India of course has a segment of their population that is tech-savvy, but that does not mean the rest of the country is doing well. They have about one billion mouths to feed over there and exploitation of space ought to be one of their last concerns.
That being said, they have an ocean on their border and it seems a much more worthy opportunity that would lead to being able to adequately take care of their population by exploiting that, and developing science that is marine-based, as opposed to space based.
What I'd really enjoy seeing is Pixar Licensing all the traditional Mickey Mouse era characters and seeing what they would develop as far as storylines, the character CG treatments, etc...
Take that Disney, Pixar could make brand new Mickey Mouse movies that would become as classic and timeless as Toy Story and make Billions more with the franchise than you ever could!
Where in the constitution is the levy of taxes authorized to explore other planets?
We have much greater need for financial, technological and scientific resources right here on our own planet. Half a trillion dollars to do what? If this were proposed by private enterprise, the shareholders would fire management due to the low return on investment that will be acheived from the expenditure.
Geeze and I thought I was bad. Our office sport is to try waste as much possible time of those who call to peddle their products and services to us over the phone. The only rule of the sport is that you are actually accomplishing work while you are entertaining the caller with interest.
This applies usually to long distance, copy machines, etc... but never to non-profits, no matter if we agree with their cause or not.
I think the record is 1 hour 28 minutes and 3 follow up faxes.
This is probably what China did when US Army GEN Eric Shinseki, formerly Chief of Staff of the Army, ordered the Army to wear Black Berets. China actually landed some of the contracts for producing these berets and are now tracking US soldiers as they deploy around the world.
Now, I'll have to go see this if it includes Bayonetting. As I don't know jack about retroviruses, I now have an excuse to go see 28 Days: to critique the thrust, the slash and of course, the buttstroke to the head.
Yes, one other thing - Nevada is one of the 38 states that has formed the consortium of Internet Tax sharing states. California is not one of them, primarily because if they figure out how to make Internet Sales Tax work, they don't want to have to share their much larger portion of it with the other member states. On the other hand, Nevada will have few other advantages over any other state that has Internet Taxes with the exceptions of the other advanatges it currently has, such as lower corporate formation and other fees and quality of life (at least for Northern NV).
WRONG! I live in NV and have a purely online sales business (except for about 5-10% mail order) and I'm looking at alternatives. Sure, Nevada has low corporate filing rates and no state income tax. But when the issue is attracting, and maintaining the attraction for customers, having no sales tax is a larger advantage. I think the more avantageuous thing is to offer sales without the burden of sales tax. Therefore Oregon makes great sense to me. And, I'm looking at moving from NV to OR. As our server is colo in NV, I don't know how that will all work - the sale is executed on the server inside NV, but shipped from OR (possibly in the future anyway).
And no jackass, not everyone who lives in NV eats at either McDonalds or a Casino. There are just as many selections of great eating establishments here as anywhere else.
That's nuthin. I got a fax from a company called the "Internet Support Group" with all kinds of legalese. They essentially fax over a list of alternative TLDs for domain names that I own, trying to scare me into purchasing these alternative TLD versions of my domain name "in order to protect it" from someone registering one of the other versions in the future and exerting a claim against my.com name.
If someone did not know better, they'd jump to fork over their money "just in case". Of course, someone cannot trademark property where a prior ownership of that property has already been established. This is plain scaremongering using IP arguments to close a sale. A totally bogus and reprehensible communique.
Starbucks main interest in this is merely to prevent people from sitting around their retail stores and using their computers for free. This way, they get to charge everyone for the space, inside the retail stores that they will occupy during the time they are using their computers. Of course, the cup of overpriced, high-margin, beverages made with over-roasted beans, to me should be considered fair charge for rent/use of the space.
Of course, Starbucks has gotten used to making a very, ahem - overly generous share of the profits for a beverage - what is it, something like 1200% gross margins? - so, now, they're just doing what comes natural, taking another market segment over in which they can jack us all up for the convenience of using our own property, our computers, while inside their location.
It will probably become the case that they will use some sort of technology to over-ride the ability of Personal Telco to provide free access anywhere near a Starbucks location. Then, those who want to even go near the place will be forced to pay Starbucks a damn subscription fee just to try and use what they once where able to use for free. Starbucks will, essentially, highjack the air in and near their retail locations.
So, seems to me that if everyone who was smart about this and committed to maintaining free access, they would cluster as many free access points around every Starbucks as they can.
Funny (not ha-ha) how the announcement for this did not come out until after closing arguments have already been completed for the opposing 9 states case in the MS Monopoly case. Would have been nice if they could have included an injunction against this future system as a remedy. Who wants to bet against this being another future Monopoly case example and cause for action in the future?
If MS has a patent on this, and vendors demand proof of identity by use of Palladium, then there will be a lot of people who can't ID themselves since they don't use MSOS, since Palladium won't be part of anything non-MS. For this reason alone, I don't think that Palladium has a chance.
And so, what about those of us who get on an electric powered treadmill which consumes electricity simply to use up excess calories, esentially, throwing away energy twice and then needing to shower, drink more water, waste more resources, etc....? I'm sure you can supply us with at least 200-300 words of social commentary on that. And then, when you're done wasting your energy on that, we'll all waste energy reading it. So, what's the point?
Yeah, this is how it all gets started. Those nasty small electronic gizmos will most certainly tell all their bigger, smarter brethren about who was the slave to the machine - a communications device noless. No thank you. I think I'll use batteries instead so that my phone, pda, what have you will not catch on to the fact that I can be used as a power source. The rest of you friggin idiots, you are going to doom us all to extinction. Didn't you pay attention, or where you getting popcorn during that part?
Yah, as I said: "The men who fought on the ground that day didn't give a lick about the politics that put them there. To many of them, it was the opportunity of a lifetime; to add to the history of what being a Ranger has meant throughout history. The movie skimmed the surface of it, but it can't really be well understood by those who have never been there."
I guess it is the soldiers that fight battles who decide on national policy? I guess also, that you are suffering the misperception that the interests of Dishonesty, Greed, and Evil, which you state above, are not yours? I mean, afterall, when America sends her soldiers to fight it's wars, it does so in YOUR name, and the name of all those around you.
So, the next time you enjoy your freedom to live in this country, or any other democratically ruled country, you can turn and thank a soldier, sailor or airman who keeps it that way. Or, you can just drag your fat, lazy, thankless ass back to the couch and have another beer while you watch the game.
"I will never leave a fallen comrade to fall into the hands of the enemy"
Recognizing that I volunteered as a Ranger, fully knowing the hazards of my chosen profession, I
will always endeavor to uphold the prestige, honor, and "esprit de corps" of the Ranger Regiment.
Acknowledging the fact that a Ranger is a more elite soldier who arrives at the cutting edge of
battle by land, sea, or air, I accept the fact that as a Ranger my country expects me to move farther, faster and fight harder than any other soldier.
Never shall I fail my comrades. I will always keep myself mentally alert, physically strong and
morally straight and I will shoulder more than my share of the task whatever it may be. One hundred
percent and then some.
Gallantly will I show the world that I am a specially selected and well trained soldier. My courtesy to superior officers, my neatness of dress and care for equipment shall set the example for others to follow.
Energetically will I meet the enemies of my country. I shall defeat them on the field of battle for I am better trained and will fight with all my might. Surrender is not a Ranger word. I will never leave a fallen comrade to fall into the hands of the enemy and under no circumstances will I ever embarrass
my country.
Readily will I display the intestinal fortitude required to fight on to the Ranger objective and
complete the mission, though I be the lone survivor.
The men who fought on the ground that day didn't give a lick about the politics that put them there. To many of them, it was the opportunity of a lifetime; to add to the history of what being a Ranger has meant throughout history. The movie skimmed the surface of it, but it can't really be well understood by those who have never been there. I have not read Mr. Chomsky's work, but I'm confident that his concerns where not shared by the men who were under the gun that day.
From what it looked like the movie accomplished its objective, capture the fast pace of urban combat and convey it to the audience. The lack of character development is a statement about the lack of being able to focus on anything in a fast unfolding situation. It was enough to get out alive for those who were combatants. I doubt they had time to focus on much of anything, except a narrow field of view in which an enemy might suddenly appear to take your life, or the life of the man next to you.
Oil, politics, power, corporate greed. BS.
Mission Accomplishment, Honor, the Creed.
BTW - For the Record - it's "I Will Never Leave Behind a Fallen Comrade".
The Main benefit of this, in addition to Friend or Foe ID, is in the event a US soldier/airman is a POW. This would enable the ability of our soldiers/airmen, etc... at risk of capture to ingest such a device prior to a mission, and assist in identifying location, initiating recovery, etc...
Encoding a low powered signal would be the best way to conceal the device from the enemy's reception equipment, while having more sensitive reception abilities would be the way to acquire the signal.
A potential for POW status, such as in special operations where exposure is greater, also explains the need to have it ingestible for at-risk personnel, as opposed to externally worn. Such a device would have enabled the recovery of our pilot in Mogadishu and the pilots and others who were captured during the large desert warfare exercise we had a few years back.
They were talking about human(s) in terms of more than one, not in terms of ALL HUMANS.
India of course has a segment of their population that is tech-savvy, but that does not mean the rest of the country is doing well. They have about one billion mouths to feed over there and exploitation of space ought to be one of their last concerns.

Blah Blah
"Abuse by car insurance companies able to read your car's performance?
The chance of abuse is too great..."
Gee, that's right. We should get rid of P2P technology too, because "the chance of abuse is too great..."
Great argument.

Can it selectively allow missiles to get through, say to Berkely?
This is just so later on, when everything migrates to GIG, Bush will be able to say that he, instead of Al Gore, 'invented' the Internet.
Thats due to all the bastages that 'subscribe' to early publication of slashdot, er, I mean due to all those who 'support the site'.
So now Steve Jobs needs his own TLD?
Where in the constitution is the levy of taxes authorized to explore other planets?

Time to break out the .50 dude!
