with someone actually credible.
"Organic"? Can't we just leverage our synergies instead?
It is much easier to prevent an organic process from being gamed in that manner.
And when Microsoft can purchase votes at will, who is it, precisely, that you think would prevent it from being gamed? Some meta-level of benign dictators who can ignore the votes of the membership when they feel like it? Is that OK, as long as it's "organic"?
Calm down, Sparky. What would be un-Whatever would be to charge or convict them. Merely detaining them and then moving them off site while you figure out if they are who they say they are is common sense.

Trolley Dollies can arrest, try, and incarcerate me now? You wouldn't think it, wearing those heels.
That information is coming from the same people who tell you that your GBA will OMG KERASH TEH AIRPALAIN!!!!!!!
And they're generally right, because most people run Winblows.
If your preferred solution is to use stone age hardware, much as the Pilgrims must have done, then why aren't you running BSD?
Never mind Great Eastern, Barcelona might be the Itanium of chip making.

I think what the grandparent is distressed about is that they charge per core, rather than per physically discrete processor.
It is an interesting issue; what if you promised, honest Injun, to only use 3 cores of a quad-core CPU, for example?
Oh, dear God, that's simply awful. Horrible, horrible. Is there anything that we can do for your poor wife?
What law would that be?
You've been asked to sign a contract that gives your subject editorial veto rights? Can you name three other companies who have tried that?

Yup. My standard Windows install goes: 2K -> Firefox -> Irfanview -> SP4, in that order.
Sorry, I missed the part where you said what your rôle in ISO is. Can you repeat it?

"we"? What's your position in ISO?
*cough* Stockholm Syndrome *cough*.
Then I shall steal it from the intartubes forthwith. Theft is the Australian thing to do, as I understand it.
How many new laws and restrictions on liberty would it take to reassure you?

RTFA. It actually goes on to say precisely what you just said. I expect you'll get modded insightful anyway though.
No outsource to Bangalore! No outsource to Bangalore!
What I want to know is how the Goddamn hell did he get off my block list?
Bollocks, mate. If they got it, then they'd have prohibited the practice, not merely prohibited making it mandatory.
